By his own admission, Hayha used an m28 or m28/30 . For a short time, he had a scoped Swede m96, but went back to iron sights as he felt it kept his head down, and thus safely on his shoulders.
the M39 is not a rework, but newly built from the ground up, only the hex reciever (a few round receivers were also used) being Russian. The Finns never made their own receivers. One description of the m39 states that newly manufactured rifles were tested w/ 5 rounds. The group had to measure 3 inches at 200 meters or the rifle was sent back.
for m39, see

-a 1944 VKT - good shooter, just went for $240 dlvrd
Dennis Kroh at http://empirearms.com --ask about the late '60s/early 70's "sneak" m39s Dennis is great to deal with, he's not the cheapest, but his stuff is fantastic.
this guy apparenly bought the last major shipment of m39s to reach the USA, and they are priced accordingly

Even the M28's and M24's shoot well. I've got one of each. For those that didn't know, Hayha is the top sniper of all time, kill wise.

I love the M39 Finns. Would love to have an M28/30 too but they're pricey. Coolest thing about the Finns, other than the history of their Wartime employment & accuracy is that many were made with pre-1899 receivers. That means under GCA68, these are non-guns. Several states' laws parallel federal law (i.e. Texas) so what you have is highly accurate (1-2 MOA) centerfire rifle that can be shipped to your door without an FFL and that is legally not a firearm.

Excellent shooting by a good shooter with a good rifle!
Check out the site listed by NMMI9100 for an M-39. If you want a mosin with the potential to SHOOT this is the one to get at this point in time.
Recent flood of Mosin Nagant threads reminded me of this: http://www.mouseguns.com/compare.htm
Hope ya'll enjoy

Tell us of your experience with the company. Any issues? condition of rifle as delivered vs advertised? did you get the modern or the 'antique' one?
