SAC VALLEY 10/10
"Greasy smooth, WD-40 in Action"
Fall finally fell here at Sac Valley for our Appleseed Oct 16-17-2010
The days of broiling in the relentless sun finally gave way to mid 80's with fluffy clouds. Yay! ^:)^
We had a great line of 33 shooters this weekend. And I was tickled pink ( pun intended ) that 8 of those were LADIES Kellie, Erica, Missy, Gloria, Kajsa, Katrina, Dayna, and Lynda, you made my weekend.
BD and I were two red hats in a mighty sea of Orange ; the line was smooth as silk and made Appleseed oh so proud. My manly men: Nukechaser, 3 Huzzahs, Polygunner, Pinbreaker, Hambone, and our fearless leader BaldDragn rocked it in instruction and heritage. My determined dames 30 Cal Sleeper and Ginger, girlfriends, I would be proud to work shoulder to shoulder with you anytime!
Our IIT's went over and above; 30 Cal Sleeper brought excellent visual teaching props for 6 steps of firing the shot, and Nukechaser broke out his Massachusetts legal AR lower to demo the sound of trigger reset.
Although the morning was a bit poky, we picked up the pace by the time we broke for lunch. The heritage had the shooters riveted, and there were several in tears. "To remember is to honor" had the folks nodding and using their napkins to wipe their eyes.
On the Saturday morning Redcoat we had the majority of shooters hitting the 100 yard mark, with six not even on paper. That really changed up in the Sat evening Redcoat, where 6 hit the 400 yd, 4 hit the 300, 5 hit the 200, 5 in the 100, 8 Head shots, and 5 cleared the Redcoat! Wahoo!
By Saturday evening Jeff ( who shot Rifleman last month ) came in again with a 212 with his M1A, and our Davis returnee Kirk shot a 224. And Mike, who came with son Christian shot not one, but two qualifying AQT's with his bolt action .22. He's a member of our range here at Sac Valley and shoots Palma. I had a great time talking with his girlfriend Kajsa; she appreciated that we had female instructors, as she lives, she said, with "Mr. Gun Man." ;)
Sunday dawned cooler with a wee bit of sprinkles. Our Instructors did their best review, and then it was on to a day of AQT's. The sky broke open about 11am and the rain, well, rained down on us. 30 Cal told Hambone that a "hot beverage" would be a great spirit lifter for our students. Within 15 minutes we had the students under the cover sipping hot coffee, hot chocolate, and herbal tea. Another AQT and we broke for lunch. The rain on the metal covers during lunch gave us a bit of a challenge in the ability to do our heritage loud enough to overcome it. Again, our Instructors did an awesome job.
We thought that after lunch some of the shooters would pack it in and head home due to the rain, but they didn't! O0 They were unstoppable. We were able to move all the shooters under cover by the time the rain really let loose.
By the end of the day Sunday, Kellie ( Mike's aka Polygunner) sister shot a 225! She must be genetically predisposed to Rifleman. :cool2:
The final Redcoat was shot, Kellie's patch was presented, and the benediction made.
To my IIT's: thank you for all your suggestions, hustle and shuffling to make the shooters comfortable and successful. You are well loved.
To my husband: you drive a mean bargain sir. I know you made me work my tush off for this Greenie. It was hard, I cried a lot, and it makes it all that more precious to me. I hope to continue to be part of the Solution to this world, no longer part of the Problem. They have a saying in Hebrew, Tikun Olam, making this world a better place. Thank you to those I have met, worked with, chatted to in Appleseed. All of us are demonstrating Tikun Olam.
Much love,
Jules
SAC VALLEY CA 10-10! ..:..
Thanks for another great shoot! Even in the rain and mud it was great. I'm hoping to come back next month, only next time I want that patch!!!
;D
It was a great weekend. The instructors were all all top notch. I especially enjoyed all of the presentations and the hands on support given on the line!
I was worried about coming down to CA for a shooting even, all my fears were put to rest once the event started!
You guys run a tight ship!

Thanks for posting your photos.
They really liven up the AAR.
