Title: AAR - Sacramento, March 19 & 20, 2011
Post by: nukechaser on March 22, 2011, 01:05:53 AM
Weather forecast was for cold, rain and wind with gusts in the valley up to 70 mph!
It seemed to live up to its expectations. It was a challenge not only keeping the targets affixed to the backers, but to keep the backers from taking flight without a flight plan.

We had 16 guests come out to brave the weather, included a group of scouts.  In spite of the nasty weather all took to the instruction with earnest.

History during lunch was well received, but the weather took a turn for the worst.  Some of the younger guests had been fighting the batch of sicknesses that has been making the rounds in these parts and decided to head home for some recovery time with the eager promise to return again, as they seemed to enjoy it all.

Sunday was even wetter than Saturday but the wind was not quite as wicked.  Seven shooters returned to flop down in the muck and work on the skills that were reviewed.  By lunch everyone, both guests and instructors were shivering and the shooters were having a tough time with manipulating their equipment. We all took turns warming by the camping stove during the Dangerous Old Men and Determined Dames.  The respite from the wind and rain under the shelter and the difficulty of keeping the soggy targets from flying away during the courses of fire was enough for guests.  The consensus was that it was a great, albeit frustrating time, and they decided to call it a day, with the promise of returning again.

Heartfelt thanks were exchanged by all and the last Redcoat was saved for another day.
