Hello Everyone,
I'm Jamie Franks. I'm a Rifleman and IIT out of Southern California (originally from North Carolina). I'm a US Navy Rescue Swimmer stationed in San Diego, currently deployed to Afghanistan.
I will be competing in the second season of the History Channel's hit reality show TOP SHOT.
I've had to keep this a secret for a while, but the History Channel made the official cast announcement tonight. The season begins airing Februart 8th at 10pm EST/PST. While I was there, I proudly wore my Rifleman patch (when we weren't competing), and I mentioned Appleseed a few times in my interviews. Hopefully some of that will make it on TV, and be good publicity for Appleseed.

Feel free to "Like" my bio on the History Channel site. You can also log on to FaceBook and go to my fan page "Top Shot Season 2 - Jamie Franks Fan Page" and become a fan.
As soon as I get home from Afghanistan, I'm looking forward to getting back on track, and finishing up my RED HAT qualification.
See you guys on the firing line!
Congrats Squid,
Represent!
I have to admit I'm a bit jealous. Some friends told me about that show when it was in pre-production. I went on the site and sent in a video. Never heard from them.
I don't have a tv (like a good Appleseeder) but I will be sure and keep abreast of your progress.
You should come to NY sometime. We'll put you on the line.
See you on the trail.

Do you have a link to this blog? Everything I found by him commenting on the Top Shot experience indicated that he could shoot alright but the rifle sights were loose and way off and his spotter was no help...(he was clear that he was not blaming anything/anyone but himself though as he could have done things differently in retrospect)
You can't be a terrible shot and earn multiple Expert Rifleman in the US Marine Corps.... They do not allow poor shots to become USMC Marksmanship Instructors... Luck has little to do with 500M slow fire..... :)

Watch the show again...He was on paper with his first shot...Blaming the rifle and the spotter is NOT the way of the Rifleman..
Congratulations Sar_Squid79...My son and I watched most of last season, until the in-fighting got ridiculous. I hope you were able to avoid the pig wrasslin' and let your skillset do your talkin' for ya.

It may be that the spotter missed that first hit. You are 100% correct. I don't think that he ever claims to be nor aspires to be a Rifleman. I watched what I could find on youtube for videos and he never took responsibility for his misses against Kelly either. "never trained at these distances" can not be a true statement if his resume and experiences are factual as listed on the Shooting-Performance site. My point was that his shortcomings are not that he is a terrible shooter and never shot a rifle at long distances and the reason that he could not hit a target at 100 yds is not that he can not do so in perfect conditions with a properly zeroed rifle. If he would have simply said that he made poor decisions and just screwed up,it would have looked better.
I appologize for hijacking this thread. This thread is intended to celebrate the fact that one of our own made it on the show and not to dwell on the shortcomings of a former Reality TV participant.
SAR_Squid.
Way to go!! I will have my daughter dvr (?) it again, so I can watch it. O0
Thanks

Congratulations!
We'll be rooting for you on TV, and best of luck at your 'day job' as well!

Awesome!
I like how you said "competing on" but didn't give us the slightest hint on how well you did. Can you at least say if what you learned at Appleseed helped you out? How about a little bit of an AAR without getting too into the infosec concerns?
I guess I'll just have to watch the show!
Keep up the good work. Not just about the show, but over there in the 'stan. Get home safely. America needs you here just as much as we need you there!
Sweet!!! Now I really, really can't wait for Season 2! Woot! Congrats, and be safe.
WOW! Congrats for being on Top Shot! I watched the last season and really like the show.
;D GOOD LUCK! ;D
Are you the only one from Appleseed? I posted they were looking for people a while back. http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=15800.0
Congratulations!
I watched the fist few episodes on hulu or something like that... When Dart had posted it...
I saw way too much drama to be a part of that. I hope you do/did well!
Guess I'll be seein' you on the tube! aka, laptop....
Huzza!
Go get 'em Jamie!
That is great I know several people talk about the show. I have never seen it I just get 3 channels and seldom turn the tv on. Be sure to keep those of us that don't watch informed.
Good luck even though it is over I assume. O0
First of all Jamie, THANK YOU for serving this great Nation through your service in the USN.
That's FANTASTIC news that you'll be on Season 2 of TOP SHOT on the History Channel. I'm SURE Appleseed is being represented well. O0 Keep up the good work.
Oh, and I like your signature, line 3. :)
Stay the Course,

Go get em Jamie! As as an old squid and seeder myself, we'll be pulling for you!....O.L.
Congrats SAR_Squid79!
Can't wait to watch! Must say, I wasn't overly impressed with last season's group of competitors. I'm looking forward to watching you compete.

