Title: Texas - Midland - Nov 20-21, 2010
Post by: scuzzy on November 22, 2010, 09:47:07 PM
What a great shoot all around.

Weather: Nice, about 80 degrees and sunny on Saturday. Sunday about 80 with the wind picking up on Sunday.

Shooters: 18 on Sat, 12 returning on Sun. 3 patches given. Best part was one of those took the Orange.

Range: Dang, now that's a shooting range! You'd have to see it since I can't adequately describe it.

The local CBS7 newscrew was there on Saturday. They ran the piece on TV Sat night. I haven't seen it but was told it was very positive and portrayed AS in a good light. There is an article on their website but it's not very long: http://cbs7.com/news/details.asp?ID=22556 (http://cbs7.com/news/details.asp?ID=22556)

Reddot hit it off with the Range Directors. They really liked what they saw this weekend. It looks like we'll be getting more shoots going there in the future. Right now the range only hosts about 2 shoots per year. We just added an extra one for 2011 already with more to come likely. The range is a bit worried about us being able to staff it at this point. They have been assured that if there is an event that we will come. And we will.

Met lots of good people there. Saw tons of improvement in the shooting. Heck, three patches out of 18 people is really good as far as percentages go. And Sunday the last Redcoat saw huge improvements we several people cleaning them, and others just missing but one or two shots.

I had the priviledge of working the Reddot, wcmartin1, RainmanJS, and Jimi.

Jimi came down all the way from New Mexico to help with the shoot. It was nice meeting him and he is a credit to his state. Tell SamD hello for me Jimi.

I also met Bill for the first time. He is hardcore Appleseed. I'll be seeing you next time Bill. You get that line filled and Appleseed will come.

Also met John, another 'seeder, who helps run the gun club which allowed us to put this shoot on. Thanks bunches. I'll see you again too soon.

Jesse did the SB thing with Reddot overseeing him. He's has really come a long way and fast. He gave me some good info which I'll be using in the future myself. He did a presentation about sling tension that was excellent. I'd never seen it presented that way. Chuck and I talked about that on the way back home. It is now in our playbook.

Our instructor dinner was attended by some of the big shots from the range. As said they liked what they saw and everybody hit it off. We ate Mexican food, which is perfect. Everybody in the crew is in agreement on that. There never seems to be any problem figuring out what we'll have. Heck, I can eat it just about everyday and be happy.

As an added treat at the end of the Appleseed after everbody had packed up John pulled out an M1919 for us to play with. Bill provided quite a bit of 308 for the 1919 to munch on. It was a blast. You should have seen the ear to ear grins on the instructors faces.

Ain't no place like Texas.

Thanks, Scuzzy,

Great shoot this weekend, y'all!

Nice weather, quality instruction, much improvement on the line, three patches, one orange hat, favorable news coverage, and many inspired Americans who said they will be back with some friends.

Success!

Y'all come back and I'll fill the line for you next time.

In regards to the 7.62 ammo to feed the M1919 - I will usually buy a meal for the instructors out of appreciation for your sacrifice, but y'all wouldn't take me up on it so I supplied some ammo instead.  :---

The grins were contagious.  :~

Thanks again everybody and special thanks to Fred and Scout for your continued steadfast leadership - Like a rock, by God!

Sounds like DoubleLL and I should put Midland on our schedule sometime next year!  It's always great to work with a range that "gets" us.

Forgot to mention that one of the Rifleman scores was achieved with a lever action, tube fed, Marlin 39A.

It was a joy to watch how smooth he worked the lever while maintaining good fundamentals and a Rifleman's cadence - impressive.

I'm a bit slow getting on here, but yes, what an INCREDIBLE weekend!!  A fantastic range, quality Appleseeders (aren't they all?) a great Texas crew, augmented by one of New Mexico's finest, and attended by a friend in the media.  Three brand new riflemen and a new orange hat...congrats to Bo, Chuck and Ron--and Ron, a lever action, tube fed rifle with buckhorn sights--that's how it's done my friend.  And Frank's a new orange hat--we need all the good men (and women!) we can get for instructors!!
A very special thank you to John and Bill, our local "boots on the ground" crew--y'all could not have been any more gracious or hospitable, you made the weekend a joy for everyone.
Couldn't have asked for any more.  Perfect weather, a perfect weekend--I hope all the attendees had as much fun as I did.
I'm very much looking forward to coming back to Midland--I'd like to move across the street from the range!
We'll be back in February, that is unless we can set something up sooner ;D
Anybody that can't wait that long is welcome in San Angelo--we'll be there in about 3 weeks.

Late on getting in on the thread.Yep, it was a great shoot, and I thouroughly enjoyed working with the Texas crew. Was late getting in here to home in NM, and had to recoup a bit, but up and at em now. For those itching for another shoot we have Roswell NM coming up next weekend, the 4th and 5th. I personally look forward to the opportunity to come back to Midland and help with another shoot there. Maybe I can drag a few more folks out of the woodwork for it.

Thanks again to Chuck and all for allowing me to help out.

This is Bo.  My son and I got our patches that weekend.  The instructors were first rate.  Thank all of you for giving your time and money to further the Appleseed Project.  America is great because of people like you.  I hope to see all of you again at the next Appleseed in Midland.

I have attached pictures of myself and my son.  I don't have a picture of Ron getting his patch.  If someone has one please post it up.

A BIG THANKS to all of the instructors.
