Title: RBC Ramseur 2-12!
Post by: kDan on February 28, 2012, 08:09:55 PM
I can't imagine things could have gone any better last week at the RWVA home range in Ramseur (2-12!), North Carolina.  We totaled 23 individual shooters and by the time we were done, we had 12 new Rifleman to add to the 8 that had already made the score previously.  At least six folks qualified at KD.  We also picked up 10 IITs and a new Shoot Boss.  I can't write much now, but I've got to get this started.  We had soo much fun.  This was HISTORIC!

Thanks to ThaiFighter for surprising us and running the whole show on Sunday.  Thanks to Iron Pony for coming out and showing excellent Instructor skills.  Thanks to TominCT for helping in every way possible.  But most of all, thanks to Lawrence and Wildman!

I'll be back but here's some photos anyway.  I know the blackboard in the photos says "Target Identification" and not "detection".  The times they are a changin'.  Check with Lawrence.

Here's the gang, most of us anyway...

Then she shoots Rifleman.

She's so happy even her target's smiling!

Where to start, where to start. I can start at the beginning with 4,000 BC. And type a nice long reply. But I talked enough at the shoot and I won't put the whole forum through that. =D

All I can say is this was awesome, pure and simple.  It was wonderful to see TWO sets of Father/Son on the line. And to see old faces and many new ones. I have walked away with many new friends. The instruction I had already heard, this being like my tenth shoot. But I have walked away realizing how little I know. And how much more I know now after all the sage and old instructing  me.

The history was awesome ThaiFighter, and I echo kDan. You DID save us on Sunday.

Thank you so much Iron Pony for helping me with all my shooting issues, and I loved shooting your AK-47 . You have taught me much and I will keep all of your instruction in my mind for when I start Shoot bossing events.

Thank you TominCt ,Lawrence, Slim,Wildman, and CharlieHotel. You each taught me something new. There were many other IITs but I am having problems remembering them because they got in the dirt with us!!

Thank you Fred for listening and talking to me for over a hour when I was having instructional problems. It means a lot that you were willing to take time out of your schedule to help me along.

And last but not least, our wonderful shootboss,kDan. kDan, you were just awesome. Tramping around with a cane and keeping the RBC together, You did a wonderful job, and are high ranking on my list of favorite shoot bosses. And I really hope that your new cat is doing well. Many thanks for marking sharpie all over my targets. They loved it. Now your targets get the same treatment. Thank you so much for keeping us all in line. We all needed it. Especially Toy.

I have to say though I was ashamed at CharlieHotel and Slim. Both shoot bosses and I when I RSO'ed, I found BOTH of their rifles unsafe. Tsk Tsk. This cannot fly boys. Just can't. I expected better of you. I know we can't all be as wonderfully perfectly awesome as me but you can at least try. No jam for you two!! ~~:) ~~:) ~~:)

In honor of Daniel Morgan, we put a watermelon up at 200 yards, and I had the honor of getting first try. I hit it once with a .223 round and then we all loaded 20 rounds each and blasted the thing!!  :---  :---  :---  :---  :--- Can we say watermelon heaven?

And lets get to the Tannerite..... How awesome is it to be shooting a target and then watch it explode and throw little pieces in the air? That has GOT to be a tradition from now on.

All in all, this was a awesome Bootcamp and I am chomping at the bit to get to my next one. One question I have though.... why was EVERYONE picking on me.....you would think I had asked for it or something.... I would NEVER do anything like that!!

Oh and I just have to say: I wasn't lodging complaints against my rifle. I was defending myself. because some smart alec shoot boss decided he HAD to pick on me in the middle of me getting thrown around on a M1A. So I was lodging complaints against him.  &) &) &) &) &) &) Just wait until we meet again kDan.

I don't remember singing....

Seriously though, This was Hands down, the best event I have attended. The Ramseur crew were the most gracious of hosts. I feel like I've have met my long estranged family.
My hat is off to each and every instructor, IIT and Shoot Boss...
Special thanks to WildMan who made us feel at home and brought coffee every morning. Could not possibly express my gratitude in mere words.
Lawrence kept us steady, a true gentleman, always smiling and even in temperament.
Skeeter, what can i say but Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... I found out that I will put up with almost anything for homemade jam.... Just kidding Princess. Great shooting and great Job making IIT3!

I feel I have received something of infinite value from every soul I encountered at Ramseur...

Ramseur 2-12! Ramseur 2-12! Ramseur 2-12!   Huzzah!

TWO-TWELVE!!!!!!!!!

This RBC was AWESOME. I have to give kudos to kDan...He's been the best shoot boss I've had, and he did a wonderful job holding the line together even during problems. He made it exiting, mixed up the AQT grinding well, yet never made anyone feel like they weren't getting their time in. Hats off to you, shoot boss. You did well.  O0 O0 O0 O0

Lawrence, I have to echo publicly the thanks I expressed to you earlier at all the help you gave me. From shooting jacket to scope, you had me covered well, thanks!

ShootsLikeAGirl, Thanks for the ride and hotel and .22 and ears and..... Lets hear it for Shooting Moms!!!