Almost everything we teach at Appleseed helped me out. If you practice these things enough that they become habit - and you don't have to think about them anymore - it just becomes reflex.
Things like:
- The 6 steps of firing a shot (especially trigger squeeze, follow-through / trigger reset)
- NPOA
- Rifleman's Cadence
I would say that those are the things that came into play the most while I was competing on the show. They never would give us a sling - I asked for one a few of times!
Once I had been selected as a semi-finalist, and had to go to Los Angeles and do the final-casting tryout, one of the rifles they had us shoot had a sling on it, and it was up to you whether or not you used it. Of course - as any good Rifleman would - I utilized the sling. We had 1 minute to shoot 10 shots at 150 yards - any position you wanted. So that was straight out of the Appleseed. I shot from a good prone position, using the sling. The guys I was shooting beside did not. I made it on to the show. Neither of those guys did...
O0 O0 O0
That's awesome Squid! I'll be sure to look that up... ;)

Good deal man. I'll be looking for ya on there. I watched the full last season, but grudgingly. It had way more drama than I would have liked, or perhaps way less on-air shooting (im sure yall shot alot more than we see after editing). But I will watch it this time around because one of the family is on there! :)
Hope you did well!

Jamie: Thank you for your service in helping to protect and defend our country! I have run a small, very successful restaurant for nearly 24 years now. All of our successes and the good lives we have are due in part to brave men and women like you, who dedicate their lives to our country. Without people like you, we would not have the freedoms that allow us to have the opportunity to prosper! Thanks again. I am a brand new instructor in training, attending a IBC in Lincoln, NE on Jan 29th & 30th. My best score so far was a 222 at my 1 Appleseed shoot so far. Not too bad for an old man! ;) I plan on doing better and look forward to helping train more people, including my Grandson! I have watched Top Shot in the past and will Tivo the show in order not to miss it. Good luck and good shooting!

We (me & Appleseed) are going to work on this when I get home from Afghanistan. I have to get History Channel's permission for that. I am also going to try to go on 'Rifleman Radio' when I get home too. So we'll see.
I got off to a bit of a slow start, but it gets better. Stay tuned and keep the faith! Thanks for all the support, guys and gals! 8)
We'll have you on "Rifleman Radio" bout any time you want.

Hey folks, let's be careful here.
I'm guessing that Jamie has signed an Agreement which strictly controls Jaimie's use of the History Channel's Intellectual Property, and we should be patient with him as he consults with them for the permissions (meaning that its premature to proceed with promos & flyers).
My .02
He's also had to sign bloodthirsty agreements to not disclose anything before it gets aired, so no asking him how he did overall and no asking what other types of weapons he got to shoot.
He can't tell us until AFTER it gets aired.
Which doesn't stop ME from saying that I hope you kicked some serious butt, Jamie! I can be patient and wait to see it, though.

