Title: AAR Starkville, MS March 3-4
Post by: hornet41 on March 06, 2012, 11:23:43 AM
The first Appleseed at Starkville, MS was held at the Starkville Gun Club. DonD, Determined451 and I met at the range Friday to prepare the target line, firing and equipment lines. Friday night there were strong storms in the area with some hail. However, Saturday morning turned off brisk, cold but sunny. We had a fine group of young Americans show up, most of which were in the Mississippi State University Shooting Sports Program.
The students were immersed in instruction and soaked it up like sponge's. All demonstrated excellent rifle skills. Over the weekend the following folks shot Rifleman scores on the AQT: Sykes, Austin, Alicia, Collins, Rome. Tyler was knocking on the door and Adam was making great progress. We had a club Officer, Mike, show up Sunday. He was given appropriate instruction and joined the line with an M&P .22. He shot a Rifleman score and enjoyed the event very much. Hopefully his positive experience will result in more Club members attending Appleseed in the future!! Our intrepid Shoot Boss, Dond , kept everything rolling on schedule. Determined 451 did a fine job working the line and instructing the shooters. I was undergoing my first stint as a Shoot Boss in Training. Hopefully I didn't step on my crank to bad!! This was a great first Appleseed at Starkville! I expect a much larger turnout for the May event as the word is spread by those who attended this shoot.

This was a great weekend with great people.  ^:)^ And a confirmation of the high quality of our younger generation. They began with typical results on the Red Coat. But the conclusion was anything but typical. Six out of eight Riflemen/woman. And many repeated this score several times, with improvements. Of the remaining two, one had a 203 and the other in the 190s. And hornet41 and Determined451 were superb. I sincerely regret not being able to be at the one coming up in May,  !@#), but let me encourage others to attend. There is a nice heated and air conditioned club house for an added incentive.