IronPony, thanks for putting up with me as I struggled with my duties as a RSO... You were very patient with me; a lot more patient than I deserved!

All you guys were awesome too, you know. I really feel like I got to know you in the week we spent together. Who votes for a 2-12 reunion sometime?

I panicked for a little bit when Maggy returned my m1a to tell me that the scope was messed up, but when I got to the KD range the rifle performed juuuuuuuust fine. I actually got my KD rifleman on that rifle, so I conclude that Maggy was just terrified of the thing, and all her problems were due to operator error. Oh well, maybe she'll learn to SHOOT someday. Probably not, but maybe  >:D

I'm so glad to hear the RBCs aren't going anywhere...I honestly think that the RBCs are the BEST thing about Appleseed. You can rest assured, I WILL be coming back and I WILL be bringing friends with me.

It was nice to be out there with you all...we had a camaraderie that was very unique.

Your groups with that rifle seem to indicate otherwise. Though we shouldn't have expected better, you being a girl and all. Everyone knows girls can't shoot, so I guess we forgive you  >:D

They were just trying to catch you off guard I'm sure.  See if you can do two things at once (ie - talk, and clear the line).  Congratulations Skeeter!, you passed the test!  Gotta get up pretty early in the morning to trick this one fellas.  Better luck next time.

Btw, what is this jam of which I hear tell...?  I didn't get no jam...  love jam...

Just wait until we meet again kDan.

Hey folks, you heard it here first!  kDan is taking up Golf!  It was nice knowing you guys.  I'll be in Scotland!

I have to tell at least this one story now (more later I reckon).  When I got to Ramseur (2-12!), I hung out by the fire with CharlieHotel and the guys for a little while, but Wildman and Lawrence had held one of the cabins for me, so eventually I sloshed through the mud to my luxurious accommodations.

WoW, was I impressed by the welcome, the hospitality, respect and honor these gentleman show to visiting Shoot Bosses!  I had never really understood what was meant by Southern Hospitality before;  I mean, y'all seem to like each other well enough, but us Yanks can have a time of it down there.  But not only was there an air mattress, clean floor, coffee maker, and refrigerator, but there was a wooden box filled with tchotchkes only a Rev War Vet could admire in the proper manner.  For one, I'm a crate maker by trade, so to find this crafty wooden box on the table meant they had done their homework.  Then inside the box!  OMG, a copper cup, a pewter bowl, some home-made tools, a bone saw, a boy scout knife (freshly sharpened), and several hand towels for my hygienic maintenance!  As I went through the box, I was reminded of the geo-cache game, where one takes their hand-held gps unit and scouts hidden treasure according to coordinates posted on-line.  When you find the hidden tupperware container, you are supposed to enter your information in the little note book, then take a trinket (a matchbox car, or dinosaur eraser) and leave one (a whistle, or nifty coin).  Here was a Shoot Boss geo-cache!  Something left behind by every shoot boss that had stayed in the cabin!  Only it didn't look like anybody had taken anything.  This was good stuff, and all on the theme of American hertitage and history.  O, what Honored Secret World of enlightened mystery I had entered!  And about time!  But what would I leave in this box of the Shoot Boss Covenant?  I had brought pretty much only a backpack with me and I didn't have any 18th Century themed items, but I figured a rifle sling would not be entirely inappropriate.  I put the pewter bowl on the table and put my keys in it.  I gently folded the hand towels and arranged my house-warming items in a nifty, pleasing way.  I looked again through the tears welling in my smiling eyes and lo and behold, there was another box, this one a cardboard box full of food left behind by previous honorables.

Breakfast cereal, Chef Boyardee.  And then I saw them...  There were cookies!  Cookies!  I love cookies!  Pepperidge Farm Milanos, my favorite next to Oreos.  This was just too much.  I texted CharlieHotel to tell him of my joy.  Not only pillows on the bed, but COOKIES!!!

I floated off to sleep in the ecstacy of recognizing I had finally reached my life's goals.  I was loved by all, and had cookies too.

I woke in the morning and stepped out into the joyous welcome of the bright Carolina Sunshine, and soon met my neighbors.  The gentleman I would get to know as Jan approached me and said, "I hope you don't mind I left some things in your hut while it was empty."  I choked up for a second, "You mean the cookies?"  He said, "Yeah, and a box of my Rendez-Vous goodies."  Jan is a mountain man re-enactor and I had rifled his kit.   Just glad I hadn't touched the cookies.  I was saving them to eat in front of CharlieHotel ("mmm - shoot boss discretion")...  Instead he gets home-made Kentucky Blackberry Jam while I'm eating powdered eggs out of a zip-lock baggie with a plastic fork.

This is just a picture of some weird guy looking in the window.  They need to get a better gate.

In addition to showing us all she knows her stuff and what she's about, Magloader did double duty as nurse and personal assistant.  At Thurday's dinner at the Family Feedbag, she spent more than an hour pulling a monster two-week-old sliver from deep out of my hand, then on Friday, she single-handedly mopped and swept the mud from my cabin.   Not a light undertaking.  Yes, like she mentioned above, I was limping around with a cane on a stupid knee.  Cleaning that cabin was gonna be my nightmare.  Granted Wildman had offered to help me and he meant it, but he was busy shutting the place down.  In the end, I didn't have to do a thing except sit in a chair and keep her company - a pleasure.