I suppose it would be fruitless to try and extract the info from him! :-X
A retro-active good luck! And a pro-active good job!
Now, if only I could find a way to watch the show. :'(
"I would say that those are the things that came into play the most while I was competing on the show. They never would give us a sling - I asked for one a few of times!" quoted..
Ah, yes. The difference between television Reality Shows and Appleseed is RWVA really wants you to shoot better and TV just wants the attention of the audience for commercial interruptions. I hope you did well there, and really hope your tour in Afghanistan is great. Speaking of commercial interruptions I think Appleseed doesn't need the head nod from Top Shot, we can stand on our own, and the better we produce shooters and citizens the less likely Hollywood or other parts of LA will want us around. Are we having any Southern California Appleseeds?
Not that Top Shot wants my opinion, if they want the shoot off, fine. Then allow all the shooters to compete on the same targets with the same firearms. And you could have that not recorded - or save it for the SPECIAL additions on the DVD. More shooting less shoving and shouting would make a better show. But I am hibernating what would I know?
FYI for those who don't get the history channel you can watch the show on Hulu.com for free. Enter Top Shot and search it will take you to Season two, Episode: one.
I thought that the only people in the Navy who could shoot were the Marines... **)
Good luck to ya from a nasty, dirty leg!
Jaime, you better beat her you dog you! ;D O0
Good job dude! That must have been fun as hell!

I missed last night's episode, so I'll have to catch the replay.
It was his coat. Here's the screen shot from about 36mins in (without commercials) when he was folding it just perfect so the patch was on top. ^:)^
Good job Jamie!!! Talk about strategic product placement!!!! ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^
Muy whole house is pulling for you!
My wife and I both let out a whoop when we saw Jamie's Rifleman patch. And again when he beat Athena! Way to go, Jamie - nice to see that aimed fire in cadence beats out spray and pray.
Jamie,
Good go on the Rifleman patch!
AND
Good to see that you have a teachable attitude and good discipline to work the Tommy the way you needed to.
:~ :~ :~
Alright guys - thanks for the continued support! I'M SOOO GLAD MY RIFLEMAN "PRODUCT PLACEMENT" WORKED OUT!!! Hopefully you'll see me actually wearing it later, too.
...I absolutely hate to make excuses for poor shooting. 99% of the time, the weakest link with any weapon system is the shooter.
That being said - I hated that Colt Police Positive!!! We each had our own seperate pistols, and every single one of them shot differently, and NONE of them shot straight. These were not reproduction pistols - these pistols were actually from the 1920's and they were all worn out! ...I think mine must have been recovered from the Titanic!
The first team challenge with the billiard balls - I think I just choked. I was extremely nervous. The Prohibition Challenge - as lame as it sounds, I have to blame that gun.
I ran up, loaded my pistol (having dadged all paintballs), lined up on the first bottle, squeezed the trigger. I saw my shot go left. Now - with a right-handed shooter it's a common trigger pull error to "push" your shot to the left. I assumed the error was ME. So for the 2nd target, I lined up my sights the same, concentrated on a good trigger pull, and the shot still went left. Then I realized that it was the gun - not me. So for the last shot, I compensated to the right, and fired on the 3rd target, and I hit a little high of the explosive bullseye.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_Police_Positive
If you look at the Colt Police Positive, the front sight is a tall half-moon blade, the rear sight is a V-shaped groove cut into the top of the receiver. So for a proper sight alignment, you have to sink the front sight abnormally low. Everything about it feels wrong. This is what accounts for my last shot being too high...
BUT - Excuses are like buttholes, and I (rightfully) went to the elinimation challenge, and wrecked shop with the Thompson!!!
I swear - I don't really suck this bad! Just keep watching!!!!

Is it just me or is it the COOLEST damn thing in the world to get an AAR from the guy we just watched shooting on the show? I hope we get 13 more AARs from Jamie. Keep going, brother!
BTW, the only reason we still have cable is to watch this season of Top Shot. Once it's over, we're pulling the plug.

Looking forward to the next one featuring an event with the M1A.

