Title: Your LTR and number of rounds fired?
Post by: trow on June 17, 2012, 10:05:46 PM
Hey all-

I've been reading deep into the forums about which of three popular rifles to purchase as a LTR. I was curious to see what rifle you have and approximately how many rounds of ammo you've passed through? Also on a scale of 1 to 10 ( 10 being the greatest) you would rate the reliability? And if this has been covered ad nauseam then please delete this thread..

2-3k rounds through our 10-22s and I don't recall a failure of any type.  Actually I had a malfunction where the bolt release was engaging the magazine release; both were after market parts.  I swapped the mag release to another 10-22 and both continued to work.  Mostly they have been fed Wolf and Federal match ammo.

I have a 10-22 loaner with over 7,000 rounds through it. Still gets a rifleman every other 'seed or so.

I've got a Savage Arms Mark II and have put over 5,000 rounds through it still shoots 0.34 MOA at 150 yards. Not manny fokes like the bolt guns, but I think they are a hell of a ride.

Marlin 795 13,750 plus rounds and still going strong. Only modification is Vortex Diamondback 2-7X35 rimfire scope. Had some problems with the 3/8 dovetail .22 tipoff rings sliding back, so I used red lock tight on the rail and its been fine ever since. It truly is an LTR  :~ :~ .

I also have a couple 10/22's that I have no idea total round count,  purchased used.

I recommend both rifles, in my experience the Marlin needs cleaned more often, and the magazines are a little more difficult to prep. The Marlin is also cheaper, and needs less modification out of the box, and I think it is just a little more accurate than a stock 10/22. Both have poor factory sights and need either a scope, or tech-sights. I would rate both 7 out of 10    :~  .

I also have a Marlin 925 bolt action, with a Leupold VARI X I 2-7X35 installed. Got it used as well, but I like the fact I can use 795 mags. in it.
