Does ANYONE know if this event is still happening? There have been numerous reports that the gun range to be used for this event is closing August 1st, and will not be reopened. There is no way to contact the Cascade Sportsman's Club except via e-mail, and they are not responding to my inquiries.
Will someone at Appleseed PLEASE confirm if this is going to happen or not? I'd to know ASAP so I can re-schedule if needed! Thank you!
This event is still a go. We heard the range is closing the second week of August after our event. I confirmed this with the Cascade Sportsman's Club president over a month ago.

The reply by billyinfinity is consistent with what we heard from the gun club. I have already sent an e-mail to the Dept. of Natural Resources for clarification. Thanks for the heads up. For now - the shoot is still on. Please stay tuned...

I have a call in to the Skamania County Engineer's office to work with them on this. Please stay tuned...

07-22-2012 Update
Things are not looking good for the event to be held at the Blue Lake Pit Range. Washington Dept. of Natural Resources told me to call Skamania County engineering. Skamania County engineering isn't returning my calls.
So we are working on plan B - hold the shoot at the same time, but at a different location. Currently we are talking with the owner of the "Woodstock Range" (located in Castle Rock, WA) to hold the event there. We need to get the paperwork filled out then we will notify the shooters of the change in venue. To get Woodstock back online we will need to have a range clean-up day before the weekend of August 4-5.
I will keep you posted as I find out more information. Thank you for your patience.

Shadowman,
If the Woodstock range is a go, and you need volunteers for clean up, let us know ASAP and I may be able to help!
Thank you for the offer, Ironbar. As things fall into place, the calls for help will be sent out.
Tentatively we might have a cleanup day this weekend (I will be available Sunday afternoon/evening) or late next week just before the shoot. Currently we are asking a friend with a tractor if they can get most of the mowing done.
Again, thanks for the offer to help. The folks who come to Appleseeds never cease to amaze me.

Here is an update. The shoot at Stevenson will be held at Stevenson as originally planned. Here is the content of an e-mail that I received yesterday from a Skamania County commissioner:
QuoteIn considering the value of your program ... we are extending the closure of the range to the 5th. This will allow you the opportunity to have your scheduled shoot.
We cannot schedule the range for your exclusive use so ... make sure you have a significant presence on site very early in the morning to guarantee the use for the day.
Please make sure that all that attend understand this will be the last day of the range being open to the public. We have not found an alternative site at this point but if we find something that will work ... I will let you know.
Thank you! Be safe!
Jim Richardson
Dist. 2 Commissioner "Skamania County"
The original letter didn't make it clear whether or not we would have access to the range Sunday so I followed up with another e-mail asking for clarification. Here is the response I received today:
QuoteThe postings for the sight show it closing on Monday the 6th so you are good for the weekend.
Have fun

Thank you, Skamania County, specifically Commissioner Jim Richardson and Public Works Director Larry Douglass, for coming through for Project Appleseed in the 11th hour.
If anyone feels inclined to send these guys a heart-felt thank you, here is their contact information:

Wade, thank you and Kim so very much for making Woodstock available as a plan B. I think there are folks in SW Washington that would still like to come out to your place, help clean up the range, and earn some rifleman patches. Just give Theophilus a ring (and give me enough lead time to promote the event) and we'll make it happen. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Note that we will be using all of the rifle range that weekend, so it will not be available for others to use.