Thank you, Skeeter.  I owe you big time.  Now go destroy something.

Ok, kDan, so I forgot to give you jam....I apologize. I can start crying if it will help.I guess you will have to stay here and no scotland if you want any. I have cherry  jam too. And I might even make some cookies.

And no offense, you would make a pathetic golfer, so stay in the US. Keep me on my toes.

And I had been talking the whole time mom was there. I guess you were just to caught up in the loss of your cookies to pay any attention. I will not be repeating what I said either. And thanks for the tannerite. I know where a certain shoot boss lives and I bet I can find his car too........

But honestly, I was glad I could help out after all you did for the Bootcamp. I think you even got me to shut up for ten minutes once and gave everyone some peace.... ..Put it on the calender!!And of course I cleaned your hut!!The shootboss slipping and falling whilst cleaning out his hut just wouldn't go over very well. And we had such a wonderful ending watching you and CH cram half of New York into the back of your car.....

And what is with the peanut gallery comments? I NEVER even ONCE mentioned ANYONE being the peanut gallery..I am not that cruel. I would never do something as evil as that.

And to CH. The picture with the caption of a silent moment with Magloader? I was talking then too. You will never be able to get me to stop talking, so I suggest you just don't give me your phone number. =D

I dropped the peanut gallery comment and all the rest, cuz all kidding aside, you, your mom, your brother, and that big scary guy you brought with you all turned out to be a-okay.  I wanted to make that clear.

I can say all of that with sincerity until perhaps I see one of your clog dancing videos.  Then all bets are off.

My phone number is all over this forum, but thank providence you can't seem to find it!!!  Scotland here I come.

I am going to go get my phone right now. Because see...you called me back. I love caller ID.  Better start for Scotland pretty soon kDan ma boy.

HEY!! First skeeter jokes and now homeschool jokes. And all CH can do is watch. How unfair. Although I know everyone cannot be as wonderfully charming, awesome, and perfect as me, the least you could do is try, Charlie.

But as long as homeschool jokes are around, I have PLENTY of New Yorker jokes. Like how long does it take a New Yorker to set up a tent? Answer: I don't know. It keeps falling down.

Have fun in Scotland kDan!!! I betcha I can find you out there. Just look for either a muddy hut, or a broken down tent.  ;)

Well I'll add my .02 - though I was only there for Thursday Saturday and Sunday I want to say I was so impressed by the enthusiasm and energy everyone had - that was a fantastic group of real Americans, and the camaraderie and friendship I saw gives me a lot of hope for the future of the program.

Many thanks to kDan and everyone who gave me feedback for my KD qualification!  That's one thing to cross off my bucket list.  Now for that red hat...

Skeeter, I think Kdan has already hit all your highlights  @@)

Toy, the orange hat looks good on you, as does that rifleman patch!

Thanks to IronPony for all his hard work and the carpool

Ramseur 2/12! Observations....

I LOVE NEW YORKers' !!! A special thanks to each and all for driving 14 hours each way and spending a week in the heart of Dixie with the like minded and ever faithful! Americans All!

Patriots from Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Connecticut, New York, and North Carolina in this group.

Best picture I've ever seen of Wildman. I'd recognize his "Rough-out Corcoran Jump Boots" anywhere!

Yes, 1000th of a second shutter speed will give the impression that Magloader's lips are not moving.

VICTORIA!!!! The KD line is WAITING!!!!

Kdan, our celebrity shoot boss is unquestionably the best shoot boss, photog and caption writer in the program. (This is a challenge to Huff to step up and travel to the "Home Range", where his good looks will remain unchallenged except by SLIM, right Maggie! Please bring HQ.

Tears came to my eyes as Charlie Hotel sang.....and was promoted to SB.

Tears came to my eyes as I met Slim......

Tears came to my eyes each night at dinner.....from laughing....

Tears genuinely came to my eyes as I realized that with people like this, we can save this country! They populate Appleseed in every state in this nation. God Bless Fred.

A special thanks to Jan our re enactor. Our guest cabin is now furnished with an ingenious hand made gun rack, and clothes caddy. All constructed in advance as a lasting contribution to the program. Being of advance age, he and I frequently exchanged senior marksmanship techniques. Old age and treachery will always overcome youth and vigor.

BYE MoMmmmmmm!!!!!!

M1NC, our perpetual and longest serving IIT1 (over two years?) gets a promotion. I told him his shooting career is coming to an end, it's all Appleseed from here.

Toy finally invalidated his ROC card. He had to become an instructor to continue to shoot at Ramseur. Welcome to the program old friend!

Hello MoMmmmmm!!!!! Back from Kentucky.

Best Father and Son campers I've ever seen. Great forethought and outstanding amenities! Everything but a recliner. Florida should be proud.

