I am in the process of building a 7mm-08 on a savage model 10 action and have been looking at the load data and components for it and was wondering if anyone here is reloading for it? Any tips on reloading for this cal, where to buy components or favorite recipes for deer/targets?
..Send a PM to Imker from NY. We spoke just the other day about the 7mm-08, he may have a nice recipe for you to try......
Thanks JW but it says error whenever I try to send a PM to anyone.
Update:
I am able to type the name in and send one just not able to click on the name to send a PM.
Got it sent off to him.
I load for it. That said, I don't give out data, but can send you to other sources for data, some of the ones I use myself.
I can't tell you which load is real accurate, as I don't own a 7mm-08 myself, but I can point you in a general direction to what should be a decent load or two.
You'll want to stick to powders in the mid burning rate, such as WW 748, BLC-2, H335 and H4895 and IMR 4895. Sierra makes a nice 160 gr hollow point hunting bullet. It's a good all around bullet and pretty accurate. Match shooting, just use Sierra MatchKing bullets. Go over to Hodgdon's website for data, they're pretty good.
http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp (http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp) is the site.
I have the data books but was looking for some feedback on the 7mm-08 performance. Staying with the 120 gr ballistic tip for deer as too many recommend it over the heavier grains to ignore. i will know for certain this winter if true or not.
Best I have found on brass has been 23 bucks for 50 shells. I am using a lee collet die to size the necks as the brass has been fired from my weapon only and using the factory crimping die to set the bullet. Grouping is good at 200 with 42.5 grs of varget, thats the minimum load. I am waiting for my brother in law to come down with the chrono to see the velocity. Speculating 3000ish with 24" barrel.
Since I just got the barrel in and headspaced on the rifle I have only reloaded for the 120grs and have not had time to reload any of the berger 160's
Well, I can vouch for those 160 Sierra's.
They also make them in .30 caliber (165 gr). I've got a friend that took down a 575 lb moose with them in a .308 Win rifle, and it went down pretty quick (for a moose, they die slow).
140g nosler accubond and 42 g of varget in my rifle will shoot lights out (5 shot touching at 100yards time in time out. There are a lot of powders which shot almost as well ( imr 4895 benchmark to name a few. Remember start low and work up
After a good deal of fooling around with the weights and powders it appears 140gr barnes ttsx with 43.2 grain of H380 is the ticket thus far. Still trying a few others brands of other bullets and will work some loads up.
Thanks for the replys
