A Rifleman's Greatest honor comes form the passing of skills, knowledge and heritage of obligation to those who choose to further the cause!
I am honored to have had the opportunity to share a little Heritage and Marksmanship with the awakening folks of the New Deal and Lubbock area of Texas thiss weekend at the New Da=eal Police Deptartment's Shooting Range.
The weather forecast was bleak but Mother Nature was relatively gentle with us.
Saturday started with 17 lbs of mud sticking to our boots with temperatures that refused to afford us warmth. Everyone persisted, adapted and overcame the elements, yet no one achieved the ellusive Rifleman's score.
Sunday dawned with the hope of a better day. Only a few braved the elements to battle the AQT.
After reviewing the essentials a first time shooter broke the barrier with a score greater that 220.
Amber B was our first Rifleman(Riflewoman) of the event.
She was honored to receive the first Patch and a Shoot Like A Girl (If you Can) Hat. :---
The AQT's rolled on and on the next to the last AQT Greg P of the New Deal Police Dept blew
230 points worth of holes into his AQT. This being Greg's 2nd Appleseed event he was invited to join the ranks of our Instructor Cadre and accepted the responsibilities of the Orange Hat IIT. :~ :~ :~
It is my distinct pleasure to have served the fine folks of this area and I am looking forward to serving Y'all again. ~~:) ~~:) ~~:)
"...till we meet again..." HappyTrails....Jerry
PS: Somebody post some pic's, as I forgot my camera!
It was a great shoot with great folks. It was fun seeing two of Texas finest get their Rifleman (woman) patches. Good job Greg and Amber, way to go. Thanks Greg for taking a hat, you'll be a fine addition to Appleseed! Along with Texas dust last shoot, I brought home some mud for my collection! :)...O.L.
Our first Rifleman actually turned out to be a Riflewoman! ..:..
After running her first Redcoat, 100%, Amber scored Rifleman on her first AQT. ^:)^ This was her first Appleseed and first at firing a rifle in years (I think she's not telling us everything ;)) Looking forward to seeing more of Amber.

Hopefully, we'll get some more pics up.
Thanks for the great instruction guys! Also, thank you for the kind words. I had a great time, and maybe I've found some calling in the world of rifles. I really have only shot a rifle once in the past 15-20 years and that one time was 5 years ago. Maybe I just got lucky. :) But, I have had some handgun training, so maybe it rubbed off? This was a lot of fun and I hope more ladies are up for the challenge. I look forward to doing it again when I get the chance. ...plus, great hat. :cool2:
I had a great time at my first Appleseed as an IIT! The weather was nice, albeit a bit chilly in the mornings, and the people, both students and instructors, were awesome! I was proud of the improvements that all of the students made, and especially proud of Amber and Greg for earning their Rifleman patch! Thanks again to Jerry and OL, I have learned a lot from both of you.
I will post some pictures this evening when I get home from work.
Hey David, if you got pics to post please feel free to add them to the facebook page. All the rest of you folks are welcome to join us on FB as well: http://www.facebook.com/appleseedtexas
Here are some pictures.
A few more.
Whoo hooo! Congratulations to our new Rifleman and Riflewoman! Way to get off the couch! :) Sure wish I could have been there, but very happy it was such a successful shoot. I will have to admit that I'm not sorry I missed the cold, shivering with a sore shoulder just ain't no fun, lol.
