Title: Raton, NM April 16-17 NRA Whittington Center
Post by: TaosGlock on May 04, 2011, 05:05:20 PM
4 Americans stepped up to join us at the NRA's Whittington Center for our annual April 19th celebratory shoot.
They not only left with marksmanship skills but an understanding of their heritage:history that we care about.
This is the heart and soul of the Appleseed message.
BF starts the day with safety rules.

BlueFeather and NMMI dive right into the use of the GI sling. There are 2 kinds of shooters.
Those who use a GI web sling and those who wish they had one. It may be one of Uncle Sam's best contributions...ever.

The kneeling position is fast to acquire and very steady.
NMMI and BF teach the "check points" of this position.

BF delivers "the first strike of the match".
It took threes strikes of the match to get the fuse of the Revolutionary War to light.

NMMI does heritage at lunch amid the flags of our founders.
Do you know what these flags really represent.
Each one has a story. Come to an Appleseed and find out.

NMMI repaints the 700 yard target.
At a public range this target would be relatively safe.
At an Appleseed it's in deep do do.
It is 21" Do you know how may minutes that is?
Do you know how to convert minutes to clicks on your rifle?
Can you adjust your sights from it's battle sight zero to 700 yards?

Come to an Appleseed and learn these simple skills.

Zeroing your rifle is one of the first tasks a rifleman faces before moving to distance.
Here Bonnie rings steel on the 500 Yard plate with an M1 Garand while BF and NMMI coach and spot.

Husband Bill makes hits with his rifle as well.

Attending an Appleseed eventually qualifies one to purchase an M1 Garand from the CMP.
It is an accurate and hard hitting rifle/cartridge.
It is a huge symbol of our heritage and represents the sacrifices that were made in blood to secure our freedoms.
Our course of fire is one of the few approved by this patriotic organization.

And to Walker who persisted for 2 full days and never missed a beat.

A hearty thanks to those who came and to our instructors!
Our founders would be proud!
