I'm a rifleman that received my patch from Scouts crew here in Texas, just back in May. Prior to that, I had not done any structured shooting. A few weeks ago I went out to TacPro http://www.tacproshootingcenter.com/ to see if I could qualify on their 1000 yard range, applying what Iv learned @ AS on my favorite rifle, a stock 08 SAI "Loaded" M1A (.308).
The weather; 68 deg, very low humidity, wind at our 6 10-15 and mostly cloudy.
The target; 24" steel plate.
The rifle and load; 08 SAI "loaded" M1A in a non-bedded used Freds Big Walnut stock O0 and a hooded rear sight. My hand loads are 175 SMK in New Nosler brass, IMR4895 @ 41.5 and 2.800 COL. I was shooting prone w/mat, jacket, hoodie, sling, glove and clear safety glasses (no bi-pod).
The other four shooters came with heavily scoped and bi-poded Accuracy Internationals in 243 and 338 and one with an AI (M24) in 308. I was the loan shooter with a M1A and just irons ???
They had us shoot a 3 moa or less @ 100 yards to start and as we all did that with no problem, we went right on to 1k.
I came up 33 from my 200 yrd zero (40 total from the bottom) keeping my wind @ zero, was instructed to "send it when ready," re-checked my NPOA (tiny white spec on the top of my front post), and at the bottom of my respritory pause, squeezed. I followed through and keeping my my eyes on the target, took a mental snap-shot then heard "hit" from the RO ^:)^

Since the wind was at our six we couldn't hear the hits however misses were validated by splashes of dirt and hits could be seen as black-splats on the white painted plate (with the Kowa spotting scope). I sent three more which all went just high (shadows and light kept shifting), dialed two clicks back down and got two more hits.
The other 308 shooter and I stayed after it, after the qualification session was done, and put more lead on that plate. I am convinced that this was totally a result of applying "the six steps of firing the shot" (and a real tight sling).
Thank you Appleseed
Yep, it works.
It's a good feeling to pit yourself and your rifle against a 2.4 MOA target at 1000 yards and succeed, isn't it?
Congratulations! Have you thought about taking on an Orange Hat and helping with Appleseed?
Mike
yes and yes (recieved my Orange Hat @ the Atlanta TX) O0

Congrats! How many funny looks did you get and how many times did you have to answer 'What scope are you shooting?'.
Iron Sights? :o
Yep. ;D
Congrats again! O0
It's a terrific feeling when you can hit at that kind of distance with a rifle isn't it M4FNG? Let alone with iron sights.
No expensive custom made "varmit" rifle, no two thousand dollar scope, just a M1A and a person that knows how to use it.
That is beautiful.
There's a Rifleman.
Congrats M4FNG, your shooting is very impressive.
Keep up the strong work AND teach others your skill.
Brett out.
This is such exciting news for you to have shared with us. Thanks ever so much and CONGRATULATIONS by the way!!
Well done good sir. O0 O0 O0
FYI for those intested in the latest, here is an interesting comp/flash arrestor for your information. Certainly it will
assist with rapid followup shots, no doubt about it. Especially for those of us who shoot .308 cal.
This company was refered to me 'Ashes' a fellow instructor here in Illinois who is most uptodate on things like this.
Now many in illinois know well the effects of my SCORE HIGH Muzzle brake. It is effective but what appeals to me
so much about this BATTLECOMP is that it does not blow people away that are next to you. When you see the
videos you will see the value of this new compensator. Yeah, it is pricey but you get what you pay for.
I paid nearly that much for my SCORE HIGH TACTICLE BOLT muzzle brake and Score High did a beautiful job
making my SS .338 barrel look like the brake was contiguous. But this new comp looks like it will perform
the rapid recoil recovery so desired.

This gallery is dedicated to their very satisfied customers, who felt compelled to display their enhanced skills with the BattleComp.
While hardware can never replace software, the BattleComp is one of the few true tactical devices, which can make an average shooter better and a good shooter -- great.
"If the BattleComp doesn't make you smile the first time you run it, they affirm that they will buy it back."

Best regards,
Castle Mountain
at least four dropped jaws and a couple "you're kidding me's" and "how the heck can you even see that", etc :o
Don't get me wrong, at some point I will have a dedicated sniper rifle with a high-end scope, I just want to get not only real good but real consistant with just the steel-n-wood before I take that next path.
This hole just keeps gettin deeper and deeper, can't-put-shovel-down ++) Seriously, this is just too much fun and it's all because of AS (you folks) O0

Yeah, it does and Yes, it is. But, maybe we just planted the SEED. Thanks for taking the SEED and growing it.
You have become part of the spirit of Appleseed.
See you on the trail ... again, and again.

Hey M4FNG!!! I think we were next to each other in the pits on Viale at Perry during the M1A match. Congrats shooting the 1K! It is a blast with Irons, Scopes are fun but Irons rock!
Just found the topic. Man that sounds like fun!
