The intent of this posting is to open the After Action Report for the Myakka City, FL Appleseed held on March 26 - 27, 2011 at the excellent facilities of the Manatee Gun and Archery Club.
We were very fortunate to have absolutely beautiful weather for both days of this event. Saturday's high was in the high 70's and Sunday's high was probably in the high 80's. Both days were sunny with scattered clouds. Fantastic Appleseed weather.
On both days we only had pre-registered shooters with no walk-ons. The three strikes were well received on Saturday, and marksmanship instruction went quickly with our group of eager and attentive students. We were able to run 3 AQTs by Saturday afternoon. Although we had several students "knocking on the door" we didn't have any Riflemen, but it certainly wasn't from their lack of trying.
Sunday opened bright and early with a comprehensive review of Saturday's marksmanship lessons. Once the stiffness of Saturday's exertions by the shooters wore off, we were able to complete 3 AQTs by lunch time. After a DOM presentation at lunch followed by a quick "fun" event, we got into the AQT grind and ran 5 more before we switched to the KD portion of the Appleseed.
Following the excellent KD presentation by PHenry, all of our shooters switched to the KD range. After an enjoyable time by all on the KD range, we returned to the 25m range to shoot our final Redcoat target. We concluded the day with our Rifleman Patch presentation to Brian, and the closing Benediction. A lot of happy, tired shooters then helped us clean up the range before heading home.
Congratulations to Brian O0
Looks like another good Florida event .
Hey Dick(OF) you need any help down there ? That 70s weather is really attractive ::)
JA
Richard (JA) - I've got to admit that I smugly included the fantastic Florida weather report after reading some of the other AARs reporting, COLD, SNOWY & RAINY conditions. Guess Florida isn't too bad a place to hold Appleseeds. We instructors discussed whether or not we could officially call it an "SpringFrolicSeed" but decided that might be pushing it a little much. ^:)^
You're always welcome to "come on down" anytime you want.
:cool2:Wonderful event,
Very Family oriented, two father son couples, one father daughter, and a Boy and girl friend! A Rifleman, O0, Brian,Hope to see you on the line with us O0
It was a great event , with picture perfect weather and great people. Onliest way it could have been better is if there was more of them. So, please help us git the word out. We have not one, but two fine venues in that neck o the woods!
It was great meeting all of ya'll, from Eric who had never done much with a rifle, to Brian who was so focused - I just knew he'd make score. Gene and his lovely daughter, Jessica were a hoot, with Dad giving J grief and J rolling her eyes like any good teenage daughter. :cool2: The father and son team of Kevin and Doug who shot the tiny little "Redcoats" an won patches - nicely don sirs!
Always renews my spirit to spend a weekend surrounded by people who know what they are about and appreciate our unique American heritage. Hope to see all a ya'll agin soon. O0
Many thanks,
PHenry

Funny u should mention. We lost three of five shoot bosses late last year and that leaves myself and ItsanSKS to run near 70 events, which we will do if push comes to shove, but the weather really is nice about now. By August - not so much. ^-^
Great Picture of my Dad and I PHenry, thanks for posting. We had a great time! We are ready to come back and do it again. I have been talking to several of my friends about the event and I hope all of them will make it with us the next time. I can't wait to get my second appleseed under my belt so I can start helping out. I should be bringing my son the next time I come (three generations) as well. Well catch you guys later.
S1gnal Zer0