Frank! What's the first thing we do in prep when on the KD range?

Best of luck to Steve who leaves for Army Basic Training with outstanding marksmanship skills and a Rifleman score at KD with a Garand! He never road in the range truck. Ran all the way to score his targets. Gung Ho! Ramseur 2/12!

Girl Scout Cookies for the SB from Adam.

No, iron pony is not Amish.

Goliath promised to join the AS Supply Corps. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

A rifleman persists. On Friday evening, just before dusk with most RBC participants already on the road, Sean requests that a Red Hat (The Kid) reopen the firing line to please shoot one more AQT and fires his first rifleman score. IAO! Jan, you have a fine son!

Oh Lawrence Lawrence Lawrence......When I thought I had a friend.....you turn on me.....not you too!!! Whatever will I do? I am getting it on all sides......

And we DO all know that I am better looking and more dashing than Huff/SPQR. It's a well known fact!!! And even if the camera makes it LOOK like I was silent we all know I WAS talking. Optical disillusion.

Anyway Lawrence, it is so awesome to see you on here! And it was so great to see you at the RBC. You supplied my targets...and my rifle...and the line I ran....and the huts we stayed in...and the KD range which I really need to go back and qualify on.. and a million other things. You really made it happen. Every time I come out I am so happy to see you and give you a hug. I will be back soon I promise!

I'm so glad to hear the RBCs aren't going anywhere...I honestly think that the RBCs are the BEST thing about Appleseed.

That's what I've been saying for four years!  Appleseed events are usually two days long because that's what people can generally do.  But a week!  Now that's what I'm talkin' bout.  Of 23 shooters, we picked up 12 new Rifleman for a total of 20 on that line!  How many folks would have to wait how many more months to make that cut?  And what did we get, like 10 IIT's?  Figure two or three drop out and the rest make it to Red Hat by the time two years are up.  Them's good numbers.  And then there's the KD quallies!  RBC is the way to go.

Quote from: Docboy on February 28, 2012, 10:40:25 PM
It was nice to be out there with you all...we had a camaraderie that was very unique.

Well, there you have it don't you.  Appleseeders are folks worth getting to know, and what better way than to do that than see them in the morning before they've had their coffee, or after a week with no shower, limping around in muddy boots looking for that thing they had just a minute ago...

Docboy, it was a pleasure getting to know such a fine young man as yourself.  I will see you on the trail, perhaps right back at Ramseur.

Tears come to my eyes, Lawrence, when I recognize the earnestness and hardwork you personally put into this program.  Graciously, every so often something or someone comes along to re-inspire me with this program, and you are that.  You and I started talking about this event almost six months ago, so now it's over and what do we do?  Is it time to start talking about next year?

Hello everyone.

The Ramseur (2-12!) RBC was an incredible experience on my personal path to "gunlightenment".

As I shared with KDan and Lawrence, I grew up in NYC, afraid of guns -- because the only people that had them were "bad guys".  Then, about six years ago, while living in MA I "awoke", questioning the prevailing anti-gun rhetoric and reasoning.

I scoured state, CDC, and FBI crime reports and "discovered" that all was not as I was lead to believe.  Responsible citizen firearm ownership was not only possible but an important and uniquely American right that was under-attack using the tragic actions of fringe actors to justify curtailing liberty, freedom, and justice, in the name of collective security.

I soon moved to VA, viewing the recently overturned one-gun a month law as a goal versus a restriction. I began in earnest searching for a rational community of other like-minded people whose interest was not just in the technical aspects of firearms, but appreciated the soulfulness of its history in the way a martial arts school would be built around respect for core principles and ones personal self-development.

Coming to this RBC was that kind of event for me.

I was near tears several times listening to KDan, Thaifighter, Lawrence, Iron Pony, TominCT, magloader, and others so passionately recount history, weaving thought provoking questions about parallels we face today.  I became acutely aware of the history I took for granted when I lived in many of the Boston towns mentioned, most notably two blocks from Whittemore Park in (now) Arlington, and blocks from Powder House Square, Prospect Hill, Charleston, and other areas.  As the stories we well retold, I found myself mentally visiting these places I knew with a new appreciation and context.

I was very impressed by the humility and civility of all the Red hats, IITs, and other volunteers who operated with professionalism and comradery that set the tone for the RBC.  As with any such gathering, there wil always be people who are more challenging to deal with than others, but everything was so well-handled to be safe and respectful.

I was so moved by meeting young shooters whose skill with a rifle also reflected a maturity beyond their years.  It gave me a new sense of hope about the future.

I had never used a sling and had ordered the wrong one. Without any thought, I was quickly offered the right sling and loops so as to get started on a cold Sunday afternoon.  I had built-up two rifles for this event that shot better than 1/2 MOA from a bench, so that the only variable was my performance.

I was surprised at how effective a sling could be.  It took several days to adjust and unlearn some posture and position habits to shoot with a sling. In the end, I credit KDan's chiropractic adjustment of my support leg while in prone with getting me over the Rifleman threshold; which I believe I got three times (but I am still missing one of those targets).

