Hey all,
Just a little heads up in the MP15-22 dept.
I have found that the chamber flag will cause the extractor to come out of your bolt IF YOU LET THE BOLT FALL OR REST ON THE FLAG (maybe just removing it carelessly ). I have two of these rifles and it will happen to both...I also have 1st gen. and 2nd gen. rifles and they both do it. It is EXTREMLY HARD to find your parts in the grass at an A.S. shoot. Don't ask me how I know and I did it twice ( wife and son )! Also Both guns do not like the "golden bullet" I'm trying others and I'll let you all know after my test.
Stay safe shoot straight have fun!

Hey,
What is the golden bullet? Is that the stuff in the green box? I've used the Federal 550 box from walmart with good results.
Thanks for the tip, I will have to try the. Chamber flag with mine. I've not noticed the problem yet.
If you're talking about Remington ammo, it's junk in all guns! Yes, I'd like to hear more as I've got my eyeball on an MP 22 at a local shop....O.L.
I really like my 15-22. I bought it "for my daughter". It works really well in that respect. It's light, has an adjustable stock, and looks cool. Who cares if Dad borrows it,too? :)
The trigger pull isn't the best, and I could see it being a source of fatigue for some. I've never shot an entire Appleseed with it. I've loaned it out for two Appleseeds with no real problems. There was one string where the little girl who was firing it said that she couldn't pull the trigger. I think she was just tired. I tried it and it worked. I do wish it was a lighter trigger. I bought a V-Tac Sling mount for the front sling mount.
Overall, I really like it. You can train just like you would with your AR, with much cheaper ammo. Let me know if you have specific questions, and I'll do my best to answer.
S&W will fix the extractor problem call them they will give you a pickup tag from FEDEX and pick it up then send it back. They will give you a chamber flag also that has a raised button in the back so the bolt face strikes the flag instead of the extractor.
I had mine loaned out they dropped it to hard on the mat hitting the bolt release dropping the bolt on AS chamber flag and the extractor goes flying. Rebel Yell found mine as I was on the other end of the line when it happened and had it fixed, before he relayed to me what happened.

Are there any "magic words" you have to say to S&W when you call, or do you just give the serial numbers and ask what parts you need? Thanks. -Cheeks
I'm on my 3rd fix from SW all you do is call them and they dropship you the papers..I have gotten a free mag each time they sent it back...But still I blow the toy gun up after 3000 rounds or 5 Appleseed's which ever comes first....But I keep shooting it ..If they are going to stand behind the rifle I'll keep passin it off to sum kid....Aim point eo-tech and glass have all been on this rifle....It just keeps on shooting...
Whew! Don't get me wrong, I love the little rifle, I bought one for the wife and one for my son and I'm going to get one too. I just wist S&W will let me "do the work" There is really nothing to it. CHEEKS: I also did not like the trigger on one of them so I just reworked that and now it's not as bad. Any ideas on how S&W will give me the parts to work on it...Heck I said give but I'll pay for them. I'll do a "custom cut" to my exsisting (sic) chamber flag... It sounds like a good Idea. IMO the S&W might be the best out there... I do know "I" don't like the Colt.... YES the full size one, but not the .22. The golden bullet is crap and now with the above post it seem everyone is having trouble with them. Still doing my test with ammo , I'll let you know.

Folks,
1) Extremely interesting posts, since we'll be, and have been, seeing more and more of these on AS lines.
2) Also interesting since (working on this @ present) S&W's instructor purchase program offers the M&P 15-22 for
$360 instead of the $569 msrp. Since I have two "on order" and expect their arrival any time, will be interesting to see if Smith has made a running change to fix this apparent and ongoing design and function problem.
3) Recommend instructors with 15-22s keep everyone up to date on function, repair, and factory response on these rifles; as I continue to contact/lobby Smith to include AS Instructors in their purchase program, will also try to work my way to someone who can definitively respond to #2 above.
Keep communicating and spreading the information for the benefit of all; instructors as well as AS participants.
No such thing as too much knowledge or information, just as there's no such thing as being too safe...

S&W won't send you the parts I already tried that. They want to repair the gun and send it back. Their number is 800-331-0852 go to customer service. give them your serial number they will send out info for a pick up from ups and send it back at no charge. They are also selling the ten round mags now.
I too polished all my parts, including hammer face and back of bolt to cut down on the drag of cycling parts it made a big difference. A guy on rimfire central is selling barrel nut wrenches and says the barrel nut will work lose and accuracy goes out the window. That might be worth looking into with all the rounds that we put through them.

I agree with nyrasgt when you call Smith tell them your with AS and you shoot a lot of rds. through your rifle. They are going to be asking who are these people? I always advertise AS with anyone in the firearms community, when they reliaze we are helping sell a lot of thier products they will come around.

S+W may just send the parts, after wanting to buy a sigma extractor that they would not sell I call them again for repair shipping instructions as directed (basically do not send USPO ) I tell the guy from service this is a lot of shipping for a 12$ 1/4 oz part, he says are you sure you can change it yourself ? I tell him yes I already had the part out to check that it was broke and put it back together to send in. He says ok I will send the part, 4 days later the part comes, I take the sigma out of the prepared shipping box, break it down and swap the part no problem, so the part they could not sell me could just be sent by dealing with the right person in repairs.
FYI,
Just received, today, name of S&W contact person for Instructor Sales (discount) Program; will be approaching him to recognize AS Instructors as Ruger and Henry already do.
Suggest other forum members post specific, individual contacts at, e.g. S&W, for help with maintenance/repari/parts-type issues. Pays to have a specific name...and extension number.

I am running a second gen rifle (threaded version) and have roughly 3k rounds through it with no extractor issues, but am having a bolt hold open issue. The problem keeps the regular bolt release from dropping the bolt, but the charging handle works fine. It seems the bolt rides just a bit forward and hangs. I have not fixed it because I am spending too much time shooting it.
My primary setup is subsonic with an Outback II suppressor (the can actually ups the reliability a bit). I need to get a pair of the new factory mags though.
Fun rifle and perfect for my kids & students.
TRS et. al.,
Be advised S&W 15-22 fact mags (25s or 10s) are $20.04 direct from them (ordered addl 6 with the 2 rifles ordered via S&W Instructor Purchase...
Might be others, cheaper, but not factory...don't know if worth saving a buck or two...