Settle in, take a deep breath and enjoy. You have all the support in the world.
Floppycap
Please take every opportunity to "school" both the shooters and the folks running the show about shooting. After watching the first 2 episodes I'm amazed at the comments some folks (who are supposed to be experienced professionals) are making about both guns and shooting.
Just too let some of you know...this was taped long ago ..so theres no chance of Jamie tell them anything "but he did if you look close he plugged where he could"..Its over and He's back to saving lives in the Navy...But belive me The producers know who we are ....I have had a chance to share with seasons one Losers or at least the ones that want to get better at rifle shooting...Dont be suprised if you see a end of the shows bringem back to shoot again kinda deal like they do with survior tv shows. And from what I hear a few want one more crack at it...
One last piont to I have talked to alot of folks that either were asked or just got refused to appear...They dont want to many Real shooters that know just what they are about..It wont make for good TV remeber its a show and its about ratings and Drama....Im sure Jamie will share with us the behind the sceen's stuff he did know about after all the lawayers are paid and he's off the Grid..But that doesnt mean we as a team shouldnt keep trying to get a casting call....Fred would enjoy that for sure..And NO I wont try it Ive got to many steel rods but boy if I didnt I would ...
Well enjoy the show and look for the 3rd and 4 th seasons of the show its going to be good....Just keep in mind its tv and we all know what that means Drama and more Drama...Now if I can get Mike Friend to spill the beans ..He was the Tommy gun Instructor..I shoot with him every year at oklahomafullauto.com ..And he's got some cool toys Oh Mike your busted..
Alright jaime, so what are you getting us all from Bass Pro Shops with all them gift cards O0
good job with the race guns man.
Looks like he's going to end up with one another one in the next few weeks - George really seems to have it in for him. If Jamie keeps going at this rate, he won't need the $100k grand prize - he'll just have to do all his shopping at Bass Pro Shops!!
The nice thing about watching this unfold is seeing that Jamie has remained a gentleman while staying competitive and helping move his team forward. The other guys - not so much. Jamie is "winning the hearts and minds" out there.

I agree. I really try to avoid the drama stuff on these shows, but some of those guys just REALLY rub me the wrong way. Sure, there could be factors we didnt see due to editing, but yeah, that one guy just really seems to have a stick up his bum and whats more seems like he prefers it. I dunno, well see, but Jaimie is holding his own so far.
No sweat.
This show is an entertainment product.
The producers want a larger audience so they use "Survivor" style interpersonal drama as a "jeopardy" element in every episode.
If its a fair contest, though, all that matters is who can make the shots.
At least he's collecting BassPro cards, which means that so far, Jaime has actually netted more coin from this show than any other entrant, right? O0

Sorry I haven't posted up in a while. I've been traveling home from Afghanistan (I am back home now) and trying to get my body back on schedule with the Western Hemisphere.
Thanks very much for all the continued support. I was especially proud of my showing with the 1911, and the Razorcat Race Gun. Not too shabby with the compound bow, and the tomahawk, either!
All of the drama between George and I is a little bit rediculous, and a little out of proportion, I think. All of us on the Red Team got along great 95% of the time, and were always respectful and friendly with each other. Me and Gunny, and Me and Chris Reed especially got along well. The editors have to cram 72 hours into 43 mintues of air time, and they cut it to create the atmosphere that they want to portray. At one point the producers told us that we were making them sick because we were all getting along so well, and not trash talking enough.
None of the competition or contestant interaction is scrpited. The only things that were scripted were some of the promo stuff we did for History (that I haven't seen aired yet).
Although nothing was scripted, sometimes during our interviews they would try to steer you towards something that they wanted you to say. For example: there were many interviews where they tried to get me to talk trash about George, and tried to steer me towards saying that he was singling me out, and picking on me, and that I was sick of it, etc.
I never wanted to say those things because - #1: I didn't want to sound like I was whining and crying, #2: I guess I'm incredibly naive because George and I got along pretty well 90% of the time. There was no way I could have known about him talking so much crap behind closed doors... I actually went so far as to defend George a few times when they (the producers) were trying to get me to call him out.
I didn't dislike George, and tried to be his friend, and we still keep in touch a little bit through FaceBook. George does have the skills to pay the bills when it comes to long range shooting, and there is A TON that I would like to learn from him. He definitely knows what he's doing and what he's talking about. His career field is Military Police, and he is qualified as a USAF Security Forces Counter-Sniper.
*BUT* he has attended the Army Sniper School (Bravo-4), and the USMC Scout Sniper Course, in addition to several Law Enforcement SWAT Sniper / Counter-Sniper courses. He has won numerous sniper competitons in the U.S. including the all-military "Top Sniper" competition in 2009. To win that competition he (and his spotter) made an 1800 yard shot on the first attempt. There are not many people in the whole world that could hit a man-sized target at 1800 yards with 1 shot.
I really tried as hard as I could to stay above the drama, and I wanted to represent THE ENTIRE US Navy with honor and integrity. It wasn't my goal to make friends, but I certainly didn't want to make enemies either. I was having fun, trying to shoot well, trying to be a stand-up guy, and make the most out of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

First off, Welcome back home!!
The 2 things you mentioned.. Honor and Integrity... are things that no uber elite school either military or civilian can teach you. You either have them or you do not and are far more valuable in my book than the ability to make a long range hit in a single shot. You, sir are remarkable as you possess both the skills and the Honor and Integrity and I am proud to have you in our ranks.
One very notable thing about the Appleseed program that you will notice is that it is not about any single person being the best shot which they can be. At the end of the day it is about how many lives you have touched and how many people you have inspired with the history you have presented them. The fact that you have planted the seed of marksmanship and given them a skill set which will help them for the rest of their lives whether they are hunting, punching paper, etc is simply a bonus. You will find plenty of criticism directed at the Appleseed methods of teaching marksmanship and plenty of opinions regarding how we should be doing things differently but our formula works as is evident by the growth we have had and the majority of the feedback we are given by students which is overwhelmingly positive. The smile on the face of a 10 year old child who just made solid hits at 100 yards with their .22 is some pretty solid positive feedback.
I am very pleased that you are part of our program and hope to see you on the trail...
Well said Jamie. And welcome back, hope all is going well with your post deployment wind down. I hope you're aware there are some upcoming shoots here in the greater San Diego area, we would love to see you at them. Maybe get you started down that path towards a red had.
I will have to look at the schedule, and I will definitely try to be at every Appleseed that I can around here. The Escondido and Dulzura shoots, I should definitely be able to make. O0
Imma keep rooting for ya man. Ya, I thought the whole George thing was outta proportion. Oh well. Question...from what you have heard, what is the best sniper school? Please, try not to be bias ;). My friend's life goal is becoming a Navy Seal, and i don't think I wanna do that. I want to be a sniper, and I'm struggling to find out which branch is the best training for snipers. Any advice? My plan so far is to go through ROTC with the Marines, take some required sniper classes in college, and then go from there. However, becoming a SEAL is not out of the question. I'm athletic enough to do it and have the will to not quit from what I start. I'm 16 btw. Anybody have any advice?
Study languages. Start with Latin, build from there. Study your History. Pay attention in Geometry and Trig. Long range shots are essentially Trig problems anyway. Learn Judo. Become an Appleseed Instructor. Stand up straight.

The standard by which ALL MILITARY SNIPERS are judged is the USMC Scout Sniper School. If you can, try to watch the Scout Sniper episode of "Surviving the Cut".
SEAL Snipers are great at what they do, but they now have their own Naval Special Warfare Sniper Course. Which, of course, you have to have already complteted BUD/S Training, and SQT, and at least 1 deployment on a SEAL Platoon before you can apply for the NSW Sniper Course. That is a very long, very difficult road to travel before you are eligible to attempt to become sniper qualified, and that is the
ONLY way to trully become a sniper in the US Navy.
If you join the Army, or the Marines, you can pick up sniper school pretty early in your career. You would have to talk to recruiters from those branches of service to find out which career fields are eligible to apply for Sniper training. Just be careful. Some recruiters will tell you anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. Try to talk to actual Sniper qualified Soldiers and Marines, if you can. The AMU (Army Marksmanship Unit) is often used as a recruiting tool, and a lot of those guys are snipers. Maybe try to contact them.
But if it was my ultimate goal to become a sniper, I would lean toward the USMC Scout Sniper School.
WELCOME HOME JAIME!! Thank you for your service. Have enjoyed watching you on Top Shot and will continue to do so. It will be an honor to meet you on the trail one of these days. Stay safe wherever life may take you! Til we meet on the trail...

I attend a Christian private school that is super tough ~~:), and everyone is required to take Latin from 4-10 grade. I also have also (somewhat) learned Spanish, and am now studying Italian for when I go to Europe over the summer. And history is my favorite subject, as those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. And I am currently taking Trig, and I am loving it. I'm a math guy. ::) Judo? you got me on that one. I don't even know what that is. also, I am looking forward to becoming an instructor, but I need to raise some more money for when I go to europe this summer, and than I will jump onboard the appleseed train. I'm 6'4", so that last one... well lets just say I like standing tall. :) thanks for the advice though. :)
Jaime, thank you for your insight. I now move ahead with more helpful knowledge thanks to you O0. God bless your efforts on Top Shot.
Watching it now,
I dont get into all the drama stuff, but it just seems like the guys that annoy me are the ones that keep sticking around.
Jay is the type of person that just irritates the living piss outta me. Talk about lack of a teachable attitude!
All well, good shootin Jaimie, that looked like fun.
I just got finished watching the latest episode and Jaime knocked Jay out. My entire family is rooting for Jaime. We like to watch the episodes "On Demand" so we can fast forward through the bull and get to the shooting. I'm glad to know that the BS is just that. Being prior military myself I hate to hear trash talk from soldiers, especially about other brothers-in-arms.
Jaime, you have all of Project Appleseed and at least one family in middle TN pulling for you. We know it's all finished, but we're still hoping to see you as the last man standing.
p.s. so this makes 3 Bass Pro cards???
This was the most entertaining episode so far.
I was surprised to learn that the contestants could drop the `f bomb' when doing the inter-segment smack talk...sorta makes me wonder whether some or all of that noise is staged by the producers. What would the upside be from alienating the entire Navy? ++)
BTW, good shooting Jamie!
Was anyone else watching Jay (the unteachable) and thinking "M1 thumb...M1 thumb..."? ;)

Strong work, Jamie. Did you get a date worked out with Scout to come on the radio show?

I noticed that but I got side tracked with a few choice phrases when Jay said "The Garand is a military rifle and I don't have easy access to military rifles." Somebody needs to get that guy a CMP catalog. Or is there a California restriction on Garands?

He was just looking for an easy excuse. The fundamentals are the same and once the clip is inserted and the first round is chambered, it does not matter what kind of rifle it is. The challenge was about aquiring NPOA rapidly and squeezing off a well aimed shot while the target was up. The fact that so many targets went down before a shot could be fired is testament of this.
M1 Garands are 100% California legal in original configuration. They do not have a detachable magazine, flash hider, pistol grip or folding stock so they are not considered evil. All they have is a bayonet lug which by itself does not make it a California defined "assault" weapon.
Jamie, I can relate... Being an ol' sailor and get around those from other services they tend to turn their noses up at the thought of a sailor being able to shoot. The only thing left to do is kick their butts! :) There is a couple on there that need their's kicked....O.L.
Jamie, you get a big thumbs up from at least one old jarhead. O0 I am glad to see you have done so well! Someone needs to get the message to the producers (I know, fat chance) that the show would be much better and more entertaining without the drama and BS. It should be about shooting not a popularity contest. I would not bother to watch if it wasn't for you being an Appleseeder. I made it through about 10 minutes of one episode of "Survivor" the first season because of the drama/bs. Anyway GOOD JOB keep at it!

MI VAShooter was a Navy shooter and is more than Double Distinguished. I have no doubt that Sailors can be very good shots (particularly after having interacted with a SEAL or two at the VA Beach Appleseeds). Jamie's shooting has been impressive, I was really impressed by the Match 1911's and the rotating targets for the shootoff I saw.
I have to agree with CSWhitfield about the drama. I really can't stand it. I generally read or do something else until the competition.
I don't have cable but someone told me that you can watch episodes at history.com. I saw the most recent two episodes over the past two evenings. All I can say is "wow", such drama. Not sure what the problem is with George, but holy smokes. I guess it makes for good TV.
I will say that George did a nice job doping the wind, learning from the prior shooters and getting a round downrange pretty quickly. Mr. Jerseyshore has a thing to learn about humility and kindness to a fellow human being though.
As for Jay, he seemed like a nice enough guy. The way the show made it seem, he really had an unteachable attitude, which is something I really dislike. Ego. But it worked for him, he lasted this long despite it (from what I hear) and really did look like he was going to outshoot Jamie during this last challenge.
I know it is too late, but I am rooting for Jamie to make it a few more weeks. If not, well it is great you lasted this long. I can see that the others in the house are gunning for you now, so it won't be won by personality!
Two things:
- You can't spell "George" without E - G - O
- I hate the idea of Jamie having to go back to that house to live with those drama queens. Yes, I know it's already a done deal, and that Jamie was safely in A-stan by the time it all aired, but still - being odd-man-out for no apparent reason is a tough spot to be in.
I keep slipping TopShot into my POIs, usually when I talk about following through. I mention that a lot has to happen before the bullet leaves the barrel, and mention the high-speed shots on TopShot so shooters can see the value of keeping the trigger held back. I always mention Jamie being an IIT, too - nice plug for our program.
BTW - how'd you like George's "I got it in one shot, I should have been the winner, even though I knew they rules going in, and two guys beat me fair and square, including the squid I hate for no apparent reason." Maybe he took a second longer getting his shot off than Jamie did because he didn't want to smudge his makeup.

In fact, the bayonet lug is not a consideration under CA law, so there is absolutely nothing about an M1 that makes it questionable under the AWB.
If Carlos Hathcock were still alive, he could tell you the importance of getting your shot off earlier than the other guy.
I won't mention why here, because the story is worth reading.

Thanks for all the continued support, guys. Appleseeders rule!
From listening to all the post-elimination interviews with Caleb Giddings on Blog Talk Radio, it seems like this issue of people not knowing what I do in the Navy was a HUGE DEAL. I never realized that it was an issue, as George was the only one who ever asked me to elaborate on my career. I wasn't intentionally hiding anything or keeping anything a secret, I just didn't know anybody gave a crap. I guess this was viewed as "shady" by the other military members in the house (although I can CONSTANTLY be seen throughout the season wearing Rescue Swimmer T-shirts in the house). If anybody had asked, I would have gladly explained myself. I'm very proud of my career, but I guess I do understand how it could be confusing because there's not 1 word or 1 sentence that can accurately summarize what I do in the Navy. For example: if I said "I'm a Diver" - people would know what that is. If I said "I'm Military Police" - people would know what that is. But I guess saying that "I'm an Operations Specialist, Rescue Swimmer, Water Survival Instructor, and I work with Explosive Ordnance Disposal" - that's not easily understood if you're not in the Navy, and it doesn't explain how or why I'm a good shooter...
But I'm still hanging in there. I can tell you that before Jay and I walked into that M1 Elimination Challenge - although we both had the desire to win - neither of us really cared all that much if we didn't have to return to that house, and that atmosphere.
Jamie, their loss.
I'm also military, Army side of the house (was Regular Army 72-83, been Army Guard since 83).
We watched the episode with George, my girlfriend laughed at him, for being an idiot after. He knew the rules before he shot, he took his time (too much time). He should go learn Carlos Hathcock's lesson on shooting through the scope. Hathcock figured the only way he could've done that was if the sniper against him was aiming at him. Hathcock said he was "just quicker on the trigger".
Jaime, the episode isnt over yet, but as far as the competition, i think that was your best work yet.
1:02...thats fast.
Tonight was a great episode. Jamie - you totally rock!!! The pressure was on and you came through like a champ. The reactions of the other five were priceless. Very classy the way you handled Ashley's trash talk, too. I don't care what happens for the rest of the series - you've proven that you're in a class by yourself. I hope to have the privilege to meet you in person on the Appleseed trail.
I have to echo the comment above by the distinguished Michigan Shoot Boss - Jamie you are a class act and a credit to Appleseed, the Navy, and your country. Regardless of the show's outcome, you are a winner!
Last night's competition was the best example of practical marksmanship so far. Four different firearms fired from unstable positions deffinitely takes chance and luck out of the equation. It is impressive that your performance was fairly equal across all four stages. Great job! I still find it interesting that they don't allow the use of a sling. I echo the comments about your exhibition of class. O0
Semper Fi
Jamie,
In my opinion the last episode exhibited the best example of marksmanship this season. Congratulations!
1:02.....Sweet
Fast and with class!
Shooting from four pitching decks?
Go Navy!
Jaime, I mirror what the others said. A class act and a good show in the challenge for sure. You definintley threw a massive wrench into their plans and their little pack feel apart real fast, and you did it without any smuggness, etc.
You were put up against the odds and knew you had to win and you went above and beyond just a simple win!
:---
Great shooting Jamie !! I am excited to see you are an Appleseeder. Keep it up , make the founders proud. I and my family are Rooting for you .
Great shooting Jamie, I told my better half, this sailor is going to kick their tails on pitching decks, and you did. Seen the promos of shooting from wires, rescue swimmers swing from wires for a living, your element! :) Good on you and give em hell from an ol' Senior Chief. You and the Gunny are the only ones with any class IMO......O.L.
That was your episode last night. Not only did you win the comp but you handled Ashley with class. I even have to give George kudo's for trying to keep it performance based. I'm pullin for ya, from a fellow navy guy, the rest of the guys looks like tough competition but I think you can win it.
For those of you, like me, that don't have cable TV but do have Internet, I present the latest episode with Jamie kicking butt:

