SUMMARY: We had a great shoot! First, we had lots of fresh, powdery snow. The shooters were a hardy bunch that wouldn't give up. Sounds like New Englanders to me. Three out of eight shot Rifleman, an admirable tally.
Shoot Boss: Firewall99
Instructors: Freestater
Riflemen Made: 3
Riflemen Made Ratio: 37.5%
Day 1 Weather: Sunny and really cold (-8° F), no wind
Day 2 Weather: Variable and slightly warmer, with flurries, no wind
Good 1: Our shooters showed a huge improvement (100-500%!) as evidenced by the Redcoat target scores:
Saturday Score Sunday
AM PM AM PM
0 0 No Hits 0 0
0 3 3 Hits @ 10 4 5
0 2 3 Hits @ 20 2 3
0 1 3 Hits @ 300 1 1
0 0 3 Hits @ 40 1 1
1 0 HS 2 1
0 0 Cleaned Target 0 0
Good 2: We had three Ruger factory workers on board, at least one of whom actually worked on the 10/22 line. We had a useful and informative exchange of views regarding the manual bolt release and the (ahem!) factory sights.
Good 3: There was no wind! (Thank you, Lord.) Amazingly, the cold was not an issue.
Good 4: We had a classic, Appleseed-approved Saturday. We completed the complete course, all three strikes, and 4 AQT's. On Sunday we ran drills and Rifleman pickup, where everyone got to shoot someone else's rifle and learn that you can't miss fast enough and that only hits count.
Bad 1: Those Ruger factory sights were hampering three shooters who could never get their sights zeroed.
Solution 1: Tech Sights (http://www.tech-sights.com/) or a fixed magnification scope of no more than 4x.
Great job to all the shooters and instructors!!! Too cold for pictures??? ;D

I was too busy shooting video! Probably the video files are too big to post here. I sent the videos off to spitstickler, though.
The picture quality was, ah, less than optimal. These new pocket digital video cameras have no provision for controlling the f-stop or shutter speed. Consequently, winter shots come out overly dark IMHO.
We'll try to get some decent stills at
Peterborough, NH, on Feb 19-20. There's a write-up for that shoot around here. It's going to be super! We've got a sponsor who's providing a 24-man heated tipi!
Any instructor who wants a chance to earn a Winterseed badge should sign up for Peterborough at Instructor Scheduling. If we get enough instructors, everyone can shoot.
Some of us are actually planning to sleep over night in the tipi. The club is cooking breakfast for us and any early shooters.
This Peterborough shoot is going to be a blast!
