Now that I'm starting to get the hang of **using** my rifle, I'm starting to notice where it doesn't fit me :-\
Mainly in that the butt is too long (pushing my support hand into my trigger guard) and that the comb drop is too low once I added a scope. I'm having to hold my head up instead of getting a good cheek weld.
I probably should have bought a youth model (I'm a slight, 5'2" woman), but at the time I didn't know better. So now I'm wondering, can I just swap out the standard composite stock for a Youth model stock? Will that help? Get an aftermarket stock? There are SO many options out there that I am completely overwhelmed. Someone please point me in the right direction!
HP,
One size does not fit all. And getting the right fit on a rifle will make a big difference in your shooting when you are not fighting the Rifles ergonomics.
I have the other problem with 37 inch sleeves. So adapting, and improvising are part of getting a new rifle to fit.
Fixing the comb drop is straight forward. For the short term. Pick up a roll of self-adherent bandaging tape from your local pharmacy. http://www.drugstore.com/nexcare-self-adhering-athletic-wrap-5-yds-tan/qxp55274?catid=184301 (http://www.drugstore.com/nexcare-self-adhering-athletic-wrap-5-yds-tan/qxp55274?catid=184301) Or vet wrap if you live in the country. And experiment with building up the comb height. You can use sponges, pieces of pool noodles, old mouse pads you get the idea. You want a clear image from side to side in the scope with. No dark circles. I found a medium sized wax applicator sponge at Walmart worked for me. For longer term solutions you can add a Kydex Check rest.http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Universal_Kydex_Rifle_Cheek_Rest_p/dip13095.htm?utm_source=google+product&utm_medium=versafeed&utm_term=dip13095&utm_campaign=sporting+goods+outdoor+recreation+hunting&utm_content=dip+universal+kydex+rifle+cheek+rest+13095&v_traceback=c1010_0615_f1010_0624&Click=4368 (http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Universal_Kydex_Rifle_Cheek_Rest_p/dip13095.htm?utm_source=google+product&utm_medium=versafeed&utm_term=dip13095&utm_campaign=sporting+goods+outdoor+recreation+hunting&utm_content=dip+universal+kydex+rifle+cheek+rest+13095&v_traceback=c1010_0615_f1010_0624&Click=4368)
As to the stock.
You need to determine your length of pull or LOP. Just a fancy gun term for how long of a stock you need.
Here is a good link to calculate your needed lop. http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f18/how-measure-your-length-pull-5551/ (http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f18/how-measure-your-length-pull-5551/)
The Savage mark II action will fit in many stocks. It will also fit in stocks for the Savage Model 93. You might be able to order a replacement youth stock from Savage. Be sure to check the length. Or you can find a used wooden one and cut to fit.

Our family has had great success with the Accu-Riser cheek peice. Until you settle on the length of you stock, it is moveable. I found them here: http://www.accu-riser.com/categories/Accu%252dRiser-Cheek-Pads-and-Comb-Raisers/ and like them enough I have them of 7 rifles in one version or another.
Measured my LOP... 12 inches. I also discovered that the butt stock of my deer rifle (youth) and my .22 (adult) are almost exactly the same length. So I guess the youth stock won't solve the problem after all.
The LOP on a standard size MkII is 13.5", on the youth model it is 12.5". There's a chance you're centerfire youth rifle has a 13.5" LOP. I shoot a Savage MkII BV and my wife shoots a MkII GLY. There is a definite difference in LOP on them. If you have a hard time finding a youth stock you can always chop your own, or have a woodworking friend do it for you.
Thanks for the info! I will look around and see if I can find a Savage youth stock. If I can't I'll at least have the LOP as a number to look for.
