Title: General Greene's Statue, Greensboro, NC - Quotes
Post by: Fred on April 07, 2012, 01:58:23 PM
There's a statue of Gen Greene in Greensboro, the nearest metropolitan area to the Ramseur home range. Naturally, the town is named for him, as within its boundaries lies the Guilford Courthouse Battleground.

There's a good quote on the statue:

"I never saw such fighting since God made men. The Americans fought like demons." - Earl Cornwallis

Thanks for sharing this Fred. I took the image and cleaned it up for sake of visibility and positioned the quote you speak of verbatim
at the base of the statue for all to read clearly. The quote actually refers to Cornwallis himself as "me", (reference to himself)  not to men or mankind.
You can see the period after "me." ( not bad for a guy that just came from the Opthamologist eh? ::)

What a splendid historical tribute to a great man.
