I've been doing a little research on after market stuff for the 795 and thought a M1 replica stock would be cool with the Tech- Sights.
EA Brown makes them for the 10/22 already and I approached them about doing this stock for the 795.
Below is my response. Feel free to address their questions openly here or call EA brown yourself-- I think they would like the input... I will summarize all responses after a while and get them back to EA Brown.
Is there any possible interest in making this the Official Liberty Rifle of the Appleseed Project?

Thanks guys!
Dear Jerry,
I've been working on this a bit and have come up with the numbers it will require to produce at an economical price (similar to the 10/22 version). We'll need to produce a minimum of 300 stock sets at a time and sell something like 1000 a year. This is a very larger outlay of cash up front without getting some idea of how well they'll sell. The thing is, we are so into the 10/22, I have no idea what the market is for products in the Marlin 795 world. This is where I'd appreciate a little help from you:
Is there any official equipment listing of guns used in the Liberty Rifle or Appleseed project shoots? For example, if the numbers are similar to those for 10/22 we'd have an indicator.
Are there some aftermarket suppliers you can point me to who sell barrels, stocks, triggers, etc for the Marlin 795?
Is there a Marlin 795 user group or club that has a published number of members... Perhaps we could give a pre-production deal to club members for example?
What do you think of setting up a pre-order system for this product. Lots of folks will SAY they'd buy something but when you actually come out with it they say "Oh great, I'll have to get one of those..." and then they don't actually buy it. If we did a pre-order, they'd have to commit to a purchase by giving their c-card and shipping address. But, the card wouldn't be charged until the order was shipped, and they could cancel anytime up to the day the order is shipped.
I'm close to making a decision on this and will be investigating our market for the next week or so. I'd appreciate any information you could give me to aid in my decision.
Sincerely,
Eben Brown

The sling is in the wrong place--not a lot of people ride in to AS in a Cav charge. Not suitable for lefties, either.
In the past Marlin made some of their .22 semi-autos to resemble M1 Carbines. I found some parts info on them while checking out Numrich Gun Parts for some ideas for a 795 project I have in mind. One of the models is the Mdl. 99M1. The stock and handguard look close to a M1 Carbine. The sling swivel placement is correct for what we teach. You may want to point them in that direction for ideas for a prototype. If I remember correctly the stock and handguard are still available from Numrich. They could get one to use as a pattern for stock development. Based on the schematic it appears all of the Marlin semi-auto .22s are a version of the basic model 60 design.
I would rather see an AR style stock with an adjustable stock and comb.
I would go here

and see what they think. Since i'm a member over there, I'll post a link to this thread and you guys can check out the response.
If they did make an M1 Carbine stock for the 795, it would be awesome if they could make some mags that looked like M1 Carbine mags when inserted into the rifle! Maybe being a little wishful here, but it would be sweet.

Is it just me or is Appleseed growing?? :) Seems like any gun or rifle forum I go on everyone is talking about a Liberty Rifle for appleseed. Nice work. Keep it up. O0
You might point out that the Marlin 795 is probably the cheapest semi auto rifle in the US right now. As a result nearly every discount gun retailer is selling lots of them. On the other hand, the fact is that people are buying them because they are cheap. As a result they are unlikely to spend money on an aftermarket stock with the exception those rimfirecentral folks and some of us.
Interest? I'm sure there is. However, he is right in his reservations.
Though, 795's are pushing the 50/50 mark with 10/22's - It's a price/availability issue more/less.
I doubt AS would provide enough customers - as it's only luxury, and the principle of an LTR is a low-cost alternative to emulate one's center-fire.
Would I like one? Sure, it'd be neat. Would I be willing to pay $100 for one? Not unless it brings it closer to feel and function of my m14s.
However, if the 795 does take off, like the 10/22 did - There's a good chance he could get ahead of the curve and do well. And I'm sure a strong market is/or will be developing for aftermarket parts and accessories - it's already one of the complaints I hear about the rifle.
The success in this idea would depend upon the '.22lr guys' and the 'M1 carbine' guys - both tend to have deep pockets and are quite fanatical in their pursuits. -I haven't a clue which way the wind is blowing with these groups.
As per 'Official Liberty Rifle' - I cannot fathom such a distinction ever being made as it would appear to violate our principle of - 'Bring what you've got and learn to shoot it.'
Thanks for taking the lead on this - I just noticed he's outta MN... I'm outta MN.... Hmmmm....
Time for a fire-mission!

Neat if they do one for the 795. I'd be interested just for the cool factor.
As for the 10/22, there's an M1 Carbine stock out for it already. One of our instructors here in CT has one. See it here: http://centerfiresystems.com/stkrug-1022-m1.aspx Ah nevermind...actually read the OP in full. :D

Well, order one up! A little rectangular tubing and some epoxy, those replica mags would make themselves!

Ahh... But has CFS been so kind as to give links to AS on their website?

Dart67 has it right.
Remember LTR is a loaner for many instructors.
We get all different ages and sizes and the stock needs to be adjustable for small and larger people and in case a scope is mounted.
I was sad to see at my Appleseed that folks were allowed to use and qualify with scopes.... Yeah, I understand why, but in my opinion it devalues the worth of the Rifleman patch for those of us that earned it using iron sights... I totally understand why as it gets more shooters out and teaches the history of 1775 , but it might be nice if there was some way to make the distinction between iron iron sights and scopes on the patches... End of mini-rant....
Marrandy, you read my mind. That's why I have one with the stock cut down to the swivel post and plenty of pipe insulation on hand. It would be quicker to just collapse the stock than change them out.

Around here, recently we have been making cheek rests for a lot of shooters out of 1/4'' foam pad, so I definitely see the value of an adjustable cheek rest. Do any companies make a reasonably priced stock for a 10/22 or 597 that has this feature? Only one I've ever seen is the Fajen, which is pretty pricey.
Roland
For a cheek rest, try the Leatherman Accuriser. At a cost of about 30 bucks it makes a huge positive change in the rifle stock. For a scope or raised Tech Sights it is a winner. For a nice rifle with pretty wood you can use the doublestick tape and velcro to protect the finish. For a Marlin or similar rifle with a cheap inexpensive ploymer stock just use the provided screws.

Why this posted with more than one word: "CHEAP", with strike throughs, I do not know......
I just put this on my Marlin 60.

I haven't found any for the Marlin 795 yet.
If you want one, then write to the manufacturers of the above rifles and ask them to make one.
I did the same for a 795 but I had to hog out quite a bit for the different trigger guard.
