Title: AAR Terrell, TX April 16-17, 2011
Post by: starfox on April 18, 2011, 12:27:33 AM
Getting this started with the Cliff notes overview...(more to come)

WOW.  What an event.  Sold out a month and a half in advance.  Full line of 15 shooters on Saturday.  We produced 3 Riflemen on Sat.   Sunday, 6 returning (four not returning were part of a family of shooters.  Dad made it back, but the younguns were plumb tuckered out).  3 more Riflemen Sunday.   ^:)^

The Volley was inspiring and I dang near wore my voice out by the end of it.  About half were returning Appleseeders, but absolutely everyone was listening to their heritage closely.  We shot 3 AQTs on Saturday, including the Volley.  I've never accomplished that on a Saturday and is a testament to the quality of our shooters.

The range was great as always and we hope to hold future events there.  The range even gave us flyers to hand out for their CMP sponsored matches (which we dutifully plugged, hopefully some Rifleman ringers can make the dates   ;)).

Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club is an exceptional range in the DFW Metroplex and they put us up in first class accommodations.  I wish to personally thank Alan, Ed, and a few others whose names escape me for hosting us and making our events seamless.

As Shoot Boss of a sold out event, and an important location for the Metroplex, I wish to personally thank dalesp for coming down from Oklahoma to help with this shoot.  Without another seasoned Red Hat I think I would have added significantly to my grey hair count.  I also want to thank Grumpy for answering the 11th hour call for just one more instructor.   And my thanks and admiration to Zach (thesheepdog) who continues to prove why the DFW area instructors are some of the best in Texas.

Thanks also goes to Zach's brother Jeremy for filming the event for promotional purposes.

Congrats to all our shooters and our 6 new Riflemen.

Good Show, Starfox.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Pics.

Dalesp, Grumpy, and the sheepdog did some fine work to turn out that many new Riflemen.

We just gave them the tools to work with and showed them the way.

The shooters did the work, and they did it very well.

Huzzah to all  who got off the couch this weekend.

We had a great time and learned so much. Thanks to you starfox,  Dalesp, Grumpy, and the sheepdog. My girls enjoyed Saturday, but Sunday morning they could not win the fight with the pillow monster. But I did, and I am so glad I did. I know I would not have made Rifleman without you guys helping me to refine my skills.

And the Three Strikes, Dangerous Men and Women, and being a part of the Volley were great moments. I will be bringing the family back to another Appleseed soon.

P.S. I changed my avatar to the Happy Gunslinger with his Rifleman patch photo from Sunday.  8)

He He He "I are a rifleman!" Sure was about time!  :wb: %) #) !@#) ++) HE HE HE   It only took three tries and a last minute Saturday night scramble to put an old scope on my 10/22!  Once I could see the target, I found a multitude of issues that Starfox, DaleSP, Grumpy and the SheepDog helped me through.  Thanx guys, hope to see you in June!

Had an awesome weekend --  I love driving across Texas in the Spring when the wildflowers are in bloom. Thanks Ladybird!

Six new Riflemen forged under the Texas sun - That's Awesome with only 15 shooters on the line! Everyone made great progress with several shooters scoring in the 190s and 200s.

Ride home was interesting. Got a speeding ticket in Dallas County, Ate dinner at 5 Guys with my son, Jeff.  Enjoyed seeing all the Texas Hot Rods coming home from the big show in OKC on I-35.  Stopped to help a trucker put out a brake fire. Used up my fire extinguisher and even went back for the water in the cooler. We slowed it down, but the fire was winning. Got his rig unhooked from the trailer and called the Hwy Patrol. I couldn't do any more so I got out of the way and back on the road. Hope he didn't lose the trailer - but would bet he did.

Otherwise, I got home a little more red than I would have hoped for but otherwise good, and in bed before midnight. . . almost.

Pics to follow . . .

That sucks.  Did you 7th step the cop?  Ask spitstickler about his run-in with a Louisiana cop on his way to a shoot in Sherburne. :)

No he never gave me a chance.  I handed him my CHL and DL and said "Sir, I am armed."  He looked at the CHL and handed it back.  I was hoping he would ask what I was packing . . .   just to see his expression when I ran down the list . . . but he didn't ask, just wrote me up.
