Title: AAR Santa Barbara Ca. 11-6 to 11-7 2010

Well,

It was a foggy one, opening Saturday it was a little tough getting shots off in a timely manner because we could not see the backers. A tough drive getting up to the range also in the fog. I think there were some spots on the road where I could only see as far as the hood of my car.

BUT, as usual, the hearty crowd from this sunshine community made an excellent showing and toughed out the cold, wet, fog for a weekend that ended up being an excellent Appleseed.

20 shooters were present on Saturday and 15 on Sunday.

We had lots of youngsters,

Keely and Abby, Brian, Cade and Cole all stuck it out to the end. They shot excellent the entire time.

There were several repeat Appleseeders, including Robbie and Mr. Hu, who brought his dad Mr. Hu. James Y. also a repeat A.S. from UCSB was shooting extremely well, and just shy of a rifleman score.

The James Family had a very strong presence with 6-family members.

The only center fire on the line for the duration of the event was Eric with his AR. Eric, being his first AS shot most excellent and by the end of Sunday was in the 190 ish. One more AS and I think he will be there.

Shrek and Bob, came up from LA area for the weekend and were also extremely close on the AQT.

I think there were 2 or three front sights that fell off during this event, which is more than I am used to seeing. This was a set back for some of the shooters.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with the perseverance of the shooters in the cold, wet, miserable fog. It was very difficult a lot of the time to see the targets clearly.

Was the target talking to them?, i.e., was there horizontal stringing prior to the front sights falling off?  (top right target shown on FRED'S yellow sheet TARGET ANALYSIS)

Yes the targets talked....no matter how much the sights were adjusted to make the POI go to the left, the shots were always to the right.

The targets were not talking. They were yelling.

The pictures don't do the fog any justice. You could not see the backer from 15 feet away. It was 10:30 before we could see them at 25 yards and then only when it cleared. However it was still a well run shoot, that was not far behind by the end of the day, thanks to Jacques thinking on his feet and rearranging instruction to fit the clearing of the fog! Well done all the way around.
