Title: AAR Alamogordo New Mexico 15-16 Jan 2011
Post by: duc-dog on January 17, 2011, 05:40:08 PM
Winter is Appleseed time in New Mexico.  With temps in the mid 60's with no wind everyone was down to shirt sleeves by noon.  That is my kind of " Winterseeding".
The lines were full and we had many new faces join us to hear the history and celebrate our heritage.  I specifically want to thank the junior shooters that showed up and the parents that made it possible to attend.  You are our future.  What America is to become relies on what we are doing now.
We had quite a few shooters knocking on the door of that "Rifleman" score and we had one shooter make that threshold.  Norm also accepted the responsibility of the orange hat and has formally joined us on the trail.  He and his family have been actively 7th stepping since their first Appleseed and we are proud to welcome then to help us grow New Mexico and the nation.
They success of any shoot always depends on the instructors and as always New Mexico stepped up to the task.  We had 10 instructors for 34 students.  A pretty good student to teacher ratio by any standards.  Thanks for your hard work and dedication.
You could not ask for a better weekend.

             Until next time; Happy trails

                           Milt

My first Appleseed as an IIT, and I had a BLAST!   ..:..
We had a great group of shooters on the line, and had improvement shown by ALL.
Congrats Norm on your Rifleman scores!!  And thanks for volunteering to follow the trail.

And  great time was had by all!

Nice to see a full range, and a bit of competition for a spot on the line.
Next time I guess we'll have to use the 50 and GP1 so we have space, a problem I would love to have to deal with.
As always Alamogordo shoots seem to draw plenty of posterity to pass on the tradition to. We love juniors and have no issues with it at all.
Makes it worth while. When we find they haven't heard the history in school it motivates us all the more.

Welcome to the ranks Norm, Gina will be close behind so don't back off

a special thanks to Appleseed Widow and Gina for their strong Seventh Step efforts.

Sam

I just loved seeing those young'uns out there!  The young lady I worked with on Saturday will be a fine shooter and will be a contender with her new Cricket.  It was also great to see those Dangerous Old Folks out there putting rounds down range.  Just goes to show you, us old dogs can learn new tricks! O0
Kudos to Norm for great shooting and stepping up to the plate for his country!  A more committed Patriot you would never meet!

I've got Anthony's #..... I'll be calling him whenever I hit the range to see if he wants to 'practice.'

Jeff, give him my email and contact info. I think if we can help him work through his back problems, similar to mine, we can have another great asset.

I would like to thank all the shooters. I must admit this is the first time I've work with junior shooters, and made my weekend.  They were so full of energy and persistence that it made the time pass very quickly.  But, not to leave the rest of the shooters out, I have to say that the enthusiasm I was enveloped with was truly a blessing.  I can't name the number of times a shooter made a small NPOA or SHF change and received immediate improved results, which was reflected by the smile on their faces, the spring in their steps (even late in the day), and them coming by with their targets to show me their improvements.  I enjoyed each and every one of you.

Norm, congratulations on making Rifleman, and thank you for stepping up and accepting the Orange Hat!   O0

I can't speak for the shooters or the rest of the instructors, but I had a lot of fun!  I hope there are many more Alamo-seeds this year!

Gideon,
For some reason we generally have a bunch of young folks shooting here in Alamo.  They make it all worthwhile.

Captwa.
Hopefully my mail will straighten out and I'll be able to get them pix posted tomorrow

Ok guys I'll take a shot at a few pictures here. Full sized for quality attachments doesn't go far with these new cameras.  I obviously don't have everyones email so I sent them to Sam for distribution to appropriate persons.  Feel free to re distribute at will.

                                                  Wa

Does that Fred guy travel around with a bunch of spare M-14 parts? I hear he might be in state soon!

One of the parts of safety folks don't see on the line is the post shoot critiqe. Gentle and supportive but deadly serious. Shhhhh this may be a big 'Seed secret.

Oh !, almost forgot "Thumper" helping to provide incentive to find your "bubble" despite background noise.  KABLAAMO !!

Young shooters get extra supervision and instruction. Another one of those " Seed Secrets" and one of the reasons preregistration is important !

You think they were kidding about the flogging?  Don't bet on it!!
