Title: AAR Las Vegas March 12-13
Post by: Xeyed on March 15, 2011, 03:36:58 AM
It was a beautiful weekend for an Appleseed in Las Vegas. 72 degrees, sunny with gentle breeze. All we were missing was Flamingo's and Palm trees on the firing line.

We primarily had returning shooters, continuing down traveling down the path of Rifle Marksmanship. One of whom had joined RWVA since his last event and promptly became our first Nevada Riffle Opportunity Card Holder.

In addition to some familiar faces, we had some young shooters who spent the weekend learning proficiency with a Rifle and their Heritage as an American. Our youngest shooter was 10 :)

Most shooters, even the youngest ones were shooting <6 MOA groups by the end of the first sheet of squares.

Lunch was memorable with history shared.

The firehose of Rifle Knowledge was opened and the students drank deeply, slaking a consuming thirst that drove them on. After the end of the formal program  all but one shooter stayed to shoot an AQT. The high AQT score of the day was turned in by  Annie, on of our youngest shooters with a respectable score of 197.  :~

Sunday
Started right on time, gained some new faces and lost others

Shot the morning Redcoat and squares, reviewed everything and began the serious shooting.

Lunch, with history on Dangerous Old Men and and the inaugural presentation of The Wedding that never was by Trebbleshooter. It was a moving story that every one who was there will remember.  Some moist eyes in the crowd as the magnitude of the sacrifices made on our behalf were internalized and recognized. It became very real. Not the droning type of  history lectures that put people to sleep. But the type of story that lights a fire in peoples souls.

Spent the rest of the day with AQTs and fun drills.

Most AQTs over the weekend fell in the 175-205 range. The next generation of Nevada Riflemen are knocking on the door.

Looking forward to handing out some patches to returning shooters at the Patriots day shoot next month.

I guess this is a case of  . . . What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas. For now at least
