I know the auto-bolt release is probably about the easiest mod to do to a 10/22 rifle, and a lot of you have undoubtedly already done this, but for some reason I have always been hesitant to start grinding on my gun. I was afraid I'd screw it up, I guess. Finally got "over it" tonight in advance of an Appleseed this weekend; at the last one I worked, someone was having trouble with my loaner's factory bolt release. So tonight I got out the Dremel tool.
Guys, if you haven't done this modification to your 10/22 yet, DO IT NOW. It took me all of 15 minutes, and that was only because I spent about 5 looking for a pin I had misplaced, and another 5 fine-tuning my grinding after testing it once. IT IS EASY. I used this video from Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl2n7V0-ac4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl2n7V0-ac4) as an instructional, and it really doesn't take but 5 minutes to do the work on your rifle.
Best mod you can make to your 10/22 after the Tech-Sights, and doesn't cost a thing if you have a Dremel tool. Just make sure you keep up with the pins you take out of the trigger group! ;D
Yay...glad it's done and you are confidant in the modification. Dremel works great...I did mine with a small file. Which, by the way is a bit tedious, but about 10 minutes work.
Rimfirecentral has a stickie on the same mod.

Also alot more information on 10/22s and other makes.
Yep, I've done about a dozen of them. Easy to do and works great!....O.L.
