...because sometimes, .30 cal is just not enough:

The cartridge is a great "large" game cartridge. Probably good for white tail deer as well.
I used to see (many years ago) what were called "siamese mausers" converted to .45-70.
The MN action should be way stronger than the old Springfield actions and probably compares to the new Marlin lever action rifles (Mod. 1895 and guide guns) and might be even stronger. The .45-70 has to be reloaded to meet its full potential but then it approaches the .458 Winchester Magnum. When I was in the US Army my buddy used to tell stories about his dad growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. He said sometimes they'd have a black bear come out of the deeper woods and kill a cow or two. The brothers would grab the only big rifle they had on the farm, a trapdoor Springfield, let the dogs loose and hit the woods near the last dead cow. When the dogs had the bear backed up to a tree they'd walk up and kill the bear with one shot. That was in the days of lead bullets and at the slow factory velocities for rounds made for the older rifles.
If your a bullet caster, reloader and bear/moose hunter one of these would probably be a super hunting rifle - scoped it would be even better (didn't they make mounts and scopes for these?)
Old Dog - there is a great business called Rock Solid Industries that I have bought MN scope mounts from. These are the real deal - solid 3-point mounts, not flimsy like some others:

.45-70 was a dandy horse killer in the days of the Indian wars. 500 grain lead bullet had plenty of umpf behind it and it was at least as accurate as "minute of horse". The real drawback was the single shot Springfield Trap Door. If it did not eject your empty shell, your second shot might be minutes not seconds away. That Moisin is interesting.

That Moisin is interesting.
That Mosin is insane! I suppose it is in the same league as the .458 Win Mag Garand:
