Just saw this advertized on Brownell's website:
Nodak Spud rear sight rail for 10/22 (http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=14394/GunTechdetail/Ruger_Rear_Sight_Rail?sp_rid=MjM3MDQyNTEwMTUS1&sp_mid=3799869)
Anybody try or see one yet?
Looks to be about $110 for front and rear combo. :o
It is another interesting option although perhaps not inherently better for everyone. It is significantly more money and not necessary for those who have no intention of adding another optic in addition to aperture sights.
Diversity in products is good for everyone as it indicates a healthy market.
It looks like they have several products for those who wish to enhance their 10/22 including a 20MOA rail for shooting long distance with optics.

Now that Tech-Sights has fixed the front sight problem , the Tech-sight is cheaper and does the same thing. Learn to shoot with iron sights first.

I like the fact that the aftermarket iron sights the OP shows us don't keep you from mounting a scope
in addition, whether it's for primary or backup use. If you shoot with a scope, you should have irons available if the scope breaks; scopes also make target ID easier and exact. The tech-sights don't leave you that option, not having an integral rail.
I might be reading it wrong but it says all those nice add-ons are "excusivley" for their 10/22 receiver (NDS-22) not the standard factory ruger receiver, ie you can't slap these on a factory ruger without first replacing the receiver.... ("no hump, flat top").
Read carefully before ordering....
A look at the Nodak Spud website says:
QuoteNDS-26 Rear Sight
A version of the above rail/sight combo designed to fit factory RugerĀ® receivers
QuoteNDS-25 Rear Sight
Made to fit our NDS-22 receivers exclusively.
I also see this:!

QuoteAn "Appleseed" training rifle built on the NDS-22, featuring the NDS-37 and new NDS-23
This quoted right off the website.
The rifle in the picture uses their receiver and this "exclusive" rear sight, NDS-37:

Still nice to have options and I like the rail look, and 4 attachment screws.
Also nice they mention "Appleseed" directly.
Looks like a great product.. I'm penciling these sights in to try this on my next 10/22 LTR build.... BeSwift
Go to the Brownell's website. They have a video about this new sight.
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=14394/GunTechdetail/Ruger_Rear_Sight_Rail?sp_rid=MjM3MDQzNjQ5MDQS1&sp_mid=3799869
I don't work for either company, just happened to get an e-mail from Brownell's with some sales stuff in it and the link to this video was in it.
Would like to mention that Tech Sights has been a solid supporter of Appleseed.
My last order from them even included the Appleseed LTR Build Flyer. see attached.
A quick Google revealed that the NDS-26 model will fit a standard 10/22 receiver.

But at almost twice the price of standard Tech sights, it would probably be used by folks building custom rifles rather LTR's. Picture them on top of a 10/22 M1 Style Carbine build using the following stock.

Whichever one you choose have fun and get it to the range.
:~ :~
I have the NDS 26 and the NDS 23 I like them, but to each their own the only draw back I seen was the nylon tipped screws on the NDS 23. I centered the front sight and drilled small recesses in the barrel to make sure it would not move once the screws were installed I put a little locktite (the blue) not the red on the screws and tightened them up it's solid like a rock.
There are 4 holes on a receiver? Mine only have 2 holes.

All of mine have 4 holes
I guess the Tech Sights just mount to the rear two holes then.

That is correct
The nodak spud guys have shot an Appleseed and do talk it up.
The only problem with these sights is that they sit up too high. Same with Tech Sights. In my experience you still have to raise the comb of the stock to get a good sight picture through them.
FYI - Brownells is out of stock on these sights. I ordered 2 of the S-26 rear units directly from Nodak at $65 each (plus shipping) and they are enroute.

NDS appeared to be the cheaper option anyway....

Yep, but everyones geometry is different, I find Tech Sights to be perfect and stock 10-22 sights to be too low...O.L.
thanks for this information. I'm going to give these a try for back up on my target rifle. I like the front sight vs the tech sight for .920 barrels.
Either way it's good to see competition between companies it breeds better products and prices imo :)
Neat!
... I still want an M1/M14 style sight though. With a real drum on each side. :(
Hrm... come to think of it, I bet a single block with the "ears" could be milled to fit the 10/22, and just accept USGI sight parts. That'd rock. :)
I bought one off the M14 receiver rear halves a few years ago at a gun show (you know, the ones that jerk from Arkansas had chopped up and sold for scrap). The idea, which I've never worked through/completed yet, was to grind/cut out the inside of it enough to epoxy it over the rear of my 10/22 receiver (with the rear sight parts installed on it.)
I'll get around to it someday.

I would assume that you are using a factory "short" stock. With an aftermarket stock such as Butler Creek or Hogue, the comb is where it belongs with aftermarket sights or optics.

I have the factory plastic stock with a 1" slip over butt to lengthen it for these knuckle dragging arms. Close your eyes, get your cheek weld, the Tech Sights are right there. With a scope and lowest rings I have to raise the comb.
I like the look of the Nodak, I'll keep them in mind the next time I put one together. Using all 4 screws it should be more solid but haven't had any issues with the Tech Sights shaking loose........O.L.

I have used the front base from a 2 piece steel scope base set on the front 2 screws for mounting a Holo Sight in front of the tech sights for something different without removing the tech sights.
Update, I had a spare Tech Sight front that I mounted along with a Nodak Spud rear on an LTR that I just cobbled up. I didn't get to do sight-in until this afternoon and found that they are barely compatible. Even with the extra-tall Tech Sight front post, it had to be screwed nearly all the way up to the point of just hanging onto the detent to bring the POI in at 25 meters. Oh well, I was hoping they would "mix and match" but it looks like Tech Sights and Nodak Spuds require to be installed as sets. I had hoped to co-witness this sight with a micro red dot, but still want BUIS, so I'll have to order a NS front.
