Title: Scope for my Mosin...
Post by: Barbie on March 13, 2012, 12:53:17 PM
I'm looking for some input on scopes for my Mosin Nagant.

What has worked for you?  Are there any specific ones you like more than others, and why?

I don't want to "have to sell a kidney" to buy one   ;D , but I also want it to be of quality.

Thanks for your input!

I'm thinking of going with a forward mount...

One of my Mosin's carbines (I actually prefer the rifle length) had a an S&K mount that replaces part of the rear sight. Easy to install.
It had a Simmon's 2-6 pistol scope on and it worked fine. It was on my Redhawk for many years so it is plenty tough.

I sold it, but if I would have kept it, I would have gone with a Leupold pistol scope.
A used Leupy runs about what a new Simmon's cost. Burris is tough and affordable and has a ballistic plex reticle option for greater range options. However I have not used that particular model.

If it is to be your MBR, then don't scrimp on quality. A Mosin is a most cable rifle in good hands with good ammo.
I own a few and may once again scope one, so thanks for reminding me! O0

Mosins can be a solid 3MOA with factory ammo (not Mil-surp, which varies greatly).
Good luck!
