Slippery Rock, Pa 28-29 May 2011
The Slippery Rock Sportsman Club is an Outstanding Host, They provided lunch both days, and have a Very supportive staff, with Shawn and his family and other club members making our stay a comfortable experience,,,
This was just an absolute beautiful weekend for Appleseeding,,
We had on our line 6 Dedicated Americans,,, Enduring the heat, (hot for this time of year,,,)
And a Top notch instructor cadre consisting of The PA State Coordinator for Project Appleseed; Chainsaw (Tom)
EZ3 (LEE) from PA as well
wvmmfalcon (Jeff) from WV
It was a very productive weekend,, We had Gary and Tanya from the Pittsburg area that had attended the NRA convention join us, and did an outstanding job,, improving all weekend long, Hope you can join us again on the line,,,
With Evelyn (EZ3's wife) doing a fine job all weekend long, until her rifle had a malfunction on the last few targets of the weekend, I am sure she will be back, it was great to have you with us, she is also responsible for opening up the Beaver Falls, PA range for Appleseed,,, Outstanding Job!!!
To round out the line was HillBilly, his son Steve, with Steve's shooting buddy and good friend Brian,,,
All very attentive shooters with a great desire to learn,, and learned they did,, HillBilly scoring a respective 215 on the last AQT target of the weekend,,, congratulations HillBilly, who is also a competitive shooter as well in High Power,,,
Steve and Brian did an outstanding job as well, and Brian with a boltgun to boot was scoring in the sharphooter level,, Both of these young men will be seen again on the shooting line in the near future I am sure,,,
Just an extremely fine group of Americans that got up off the couch to hear the story of our great country and enjoy the freedoms that our forefathers gave their All to provide us,,,
Providing we keep doing what we are suppose to do, Teach, Teach, Teach Our Posterity, the importance to carry on the traditions that keeps our country free,,,
A letter was presented to me from a little girl named Helena,, that was addressed to The Military, (she and her parents are club members of The Slippery Rock Sportsman Club and who helped with all the accommodations) upon reading the letter it was hard to keep the old eyes from leaking,,, Here in Pennsylvania, is just a wonderful slice of American Patriotism that is hard to beat and so inviting,,, This part of the country is rich in what this country was founded on,,, If you have a chance to come here, please do not pass it up,, I will be back here sure,,,
I will have pictures up in a few days, when I get home
Again,,, Thank you so much for letting me be apart of your weekend,,,
sgtrock aka Steve Stoner, NY
Thank YOU, Sgtrock, for making that looong drive down to run the shoot. You too, Chainsaw, your drive wasn't much shorter. Wvmmfalcon, it is always good to see you. Hope you will all return as often as your schedules permit.
Slippery Rock Sportsman's Club is a great facility with great people. We're lucky to have them hosting Project Appleseed in western PA.
Ev has been bitten by the Appleseed bug. We'll see her on the line again, soon. Though not yet a Rifleman, she has the trait of PERSISTENCE in abundance (sometimes too much, from a spouse's perspective). She commented on the quality of the people in the program (I think she meant US, instructors) and the camaraderie that developed between the students over the weekend.

It was a beautiful weekend for Appleseeding in western PA. Wish I could have been there Sunday to see "Hillbilly" earn his patch.
Well done everyone. Congrats Hill Billy! I am 99% sure that Ev would have got the patch and cleaned the last redcoat except for the optic issue that moved all of her very small groups exactly 2" North East of where they should have been.
It was a pleasure meeting all of you; Greg, Tanya, Ev, Steve, Brian, & Carmen.
What a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend.
I always learn something new on an Appleseed weekend and this time was no different.
The definition of a mupeer: Semi derogatory term for someone from Pittsburgh.
Used in a sentence: Those mupeers don't tip worth a dang.
Derived from: "I am up here"
As in: "Mupeer from Pittsburgh."
Almost forgot...
This might be an Appleseed first. The local Red Bull promotions expert thought that our event would be a good one to promote at. Yes, the RedBullmobile and young ladies made an appearance to distribute free product.
A fast thinking club member headed them off before they became a distraction. Thanks Shawn.
Red Bull + Rifleman's Cadence = Rapid, Rapid Fire :~
Just so the rest of the country doesn't get misinformation. Correct pronunciation for "Mupeer from Pittsburgh" is "mupeer from Pixburg" or "mupeer from da 'Burg". It's a 'Burg thing.
;D
You are most welcome Krisker, This shoot was well worth the trip, one that I will most likely do again,,,
Here are some more pictures of the shoot, and the most patriotic little girl I have met to this day, her name is Helena, along with her proud parents,,, followed by the The Letter to the Military that she wrote,,,

..Strength & Honor...................Josey Wales...................
Great job to all involved that looks like it was a great shoot to have been involved with.
I loved my first Appleseed! Thanks Sgt. Rock and all the instructors for bringing the events of April 19, 1775 to life! Thanks for keeping the bar high and believing in us to reach it. This 54 yr. old "cook" will be back to try for Rifleman. In the meantime I'm shootin' & recruitin'!
Thanks Sgt. Rock for posting my daughters letter. Showing it to her on here really made her smile. And I think it really capped off what we are trying to teach her about Memorial Day and her responsibilities as an American.
We really enjoyed helping out at the shoot and look forward to doing so again any time there is one set here. I know my little one is excited about taking the course when she is a bit older as well.