Very nice work Jamie! Also way glad to see Ashley go and some of the other guys coming around a lil' bit.
Good show, Jamie! Now wouldn't it be cool to get yer red hat on tv? Just sayin...
Way to go Jamie! The looks on their faces were priceless.
Congratulations Jamie. You showed a lot of poise. Proud of you sir. You are a good man!
Ashly reminds of the New York Islander goalie Billy Smith. He was a sore looser and strange
personality too. You can hold your head high as the better man. I would love to shake your hand.

Congratulations on your continued success on Top Shot and for representing yourself and Appleseed in a positive manner. More importantly, thank you for answering your nations call to service in its hour of need. Your service is appreciated more than you may know.
May you find fair winds and following seas on all of your travels.
I was sure that most of the viewers saw right through Ashley and George's BS, but I had not idea how much. I followed fprintf's History Channel link, watched the last episode and went to the discussion part of the site. There may be one person in the whole country that is sticking up for George and no one for Ashley.
This may be a "teaching moment" for us Appleseeders; as the Project gets bigger and has more impact and higher visibility we need to remain rational adults and keep from bickering among ourselves.

Jamie, for those of Us who had the Opp to meet you one on one there is no question of your intergity. But thanks for the elaboration of your position. At any rate, you held your own with dignity dude! Hope to meet ya one day on the appleseed trail. If you're ever in Florida, let us know, we've got some room on the line for ya!

Jamie,
I'd like to throw my congratulations in as well. Last season was people wanting to take on shooting challenges and do their best. This season was mostly poor sportsmanship. Thank you for showing character, sticking with it, and not getting into the drama. It's like watching my 11 year old's friends on there.
Good job, sir! Hold your head high!

Latest episode.
I avoided this thread all day so I could watch the episode without spoiling it. Jamie, honestly I am totally thrilled that you made it that far, though I would be lying if I didn't admit to being really disappointed that they sent you to a 4th challenge. Nice work dude! (actually, I shouldn't say that... that sounds too much like George "JerseyShore")
Jamie, I'm disappointed, but I'm glad you got out of that house before those ladies fragged you. You distinguished yourself, you brought honor to your country and your family, and you made us proud to be fellow Appleseeders. I really hope I get a chance to shake your hand someday, and maybe shoot a few rounds with you. If you ever get up New England way, drop a note on the regional board and we'll treat you right. Remember - you'll never really know they History until you walk the ground where it happened.

Great job. You kept your head high, and went out with grace. Not much more you can ask for then that. Hope to meet you someday.

Congrats again for making it as far as you did.
I was surprised you were barely in the "Behind The Bullet" epilogue episode.
Knowing how they like to manufacture drama, I would have thought they would have at least included (again) the others talking about you or them even addressing your numerous elimination challenge appearances.
Keep up the good work and thank you for your service.
