Title: AAR Massena, New York 23-24 April
Post by: Spartan on April 24, 2011, 10:33:29 PM
At the Top Appleseed shoot in NY, it was a great Easter weekend.  A big thanks to the Massena Rod and Gun Club and to the Customs and Border Security folks on the line with us. They were all great to work with.  Fantastic support we received from the club too!! The wx on Saturday was a bit rainy, cold and windy.  On Easter, the sun rose high and shined brightly, the wind dissipated.  Saturday and Sunday Morning was 25 yard work with Rifle Marksmanship and Heritage.  Sunday morning we continued on the short range and then worked on Boltgun71's excellent KD Class and then at KD out at the 300 yard Range.

What a great way to spend an Easter weekend, in the company of Appleseeders!

We had two determined Appleseed attendees, a husband and wife team that showed great persistance and improved steadily all weekend long.  Scores on the AQT continued to go up all weekend long as group sizes shrank.  NPOA, follow through, and proper sling use were the big eye openers this weekend.

On Sunday we had the opportunity to fire KD and see the relation in group size of MOA at KD related directly to group size in MOA at 25m.  We left the KD range with a clear winner in deciding who gets to take the "long" shots in this couples relationship, and just a hint its not the husband. ;)

Spartans Benediction and presentation of the first two Strikes were terrific this weekend and really brought home the importance and cost of the decisions made by our forefathers and how individuals can truly make a difference.

Besides the high point of spreading the Appleseed message of heritage and marksmanship to our fellow Americans this weekend, there was another high point of this weekends Appleseed.  RH instructor Spartan finished up his 3rd and final SBIT requirement, and after clearly showing his proficiency in running shoots, I had the honor of presenting him with his Green Hat.  I would like to welcome Spartan to the Appleseed team of SB's.  Congratulations Spartan and for those instructors in the Northeast, if you have the chance to work with this fine American I would jump at the opportunity.  He has been racking up NRA, CMP, and various other rifle marksmanship certifications over the past year and I am certain you will learn a thing or two from his mentorship.

Overall a great weekend in Massena, NY.

Way to go John & John!  Congrats to Spartan on the promotion - what's this, nearly seven months since your first AS?  That's moving quickly - clearly you understand the need and the urgency.

Thanks to you both, and to your shooters, for spending your weekend Appleseeding!