Aside from my focus on rifleman skills, the community of kindred "freed minds" was refreshing.  I felt like I had found "my people".  At the beginning of the week I was hesitant about signing up to be an IIT, but by week's end it became a dutiful calling, much like Paul Rivoire and his fellow New Englanders viewed their personal and community vocations (can you tell what I started reading. :) )

Aside from my own efforts, I very much enjoying meeting and learning from others successes and struggles. KDan, iron pony, Goliath, Jonathan, Lawrence, Keaton, Sonny, Toy, Sean, the Steve's, Frank, and others were a joy to meet and learn from.

In my zeal, I will confess I did err this weekend as a new IIT.  On Saturday, I observed a young teen shooter whose body language indicated that they really would have rather preferred to be elsewhere. I spent most of the day coaching this person, helping them skip some mechanics in favor of getting them to experience actual shooting.  A fellow instructor made me aware that the individual attention was causing some jealousy amongst other attendees and placing a burden on other instructors to monitor the line.  For that I apologize, and know better for the future.

The saving grace was that by day's end I asked the young teen 3 questions:

She went from 100 yards to 200 yard and hitting a headshot on the last Red Coat. I do hope she comes back and continue what started that day.

I had to leave Sunday midday to give relief to my loving, supportive, and very pregnant wife who just needed help because I had been traveling for two weeks. my thanks to iron pony and others for their sympathy  not making my departure awkward

I now live in MD, a state in dire need of unbiasing and awakening regarding 2A issues.  I've contacted BeSwift and will try to work two on the next Annapolis Appleseeds.

Regarding after-action suggestions:
I was glad I brought a cleaning rod since I had to clear a broken chamber flag from a barrel
I was glad I brought binoculars, there were put to good use by many
I learned firing a 15+ lbs Blaser Tac 2 with a sling was not one of my brighter ideas.

When Dan called and told me about this event back in January, I didn't really know what to think. I'm guessing I sounded a bit apathetic at first, when I told him I'd go. I honestly had mixed feelings about the program, what we were trying to accomplish and how I fit into it all. I would say the best way to describe my commitment to the program at that time would be a "lost cause". After spending a week at the RBC, I would say things changed for me. My initial intentions were to head to the event and tone my shooting skills before I left for Army Basic Training in April. When I left, that was changed and my commitment to the program was renewed.

Listening to the stories that Dan, Lawrence, Fred and the other Instructors told and the way they told them was truly heartwarming. There were times when I could feel myself holding back tears, as they told the stories of April 19th and of the the men who died. I've been to my share of Appleseeds before, but this one was different and that was apparent from day one. The people you meet at these events are truly unforgettable and you are surrounded by these people for a full week. You eat with them, you laugh with them and by the end you feel a connection with them that I imagine few people in today's world have felt.

I learned a lot at this event, about myself and of others. I left with a renewed sense of hope. I know that when I leave for Ft. Benning that feeling will stay with me. I really want to thank all of the Instructors that put this event together. You guys were great and I left with more than I could ever repay you.

I have to say WhyWon, it was awesome just meeting you and talking with you.  I learned a lot from you ( like when to NOT use a sling) and it was a joy watching you work on the line with Julia, I believe it was. I cannot wait to smack into you on the trail, and I look forward to seeing WhyTwo on the line.

But I have to ask, do you think we need to ban kDan from fixing peoples legs in the middle of a course of fire? My back still hurts.....  ;D

Stevepelle, I really need to tell you how much I appreciate what you are doing for your country. I learned a lot from you( like how to sight in and shoot a watermelon first shot :) ) You were a HUGE help at KD, as I had never done it before and come-ups was killing me.  I was impressed by all that you knew and what a fantastic shot you are. You are a wonderful patriot and the Founding Fathers would be proud to know that not all of America has forgotten what they went through for the nation.

Steve Pelle91.  If there was one person I really needed to see at this event, it was you.  Practically built the whole thing around the idea of getting you there - no lie.  I'm proud to know you, and I know that the man I will spend time with a year from now will be a different one.  I am glad you were at this event, glad you're re-committed to the program, and while I'm pleased you shot so well and qualified at KD, I am not surprised.  When you get to basic, let your "M1 do the talking" and you will be selected for special attention I have no doubt.  Too bad you can't bring the Mosin.  I am sure your recruiter can take care of the speeding ticket...    @&)   Make sure somebody does...

WhyWon, I had a similar experience with firearms.  I distinctly remember sitting around my friend's loft in Brooklyn.  We all agreed that things looked bleak, and a few of them made comments about "heading for the hills".  Well, I sat there and thought...  You've got to be kidding.  How you gonna do that from Brooklyn?  Do you even have a sleeping bag?  And would that really help anything?  What are a bunch of hipster dudes and babes sitting around drinking craft beers and listening to RadioHead really gonna do?  Now I know there are other options.  I still have those friends, and now some of them know how to shoot and perhaps understand the ideas of personal responsibility a bit more - just like me.  Even got an Orange Hat on an architect, and a film editor talking about attending an AS in Texas after his screening at South By SouthWest.  But it's still like almost nobody realizes how important the rights we still have are; some rights are more important than others, and they are important to all Americans.  I am glad you're part of the program, and your testimony is apt.  We will be in touch.

Altarboy, I'm glad you made it home in one piece.  Last I saw you, you were upside down and gasping for air.   :sos:  "Man, that really wasn't cool."    :(

D-FLY - you were missed.  Maybe next time.  Remember Lawrence from 2-10?  Well, he practically ran this event.  I suspect I was there mostly to bring the New Yorkers.

BTW, that leg grab drag is classic old-school technique.  Fred did that to me, except he didn't even ask first.  It was more like, "hey what's happening?  WHERE AM I GOING?"  You see, the idea is to piss you off so much, you stop fussing the shot.  Next week, more advanced techniques, like yelling from a chair, "GET YOUR LEG UP" at whomever hears you.  Works.

Modified to say, now that I think about it...   Fred didn't pull my leg; he kicked me!

I have my own answer to that question, which you may be just about smart enough to figure out on your own... :P    I don't know, maybe not.

Update on 212 (the cat):

Those in the know, know... that CharlieHotel and the Reverend Father Mike started feeding a starving cat that struggled from the coyotes' grasp to leave tiny presents on Altarboy's pillow.  The poor kitty was so skinny!!!  She really did appear to be starving.  I thought I'd be a hero and take her home for my family.  Well, it ends up ol' 212 is NOT a very friendly kitty once you pull her away from the warmth of the campfire and stop feeding her cashews and tunafish.  She doesn't like cuddles as much as my daughter does, actually seems to prefer howling at a bookcase all night to snuggling.  She smells funny too apparently.  O well, what do I know?  I like dogs.

Anyway, in her defense, she seems to think something lives under the sink (so do I!), and if she can prove it, she's got a home.  If not, I'm sure magloader won't notice one more cat.

Can you mail cats?  poke holes in the box...  put some arrows on it.

As to the cat, I bet she doesn't like smart alec New Yorkers who can't pitch tents. And there were no coyotes. AND you aren't supposed to feed cats cashews. AND she liked snuggling with me!! Must be that weird shoot boss smell....

I PERSONALLY wouldn't mind another cat but you KNOW how many I have right now. Kinda full up. And just you try and mail her. There is always return address. Besides. You don't know where I live. HAH!

Brother CH,

I had a similar experience tonight with my wife, who teaches AP Government.  Over dinner I was telling her about the RBC stories, what I have been reading in Fischer's book, what the Colonials risked, and the difficult choices they made.  She wasn't surprised to learn that Paul Reverie's apocryphal cry "The British are coming!" was just bad history.  As we talked, she understood better where I was coming from on 2A and related issues of liberty and freedom.

I remembered something i hadn't thought of in many years; about the NYC blackout when I was 9 years old.  That night the city went dark and quiet for a few minutes and then complete anarchy broke out.   I remember walking down 9th avenue the next day seeing burned out or trashed storefronts and cars looted everywhere.  But I distinctly remember our corner grocery store was intact and unscathed. I remember the owner, a hardworking immigrant who built up and grew that little store. I went in his store and commented that we was lucky the bad people did not damage his shop.  I was scared at the time, but he said it wasn't luck as he showed me a shotgun and pistol he kept under the counter.  I ran all the way home.  Looking back, I realize this man came to this land of opportunity and created value for himself and the community and that night decided he would be damned if anyone would take away what he worked for. The story is that he sat with lanterns on with the shotgun in his lap in his storefront window and no one dared mess with him.

I told my wife that we as a nation face a similar set of imminent domestic threats. What we see happening in Greece, Italy, etc can happen here. Addressing our national debt will likely mean enacting similar "austerity measures" that will cut deeply into basic services, including police, that will affect the livelihood and safety of every community.  If that happens, would we and our community be prepared to safeguard ourselves?

My wife said that she wasn't worried because a stranger parking in front of our house moves me to condition orange, walking out the front door with my SureFire trained on the driver, prompting them to just drive away.   :)

                                                                                                                                                                            Skeeter/Magloader

Skeeter: many thanks for the kind words. I look forward to someday soon having you see WhyToo shoot as well as you do !

Steve: ditto what skeeter said.  Be safe. And if that fails, be accurate.

KDan:  I noticed an additional credit card charge for treating "shooting pains"... was that you?

What a great RBC! I had a good time shooting, but an even better time making new friends. I want to especially thank Tom in CT and the NY crew for making the trip and being ambassadors from the north! Every day it seems new horror stories come out of NJ, NY and New England and it can really make a person want to write off certain parts of the country, but you can't retreat! These guys ARE the grassroots, bringing the message of liberty to Americans in the most unlikely of places. Special thanks to these guys.
I also want to give a special thanks to Tom for loaning me his shooting mat. At the beginning I was shooting on slick carpet slightly downhill, and losing my NOPA after nearly every shot and shooting terrible scores. On his mat I shot a string of 230+ scores and my confidence rebounded! If anyone found my missing Midway USA mat from the 12/3 Mechanicsville, VA Appleseed please let me know!
I'll end with this: A week off from work, sleeping with a snoring tent mate in the cold of February, and parting with all the $ for ammo and Biscuit Company every morning wasn't easy, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat that's how good it was. I cannot recommend attending a boot camp enough.

