What a change from the August Heat. We only got up to a high of 97 deg today. The big difference was the sleeping weather. Friday night near 50, Saturday night near 62.
19 shooters Saturday, 16 shooters Sunday.
One Rifleman with 6 Qualifying scores: 239 on his first AQT and 241 on his last AQT. Oh, that was Master Chief who also took the Orange Hat.
Instructors were Shot, Lonnie, Wolf, M14NG, Texas Rifleman, olfart.
M14NG, Wolf, Texas Rifleman each earned their Red Hat, and I do mean earned, they were busy all weekend.
Shooters showed marked improvement.
Pics up soon.
Goodnight all.
POP
And, as usual, a great time was had by all! Thanks to POP for a great job of Shoot Bossing, and all the other IITs for their hard work. Congrats to the new Red Hats and Orange Hat! Thanks again to our hosts, the Harrisons, for the use of their ranch!
The heat was not nearly so oppressive as it was in August, but still a little on the warm side. Shooters persevered despite the discomfort, and all shooters showed marked improvements. We had several family groups, including a family of five from the Dallas area. It's great to see families participating in outdoor activities!

Congrats to the new Red Hats and to Zach for the patch and taking up the Orange Hat. Wish I could've participated and put a hole in that OH. Way to go guys! Pop, looks like another outstanding Appleseed!
Wow! Looks like an awesome weekend again over in Atlanta.
Congratulations to the new Red Hats! and Texas Rifleman, that's pretty darn cool passing your orange hat down to your son. I know you've got to be proud. I'm sorry I had to miss it.
yes it was a great AS .it seems that after every AS i find my self saying the best one yet ,same as this time BEST ONE YET. what made it great was that there was lots of students a good number of instructors and thanks to pop hours and hours and hours till 2 am of never ending pounding of pc questions thanks pop see all soon.
Hey everyone! First post here
I had a such a great time at my first Appleseed event. I've never had so much fun while learning so much about shooting.
While I've been around shooting my whole life, I've really never spent very much time behind a rifle at all. I owe my consistent scores to the wonderful instruction I received this weekend. The techniques taught absolutely are fail-proof if you implement them every time!
Thanks again to all the instructors and to everyone else I met for a great weekend.
Can't wait for the next event!
Great things are happening in Texas. Congratulations Wolf, Texas Rifleman and M14NG for promoting to red hats. Well done! ^:)^
Thanks, Master_Chief, for stepping up and taking an orange hat. I hope you have a great Appleseed experience as you grow as an IIT and then your hat color changes to red also.

Outstanding!!
Man, that does sound like a really good shoot. I sure miss seeing all you guys. I'm sure we'll meet again on the trail someday soon.
Congrats to all our new Red Hats, the new Orange Hat, the shooters, and all the Instructors for making it such a good weekend.
And thanks Big Joe and Little Joe for the chance to put all this on at yall's place.
That's still hope for this country after all.
Congrats to all of our new Red Hats. You have earned them. I guess more things happen when the temps drop down out of the 100s.
Glad to see that 'old' Orange Hat was so quickly put to use.
I hope to see all of you down the road shortly.

After we closed the AS, I had all our shooters send a volley, David on the M1, me on the M1A and Little Joe Harrison (property/range owner) on his 50 BMG, and we retired my OH. Awsome :---

David, POP and I, thanks so much POP
Congratulations to the new red hats! Texas Rifleman and M14NG - always good to see those I've worked a line with doing so well. Looks like a another great 'seed in Texas!
Great event.
Nice weather, perfect Friday night (my truck said 50 degrees about 8am Sat morning) but then warmed up Sat and stayed warm/hot thru Sunday.
Had 19 shooters on the line Sat morning which is the most I have seen at this shoot. Some of the shooters came with teachable attitudes (one really comes to mind :) - he made Rifleman) but we had a few that showed up who "already knew how to shoot". Anyway we taught and worked with everyone as best we could. Some took the instruction, some did not. We save who we can, they can't all be reached however.
Especially enjoyed seeing a gentleman named Mark show up with a real Redcoat outfit and a flintlock muzzleloader. He put on a demonstration for us.
His hand built flintlock was a thing of beauty and as I hoisted it to my shoulder I couldn't help but notice that it fit me like a glove. This Rifle was some kind of nice.
Would love to drop the hammer on a big Whitetail Buck with that thing......but I digress.
Had 16 shooters show back up Sunday to endure the warm Texas sun.
I believe all the shooters showed marked improvement from where they started.
Had a new shooter named Elizabeth that had never fired a rifle before shoot a 160 something target which I thought was super. Her husband Michael managed to
get some fine shots on target as well. I believe they will join us again.
Was proud to see Zach (Master Chief) take my old orange hat. It certainly has a lot of miles on it and has made a lot of good friends in the Appleseed program.
(should be a picture somewhere of Scout giving me the same Orange Hat)
Other than pounding the 4 safety rules into Zach's head on the way down I didn't tell him much about the program. He is a young man and I wanted to see
if the instruction would take and get his honest opinion of the program, without my slant on it.
I was really impressed by his shooting and his ability to learn what was taught and when some shots were a little off he instinctively knew what he had done to cause the error.
I have never seen ANYONE shoot 6 AQT's and score expert on everyone. Certainly made me a proud Dad and him taking the Orange hat makes me prouder still.
As far as the Red Hat promotions. Congrats to Criss/M14NG and Thomas/Wolf. As time goes by I certainly understand more and more what it means to be in the company
of these instructors/Rifleman. I do not consider myself worthy to be in there ranks ........ Those Red Hats are hard to get and for me it was infinitely harder to get
than the patch.
A million thanks to Pop for putting up with me and coaching me along all these years. That last PC that had us up to 2am was a real butt kicker.
(A Rifleman persists....)
The same amount of thanks to John Spann, a man who understands what it is to be an American. A real American, not just someone taking up space in our country.
Thanks again to the Harrisons. Without their help this event would not have been possible. A finer family cannot be found anywhere, I can guarantee you that.
Thanks to Alma and her group for cooking us burgers both days. (Ya'll saved us)
I would like to ask for those who believe to keep Little Joes son lifted up in prayer. He served his country in Afganistan with distinction and has now come back with wounds.
Some that are healing and some that will take time and the Good Lord above to heal. Please pray for him. His name is Daniel.
Thanks to all the shooters as well. I didn't meet everyone of you but I hope to see each and every one of you on the trail again sometime soon.
Dry Fire, Dry Fire, Dry Fire
See ya'll on the front lines ......
Dave
Thanks Amy ! :)
I need to add that 'olfart' passed his Full Instructor PC this afternoon.
Because John and his wife Dena invited friends from Dallas for the Appleseed weekend, John could not attend the PC exams held Saturday night until 0200 Sunday morning. We met today to finish the few remaining items. I am proud to have worked with John this past year and a half. His enthusiasm, attention to detail, and dedication to the mission are major drivers in the establishment and maintenance of the Range here in Atlanta, Texas.
John, we welcome you as a Texas Red Hat and look forward to working many more events with you.
Sorry, no pics. John did get his Red Hat which he will proudly wear at his next event.
Congrats to everyone. This has to be a record for the most RHs earned in a single event. This shoot has the smell of POP all over it. Great work!
Congratulations to all our Texas Red Hat Instructors! O0
That's the most Red Hat's I've heard of from one event.
Keep up the good work!!!! :--- :--- :--- :---

Man, that has to be the biggest AK I've seen.
Congrats!
I questioned Pop on the number of RH's at a single event. I believe he stated the Waterman 300 shoot held the record.
Of course right :~
