Thanks to Alex and Buzz for a great weekend. It is always a pleasure to host a A/S, pictures and details to follow soon (as soon as I re-hydrate in the shower for a few hours). :pics:
The Morning (Saturday) started out foggy and a very heavy dew, by 9:00am it had cleared and a nice breeze started drying the grass. Four shooters braved the threat of rain and started the day off. A green Hat, a Red Hat, 2 Orange Hats and a Blue Hat made up the instructor list. As two of the four had no experience with firearms the 1:1 ratio worked very nice as those got a personal coach. We were honored with the presence of a WWII vet on the line and once we got his new rifle and scope working as a team he put those shots into nice tight groups. Lunch break was interrupted by thunderstorms/lighting so we moved under cover and waited, story time was extended to get the 3 strikes told. The weather cleared and gear was got out again for a little more work and several AQTS. Sunday two of Saturday's shooters came back and a Father and Daughter on vacation from Texas came to work on their skills(he has his rifleman patch and she is getting very close) also a local Orange Hat with his wife and son came to help and work on skills. So we had seven on the line and with the extra Hats the instructors all took turns getting on the line to stay sharp. Even though it was a small group, as with all the Appleseeds (10) I have experienced it was very good. The weather on Sunday got down right HOT and the breaks in the shade were very welcome and the Shoot Boss kept them frequent. Even though no new Riflemen were made there are several on their way. We had another WWII vet come by to watch and shoot a string on Sunday. I t is such and HONOR to get to visit and be with these people. The Vet on Saturday was 88 and the Vet on Saturday was 90 ! Talk about PERSISTENCE !
Well by my recollection it was a pleasant Iowa afternoon and a quite enjoyable shoot made more so sharing the company of Appleseed brethren. It is great to see how the message and skills being shared throughout our great nation are one and the same and the people that do so have the same love for our history and culture of freedom. I thank you for myself and my daughter for making us feel so welcome at your shoot. We look forward to coming back that way again, K Hickman :---
