I am always deeply gratified when family groups come to the line, and at this event Chris, and Maritza showed up with their son, Alex, a fine lad that shows the perseverence that will serve him well throughout his life. Steve arrived with his sons, Max and Austin, two young men the instructors grew to respect as the weekend wore on. They too showed the grit of our ancestors.
We worked out the usual issues of wandering elbows, twisted slings, and dancing fingers Saturday and Sunday morning and settled into the AQT Grind Sunday afternoon, Corey, a 17 year old lad I coached personally at this event and two weeks ago at Myakka, worked through his gremlin of a dancing finger and ended up shooting an iron sight 210 at his second Appleseed. He will attend the Florida IBC in Palatka to pick up his Orange Hat.
Maritza and Chris were shooting very respectable scores in the 190 range, but couldn't quite get everything to come together in one target. Their next event will net them their Rifleman badges
Philip, a perennial favorite at Florida Appleseed events, is knocking on the door and will soon earn his badge. Well steeped in the Appleseed culture, Philip will surely don the Orange hat upon revealing his Rifleman status.
This was my first event Shootbossing after taking time off to deal with personal issues. I was well pleased to have ItsanSKS backing me up. As Saturday progressed I could feel the load coming onto my harness. It was good to be pulling in the traces again. A member of a team greater than myself.
