Title: Moving to MN, need to get rifleman!
Post by: savaship on November 23, 2010, 12:50:31 AM
Hi everybody,
I am moving to Minnesota to escape the oppression and tyranny that defines Illinois.   I'm coming from a state that has a constitution that reads "except for police power (police power means the general assembly), the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." -[Article 1 section 22] and the general assembly has a law that states if you bear arms you are guilty of "aggravated unlawful use of a weapon" -[720 ILCS 5/24.1], which is a felony.  A conviction would strip a person of their right to bear arms in every state.   So to escape, I bought 40 acres in a state that has decent (but not great) firearm laws, and I'm hoping to earn rifleman status at some upcoming appleseed in Minnesota!   Keep 'em coming, I'll be in Backus, I think Hinkley is the closest you've come to there, and I'll be training all winter so I'll try for spring!

Welcome, savaship!

Plenty of opportunities here:

Hinckley 11/27-28
La Crosse, WI 12/4-5 & 3/5-6/2011
Rochester 4/16-17/2011
And Winona and Marshall and Gordon, WI and ...  O0

And don't forget to dryfire.

Much like you savaship, I yearned for the day I could escape the confines of Cook (aka Crook) county IL. Finally pulled it off this past July and landed in far northwest WI about an hour east of Hinckley. Hope to see you there this weekend.

While I don't know for sure that our laws are any better; we're glad to have you here!
We'll keep 'em coming as long as future Riflemen keep a coming!

See you on the Trail!

Oh Aftermath, if only you knew how much better MN laws are than Illinois'!  Listen to Taylor, an Illinesian refugee!   If you drove through Illinois in a pickup truck and you're from Minnesota, and you have an unloaded rifle in the case in the back, if you are stopped, you will be arrested for a felony violation, even if you don't even have any ammunition.  Illinois seems to hate guns, while Minnesota just seems mildly pensive about it.   I can't wait to practice up, and go for another appleseed though!    See about getting one for Hinkley in the spring if you can!

Dryfiring until I move... then I can live fire!   Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forums savaship! And welcome to MN.

The dry firing was key for me. At my first AS, poor Sven was beside himself reminding me to stop dragging wood. There was just too much to remember and fix that weekend. As I did my dry fire practice between shoots, that bad habit went away.

Welcome! Heard you on Appleseed Radio.  It is great that you are able to get 40 acres, I am working on that.
Hope you are able to set up your own 25m range at some point.