I feel privileged to have been able to have the time to get there to meet up with a great group of shooters and instructors, to teach the meaning of why we, as a country, have been given a small chance at Liberty by the selfless dedication of our forbears. To remember them is to honor them and the best way to do so is by keeping the torch lit.

Again, it was great to meet all of you and I look forward to meeting you in the future. Tominct.

Top 10 Things I Noticed Two Weeks After an Awesome RBC

  • I regularly wake up in the prone position.
  • I turkeyneck to establish a good cheekweld with the front door before looking through peephole.
  • I've ended dangerous arguments recently by shouting "Cease Fire!" three times.
  • I now eat my breakfast cereal with a rifleman's cadence.
  • Much to the annoyance of my co-workers, I unconsciously click my pen a lot to practice my trigger squeeze.
  • I shout "Whose rifle is this?!" at neighbors' kids when I find their Nerf Guns without a chamber flag.
  • I am now highly suspect of work crews tearing up roads on bridges...
  • Mimicking me, my 4 1/2 year old son has started "calling his shots" when we play tic-tac-toe.
  • Before using a power drill recently, I closed my eyes to establish my NPOA.
  • When I type 'R-a-m-s-e-u-r', the auto-complete suggestion of '2-12 !!' appears now.

Thanks for the chuckle this morning! That's always a good way to start a day.  :)

Oh how I already miss NC. I'm heading to our state's IBC this weekend and I hope someone sets us straight there too. So nice to spend a whole week with a wonderful group of liberty-minded folks. I hope to have that opportunity again soon.

Keep up the good work, folks. It was nice meeting y'all and I hope to spend some time with you on the trail again soon.

omg - That's right, IT WAS MATT!!!  O friend, you have not escaped a dunking.

Sending out an ALL POINTS BULLETIN to Appleseed Shoot Bosses, Red Hats, IIT's, shooters, newbies, spectators, range-owners, toll collectors, 7-11 employees, and occupants of inter-planetary, most extra-ordinary craft...  north, south, east, and west...

M1NC shot a 200 at KD and did not suffer the humiliation, pride, indignity, and glorious triumph of redemption and disgrace by having an entire bottle of Poland Spring Genuine North Bridge Water dumped on his unsuspecting head.  Perhaps it's because he was suspecting it - yeah that's it - but somebody has got to get him, and if he gets got more than once, twice or fifteen times well, I guess it's my fault for missing my chance.  But we gotta be sure, cuz homey, well he gots ta get got...

GET HIMMM!!!!  Get him now!  And photog the incident post them here, but get him... dunk him.  Get him wet.  Pour a bottle of Deer Park Genuine North Bridge Water on his head when he don't know it's coming.

Those of you that don't know the drill, here it is.  If your first Rifleman score at 25m is 210, or your first KD qually score is 200 (ie - spot on the money), then as your photo is being taken for posterity, somebody is supposed to sneak up behind you with a bottle of Tap Genuine North Bridge Water, and bless you with the mercy of Rifle-giveness.  The photos can be spectacular or water under the bridge, but this honor is not to be over-looked!

It didn't.  I may not be able to tell you from docboy or huzzack...  all you cute blonde Southern teen-agers look the same to us scarred and limping old Black-Irish yanks, but I do remember checking that score.  It was definitely a 200.  I remember smiling devilishly, cuz you were the only one... and I know you remember it too.  Well, it's time to pay the price of squeaking by, my stealthy friend.

I await the photos and expect this thread to last for years, if for no other reason than for everybody to continue posting photos of M1NC getting soaked with Genuine, North, Bridge, Water.

bring a change o' clothes, O my brother.

Here's his picture, accepting his patch...  third time on this one thread...  somebody get him...  You can download the photo and increase the resolution to get a better image of the culprit.  Print some fliers!  Just look at that smug grin.  He knows he's gettin' away with suttin'.  Yet, this shall not stand, O my brothers and sisters!

We really should get some of the Mass contingent to get us a 2 liter soda bottle full of real North Bridge water and use that.

Dan, IIRC, you were at Van Etten (2008) when North Bridgewater got doused with the bottle of North Bridge water that I had in my Jeep for quite a while. It was even starting to get a little moldy.

Now, that was for a 210 @ 25 meters. Seems to me, a 200 @ KD calls for a bucket full. Or a water cooler full of ice and ice water.

CH, looks to me like you collected the water UPSTREAM of the bridge. If so, it's might not be anywhere near as potent as water which has passed UNDER THE NORTH BRIDGE.

NOTE TO ALL who have the opportunity to collect water from the North Bridge - make sure you collect the water AFTER it has passed under the bridge. It's a scientific fact: Not only does it weigh MORE, but it has little sparkles of light in it. O0

I'm sure any water near the North Bridge is good; I just don't know how good the 'upstream' stuff is, compared to the 'downstream' stuff... ;D

Nickle, you do recall correctly.  That was my first event in New York State, wearing a crisp California orange hat.  I didn't even know who you were.

