This video shows a ricochet from a metal target which could have had a *much* worse outcome.

something to consider before you throw some steel down range and just start shooting.
I don't think many folks are bringing the 50 out to appleseeds lol. and if they are hopefully they aren't shooting AP rounds lol. still a very cool video and a good reminder to always wear your protective gear :)
I don't think that video's real.
Couple points:
1. 50 cals are not allowed at 'seeds.
2. The general advice with steel is to hang it no closer than 100 yards, let it either be hanging or if mounted use an angle to the mount to deflect the round downward, and wear eye protection.
3. Use hardened steel over soft steel.
Steel has very good KD uses and while not as good as paper for KD instruction it is a great supplement and really gets new shooters smiling and excited. They do love that PING!
There is a delay that's hard to explain although.
I was off handing in my yard with an air rifle and shot a lighter knott stump(a pine stump once burned trapps and solidifies the sapp on very hard wood). the pellett almost liquified and landed between my toes with the sandals this was hot.
Another time I was hog hunting with a 7mm Mouser Boltie, got out aprox. 250yrds. from my Jeep when I heard something looked back and in front of the jeep twenty yards there was a 300lb.Boar standing partially in the trail,I shot the rear hip thinking I would slow it down and then track and kill.
The round went through the hip hit a lighter knott stump richocheted and shot out the head light.
At fisrt I had no Idea what had happened I hit the dirt an then five minutes later started lmao, when I realized what had happened.
Always shoot your steel targets on an angle so they ricochet nicely down into the dirt.
