I belong to this forum but seldom visit it these days.  Lots of good info there.  Just remember that every rifle is different and the bullet  & powder type/load that someone else recommends may not shoot as well in rifle - so you get to develop loads for your rifle.

I've shot a few through my M1917 Eddystone but I've not really spent time developing a load.  I used IMR 4895 for those first few but intended to use IMR 4831 later.

Should be great stuff for 25 meter practice AQTs and when it comes right down to it should be okay for other uses (if I lived where rifles were legal for deer hunting I'd try the lead bullets for that once I had a good load worked up).  Bullets were lead (perhaps a larger caliber  ;)) before they were jacketed.

OD, I agree, lead bullets are WAY under rated in what they can do. I shoot them out of my AR which a lot of folks say you can't do! BS!.....

Jimi, you've got a great source of lead bullets here in Roswell, figure out what you want and I'll see what he has/makes. He's usually at least 25% less expensive than anyone on the net, plus no shipping. I've got 100 in 180gr, GCFP, sized .309 if you want to try them....O.L.

Hello All; I would be willing to bet they are hard cast ALLOY bullets made of 90% lead, 5% tin & 5% antimony Also known as Lyman #2 alloy.. Quite a bit harder than pure lead. Can be loaded to give great results in most rifles or pistols...  Very under rated when it comes to what can be done with these. Well I need to get back to the furnace. Pappy

30-06 is one caliber I've never owned or shot, but I know you can shoot cast bullets at full power without leading once you find what your rifle likes, and learn a bit of the alchemy that is involved. I've shot many a load over 2,000 fps, it's not that hard to do. I did it all the time, at least until this Appleseed thing came up and took over my life  ;)

I can second the Cast Boolits list. Also you should really check out the below Yahoo Group. We have been publishing a book of all the tips and tricks serious cast bullet shooters use, and know. If you don't want to buy the book, the source files are available free on the website.

WARNING, the cast Boolits group has an issue with the editor of the Cast Bullet Book, best not mention Yahoo Group on the forum.

I would also highly recommend you join the CBA if you get serious about cast bullets,

A very knowledgeable group of folks.

O.L.,
What's the heaviest cast .30 cal bullet offered by that fellow?  I'd like his contact info if he has some 240 gr.
Thanks,
Scott

I've had very good success with a 185 gr cast bullet over 16 gr of 2400 powder and a LR magnum primer.  This is through an 03A3 Springfield.  It also works with 200 gr bullets, but may work better with 17 gr of 2400.   Velocity is in the 1500 ft/sec range, give or take 100.  It's good to 200 yards, and really cheap to shoot.

Note: DO NOT use a filler with this load.  It's not at all necessary, may increase pressure, and will decrease accuracy.

BTW, got that load off of the castboolit site mentioned by another poster.
