Title: Ballistics calculator?
Post by: Jimi on January 28, 2011, 10:56:01 AM
Does anyone have a link to a ballistics calculator? Even the formulas would work if available. We have chronograged some loads and want to do some down range calculations. We have the ballistic coefficients and sectional densities of the bullets used and would like to calculate expected velocities and energy down range.

Our pet rounds right now we want to calculate are for our newly built 338-06 "thumpers" out to 2000 Yards+.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Jimi:

I use this one as well, for informal guestimating.

For serious ballistic calculations, I use Exbal for PocketPC.  Goes with me in the field.  Nicest thing about it is you can set it up so you zero at one location, like Carlsbad, where it's 95 degrees, and 3200 feet of elevation.  Then you take it to Colorado for a hunt at 8000 feet of elevation and 40 degrees and it will give you firing solutions that account for local conditions.

Google "Perry Systems Exbal".  There's a desktop and a PocketPC version.  I run the pocketPC version on a $40 Dell Axim X5 I ebayed.

if you are an Iphone person - the Isnipe app is excellent - it already has most factory loadings in almost all calibers loaded already and it lets you put in your rifle characteristics and it'll automatically load the environmental conditions from the local weather service.
