Another weekend with Appleseed. I say it every time, but there are few places I would rather be and few people I would rather spend my time with. This weekend was no exception and I suspect many of the instructors and shooters shared my sentiments about our time together.
From the first redcoats, I knew we had a good bunch of shooters, based on the scores were were seeing. Definitely an above-average group. The events of the rest of the weekend would prove me right. By the end of the weekend, the majority of shooters had increased their effective range by 200 yards. Not too bad for two days of work.
Sunday brought us one of those memorable moments at Appleseed where the instructor ranks were expanded. Robert (Psych Doc) accepted the Orange Hat of Destiny and joined the ranks of the IE group. Congratulations Doc!
To all the attendees: please chime in here and let us know what you thought about the weekend. Please feel free to post pictures as well.
Congratulations on taking the orange hat, Robert. You are an outstanding marksman and have a servant's heart. The So Cal Appleseed program will benefit from your skills and willingness to serve.
Thanks to the Appleseed instructors for a great weekend (RocketMan, Freeman, 22calgal, and others). Well done. Thank you 22calgal for talking with my sister who tagged along with me. I hope she follows through and takes in the upcoming Ladyseed in Glen Helen. I was hoping she would shoot last weekend, but she just wanted to check things out first.

Great shoot this past weekend!
With Shoot Boss, Freeman, at the helm and Rocket Man and 22calgal filling out the instructor crew, as well as cameo appearances by KoolAid, Justin and Ian (whose forum handle I did not catch) we sailed through the weekend with great quality instruction in both marksmanship and history. Especially memorable for me was Ian's dramatic telling of the Hezekiah Wyman story in first person.
My fellow shooters, both young and not so young, were no less impressive. They showed their meddle with their dedication to improvement in tough conditions featuring relentless sun, oven-like heat and gusting wind on our uncovered range. For pigment-challenged shooters like me, it was SPF 50 and longsleeves all weekend in 100+ temps. In spite of the conditions, I improved my fundamentals, made some great connections with other shooters, and generally had a grand time.
After numerous rounds of squares and AQT's, we bold shooters displayed our skills by saving the world from an invasion of diabolical sandwich cookies and definitely had the Redcoats on the run by Sunday evening. Being offered the Orange Hat was the icing on the cake. Thanks to all, and I hope to see you at another shoot soon!
