Title: Baffled by bolt in new CZ452
Post by: floydf on November 14, 2011, 09:51:25 PM
I picked up a new CZ452 this afternoon, and am so far completely baffled by the bolt, the safety, and the trigger.

(The book that comes with the rifle is a little sparse!)

I can install the bolt by holding the trigger back, but the bolt won't close unless I am hold the trigger back, and the safety won't engage, and the only thing the trigger seems to do is to allow the bolt to close, or to be installed.

Any hints about what I am missing or doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I bought this over the Internet, obviously thinking: What Could Go Wrong?

Thanks!

Floyd

Floyd, I'm getting my CZ 452 out to see if I can see what you're talking about! ;)

Yes, you both remove and re-install the bolt by holding the trigger to the rear.  But are you saying that once the bolt is installed, you can't close it unless the trigger is being pulled??!!!  I seriously doubt that is the case, and I don't even know how such a thing could happen.

As for the safety, it cannot be engaged unless the bolt is closed with the firing pin cocked.  It won't engage after you have squeezed the trigger to release the firing pin.  It is designed to be used out in the field when you want to walk around with a loaded chamber, so all you have to do in order to shoot is to flick the safety back.

Hope this helps.  If worse comes to worse I can take a look at it at the December shoot in Afton.

I found the problem.  Posted on rimfire central, and one reply said it probably was some sort of burr or something, so adding a little muscle solved it.

There is not a lot of information out there about this rifle, and the book is sparse.

So far I really like this rifle a lot.  This is a great dry fire platform. And it looks like I will be able to get some serious shooting done this weekend out on the "farm".

Glad you got your 452 running. I have the one with the European type stock with the right ammo it is the most accurate .22 I have ever owned. I once shot a perfect score in prone at a 50 yard rim fire match.  Naturally it is my go to squirrel rifle.

My 452FS in .22WMR was my path to Rifleman.  Having a smooth action accurate rifle is a plus when running a boltie.  It does not hurt that it is very pretty to look at either.  I owned it just long enough to get the scope "mostly on target" before my first Appleseed.  Though much ignored in favor of centerfire these days, I believe it to be my favorite rifle.  I still want to push it out to KD but expect I will need to install a +20MOA rail first.

We had a guy shoot Rifleman with a CZ 452 at Freeman Township, Maine. He was shooting 200 or 205 tops until I pointed out to him that there was no need to break his cheek weld between shots. That bolt was not going to come back and bite him. It's a short stroke bolt.

He dry fired a few shots to try it. Surprise! The bolt did not hit him on the cheek. The next AQT was about a 220. I don't remember the exact score. He was a happy shooter.
