Title: April 16-17 Fountain, CO
Post by: redneck on April 19, 2011, 12:36:01 AM
This was a great shoot! You should have been there!

The weather was much better than the 40's with 9 hours of rain we had last year. This shoot we had cool mornings, warming up to 70's or so by afternoon. We had mostly clear sky s  and just a little wind throughout the day.

We started with 19 shooters. Over half were brand new. A couple of shooters had just bought their rifle the previous week. With a line of 19, we had 12 different types of rifles. We had several children. The youngest was 7. Late Sunday when everyone was packing up their gear he said to me: "I like shooting!" and thanked me for a fun day. This kid was awesome. His family had a great time. His older sisters, age 10 and 11 shot AQT's in the upper 130's - low 140's. This was their first time shooting! Late Sunday when everyone was tired, a bit sunburned and hot, this 7 year old would race to the target line to check his targets. It took a lot to keep up with him!

Prior to the end of our shoot we awarded two Rifle Man Patches, several Young Patriot Patches, promoted a level 2 Instructor in Training to a level 3, and, got two new volunteers started as Instructors in Training. We had several returning students from a year ago. They shot well with AQT scores just a little under 200. All in all a very productive shoot. I can't wait to next year!

Photos to follow!

I'm adding pictures for redneck.

One tough kid... got stung by a bee Sunday and stayed till Sunday afternoon
The youngsters had a hard time with the adult sized stocks. I think Dad will be buying some new rifles soon!

We had 13 different types of rifles at this shoot, more than any shoot I have been to in the last 3 years.
Shooting a rifle for the first time with a Henry lever 22.  The second photo taken during prep period.

I don't know who was more proud.... Mom, or 7 year old Ty.

We had everything from a breach loading 22 to this great looking M1A1.
Right handed and left eye dominant, 7 year old Ty had to get up, out of position every shot to load his breach loading 22. At the end of our shoot he told me thanks and "I like shooting!"

I think our Instructor, Cognitive Dissonance, was as proud as Mom and Dad were....
