Title: 10/22 & 795 muzzle break questions
Post by: BeSwift on April 08, 2011, 11:15:07 PM
I want to put muzzle breaks on my loaners, in an effort to minimize the chance of students scraping/getting dirt in the muzzle areas. Anyone have experience which products (if any) will work with Tech Site front sites? I know threaded versions are available, but I'm trying to avoid threading if possible...  Any info would be appreciated...Thanks   BeSwift

The bull barrel tech sight sleeve works as a great muzzle protector on my 10/22T.

Sorry I don't have info on the carbine barrels, but would be concerned about blocking the front iron tech sight.

I have a flash hider on one of my non-Tech sighted carbine barrels. It is an Eagle brand. I bought it from Cabela's years ago. It appears they don't carry it any longer but it pretty much like this:

I know that my first question was "Why does a .22 need a muzzle break?" but you answered that already.  ;D

Hello Group; The Idea of the loaner rifle being used to dig for worms in front of the NON RIFLE OWNER, has caused me some bit of stress----------- The folks at Brownells have easy to install quality items that I have installed (single set screw, with loc tight of course) on two of my loaners so the  shooter who is digginn into the earth or rubbing the end of MY barrel on the cement does not harm the rifle, and I leave the shoot with out stressing about the lack of respect that some NON rifle owners show others property....

The more happy, Pappy

Could I twist your arm into posting a link or the name of the product?    Thx    BeSwift

Gents,

For your edification, the correct spelling is BRAKE, not break. Think car brakes, which slow or dampen motion.

It drives me nuts when supposedly knowledgeable gun writers and vendors use the wrong spelling, thereby perpetuating the poor grammatical usage.     !@#)

Rant over, I'll be back in a few with the Midway part # for the brake you need.

John Masen Muzzle Brake

MIdway USA part # 183530  Blued steel.

I have one on my loaner for the same reason. Works great. Not sure about the tech site fit, but it's slotted for the factory sight and attaches with set screw ( I had to press it on the barrel) The worst case is that you might have to open up the slot a little with a file.

I have one I turned from an old 50 cal muzzleloader barrel for my 10-22 loaner. Anyone know of one for a 795? The exposed barrel ahead of the tech sights front sight is really short.

Have one on mine. Those who feel confident with their skills with a Dremel can cut the brake a little for it to fit over the nut at the base of the Tech Sights, or just pay a gunsmith like I did.

OK.. I got this one... http://www.amazon.com/Ruger-Short-Muzzle-Brake-Black/dp/B001OLVI5A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1303179361&sr=8-3

It's installed on my 10/22 with Tech Sites and fits very well.. We'll see how well the set screw idea works out... IF it holds up through a shoot as a loaner, I'll get another for my Marlin 795.. It didn't quite fit the 795 with Tech Sites, BUT it wasn't off by much.. likely could be easily remedied with a file...

I'll report back with updates as I test this product... BeSwift

B,

That's the one...

Likely made in China and sold by everyone. I just installed another one on my daughter's new 10/22 build.

Looks just like the one I have, had to be filed down a little on my Tech-Sighted 10/22

Any brake that slips over the muzzle and factory front sight will work.  I have an old aluminum one on my 10/22 and it does prevent mud, snow and dirt from getting into the barrel. Looks kinda cool too.

Best quote of the year.

Still laughing.

Thanks Pappy.