You said it was NorthBridgeWater, and that became his name, but to this day, I suspect you took it from the cow pond down the side of the hill above the pasture.

Scout actually gave me some NBW that summer at Throop or Jericho, in a little vial.  It broke in my pack.  My pack is blessed now.

The bridge pic is upstream but I was careful to take the water from the downstream side.... The water was very still that day, I actually had to drop a leaf in the water and watch it drift under the bridge to see which way it was going.

When British troops crossed the Charles River, they landed in a marsh where MIT is now located.

When they landed in Somerville to hit powder house square a few months before...  they landed in our very own Senior Instructor "Crak"'s front yard.

Farther Mike...  I can only imagine what the "farther" part means...  how far does one really need to go before a wedgie becomes apocalyptic?

And what's with the cat...?  I really don't know when you put it like that.  She's still alive, got to fatten her up before she'll make a meal for even the hungriest coyote, but she's okay I guess.  She can fit in very tight spaces, and will occasionally condescend to chase my son's "bey-blades", whatever those are.  Still howling at the bookcase.  Her favorite place is the litter box.  Stays in there for days.  She smells terrible.

You want moving targets, you should stop by here.  I have a rabbit the size of a cocker spaniel, that chases the pitbull from his bowl.  Only thing meaner than that Carolina Range Cat.

According to traditional English Common Law as established in the Magna Cookie, and passed into American Jurisprudence in the Supreme Court decision case of C. Monster vs. Par T. Puper, one may read as follows:

Section 4, subsection L, paragraph 17:

"[{When in the course of Human Events, it becomes self-evident that cookies have come in the mail from Kentucky, the birthday dance is an acceptable and recognized form of gettin' jiggy wit' "it" (ie. one's bootay).}]

Now that that's established, I must, in the interest of getting in no more trouble today, return to the topic, with MORE PHOTOS!!!

Okay, it was my birthday last month, so Thanks everybody for my birthday props and recogs....  HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!?

What is this thing called "walmart"?  I actually can use more bags though.  We clean up after our dogs here in civilzation.  Those things work well as long as you double them up cuz they always have little holes in them.  Never seen them used as packing material though.  Thanks again Mags.  I'm eating peanut butter and jelly for dinner this week...  as if that's any different.

Not to jump-start this thread again, but I know some of you will appreciate this:

Looks like she's been eating well. That was the hungriest cat I'd ever seen. But still, pretty awesome that she knew the drill. "Ramseur...... meow(2-12!)"

Hey everyone,

We finally went to STORKCON* Red just over two weeks ago & we have a new addition to our family.  I was hoping for April 19th, but Jennifer was born April 23rd. But it turns out that on April 23, 1775:
QuoteIn Provincial Congress, at Watertown, April 23 1775 : Resolved, That the following Establishment of Forces now immediately to be raised for the Recovery and Preservation of our undoubted Rights and Liberties...
[Source: The State Library of Massachusetts (http://archives.lib.state.ma.us/handle/2452/43137)]
So, naturally, we will raise her to do just that.

I can already tell she'll be an awesome riflemen; she already does an awesome floppy turkey-neck and breathes with a serene cadence.

Okay folks. I hope you're all doing well and that I'll see you on the trail again soon.

Yawn,

Y1

* STORKCON = Stork Condition, it's like the DHS threat level, except much scarier if you're the pregnant mom.

Huzzah! Big congrats! ^:)^

So does that make her Why Naught or Why Two?

(Thinking it over... I guess your wife is now why naught!)

Giant Congratulations dear friend! Best wishes to you and your growing family.

I know there is already a young Mr. "Why Two", so I love Slim's suggestion for "Why Naught". He's a genius!

Hope to see you again soon somewhere on the trail....

Oh I am so embarressed. I only just found this. Don't worry though, I gave myself a good swift kick.

She is beautiful, WhyWon. I am so happy for you and your family! And I agree with the name suggestion wholeheartedly. I bet she is going to be the spunkiest gal Appleseed has ever seen.  :)

RAMSEUR !!  2-12!!

(is this thing still on... ?)

It's been almost a year since Ramseur (2-12!) and I miss the RBC experience and all the great people I met.

Especially in light of recent unfortunate events, it seems our mission is that much more important to "awaken" our fellow citizens.

On the positive side, I've had a lot of fun assembling several 10/22's in the past year, including from 80PCR machined receivers.  I've also discovered more pro-2A Marylanders than I knew existed and have had fun working the Annapolis Appleseeds.

In other news, my little girl is 9 months old with 3 teeth already...
My son (a/k/a WhyToo) turns six this summer, and once school is out, I'll take him to an Appleseed.
Santa recently got him nerf guns. Last week he brought home from school a picture that drew and wrote about playing with them.

Speaking of which (not counting prenatals), what is the youngest age someone made Rifleman?

In light of recent events and hard-times, I wish everyone Strength & Courage for 2013.

Be well, be safe, & if that fails - be accurate.
