Title: Piru CA RBC October 10-16, 2010
Post by: Dano on October 18, 2010, 11:48:19 PM
Well what can you say another perfect week for an RBC. in Piru, weather was great throughout the week. Temperature never went over 95°. We made three Riflemen, Kevin and Zot and Texas Tim. Congratulations! Kevin's 210' was rewarded with a little North Bridge water. The weeks practice on the KD was great.  KD brought out the California Instructor crew with, Laylo Pro, Camljr, Justin, Texas Tim, Freeman, Artkat2, CSHR qualify at the KD course with great scores. It was a busy day. If I missed anyone else who qualified let Bob 210 and myself know.

2x4 shoot won by the right side of the line!

We had four new inductees to the Piru 1000 Yard Club. Zot, Cowgirl Ducky, Freeman and Texas Tim, Zot, joins Dano in the even more exclusive .223 at 1000 Yard Club. Zot however did it off hand. Impressive even if it took all his spare time and lots of ammo. Members from last years RBC Piru 909 were Dano, ArtKat2, and Jacques.
We had Kevin, and Zot take up the Orange Hat as well.

Thanks to JB for all his work getting the training done and keeping the crew entertained with RSO courses and Rifle Maintenance classes. All Potato Salad was banned from Piru for the week. Thanks also to Xeyed who came from Las Vegas to help instruct, it was pleasure having you at the event.

Ahem, yes.....there were, shall we say, "several", who seemed to forget the old adage out here that "Crack Kills"....... #) **) **) **) **) :P

But for what little part of it we (CSHR & I) saw on Thursday, it was a rather well squared away crew.....so we did our best to "ignore" those clothing breakouts of protocol.......

Worth the drive, we so seldom get a chance to bring out "larger caliber stuff.....and I think they had been kind of missing us on the range as well....... ::) :cool2:

Great folks, good times......I doubt it truly will get much better than this.....

Anybody interested in a 1K club patch?  I may be able to get some custom made.  Here's a starting idea - let me know what you want changed?

Zot, I like option two it looks great! I would also think it should be subdued.

As for the North Bridge water this was my brother from Florida who came out to try and become a Rifleman. He shot a 210 and backed it up with a 232. The temperature that day was 95°. Most folks dont get this much water, but he was my brother!

I dig the bucket of North Bridge water!  We in CA need to step it up as we use a wimpy little water bottle (yes, we do recycle afterwards).   :)

I think I speak for everyone involved in offering a heart-felt thank you to both JB and Dano (as well as all the other instructors who showed up throughout the week) for giving up their time and providing such great instruction. I can't remember the last time I've had such an amazing week. Each Appleseed further reinforces my belief that the AS folks are some of the best around.

I am kind of in line with thinking that 3rd choice in 1K patch looks like it would go well on my "awards jacket".......
Have we set criteria yet?? Y'mean I have to drive all the way back out there -again-!!@!!@!! %) **) **) **) :~ :~ :~ :~

To shoot?!?!?

Geez...... :( ^-^

Well done, all.....another stellar bunch of folks learning it the right way......

Here is another vote for patch option 3.

It was a privilege to be able to spend a couple of days at the RBC. Seeing some familiar faces, some new ones and getting some trigger time.

Thanks to all the local hosts and JB for sharing their hospitality and knowledge.

It is always a pleasure to spend time in the company of Riflemen.

Hopefully Mr. Murphy will behave better next time so I can spend the entire week there.

X

Put me down for an OD patch.

...We really have to wait a whole year to do this again?

OK - looks like the patch design is a go.

How many do we need?  The best price break seems to be around 200 (12 costs 1/2 the cost of 200!)- how many do you think we will give out a year?

I"m thinking a 1 1/2 inch patch is subtle, but still easy to read and recognize.

Talk about drinking from the firehose...my first Appleseed experience and I can't wait to get back out there.  Next time I hope I'll get more than 4 out of 8 days.

Dano, JB and everybody at the RBC impressed me so much that I hit 210 on Sat and on Sun picked up an Orange Hat.

I'm disappointed that I missed KD and the rest, but as I tell my daughter, "You get what you get and don't throw a fit".  I am happy to have met you all and hope to see everyone again.

Murphy conspired against me but persistence is the take-away.

-Peter

ps.  I'll pre-pay an OD patch for when I earn the right to wear it.

Really like the OD patch.

But I'm torn.

I know that the new patch would bring out the competitive nature of our instructor corps. And a 1K patch would become a badge of honor among the instructor corps.

I'm torn because, I have a sense that this competition, while fun would not be on mission.

But that said, I'll take few shots at the 1k gong, the next time I'm at Piru.

P.s. Watching you hit  the 1k gong with a .223 shooting standing was amazing. It will be a story that I will tell others.

Greetings....

MISTER Pete.

Well met, and watered are we.

LOL.
Yep.
That's my job- water dude.

Seriously, for the life of me I can't decide if JB keeps adding stuff to his lecture blocks, or if ADD has afflicted my getting it before, but....

Man that dude can teach teachers.
And the ears it fell on were especially sharp and attentive, and that is a joy to see.

I can go through the roll call, and leave some one out, or I can just give you a snap shot or two:

we had a rotating mix of senior instructors, IIT's, new red hats, old friends of the program, and of course the attendees of the Apple seed that followed.

And What I saw.....
it was very good.
All of you- the class of Piru Ten Cube, to a man (and cowgirl) have buckets of the 'right stuff'.

It gets me fired up when I hear a green green green IIT deliver the steady hold factors with the certainty and precision of someone who had done it at fifty shoots in front of hundreds of people. Thats a gift.

I can name names, but suffice to say there is plenty to be hopeful for from this crop.

Special thanks to dano for luring Kevin out here with the promise of free ammo and all the fresca he could drink. What a treat to watch you two do the brother thing.

And to see the shoot go off without a hitch.
On time and to the point!

And so, as we say in the trades:
"The impossible, once performed, becomes SOP".
:cool2:

okey.
coffee breaks over......

I didn't need any more reasons other than meeting all you So Cal instructors and camaraderie but the 1000 yd club is yet another reason.
I'll keep an eye out for any announcements of future gatherings.

Patches should be at my house by 11/8.  ended up with 2" patch; I'll post the digital design when I get it from the patchmaker for any final edits/comments/changes.  So - How do I get these out to people?

Dano - are the 1K shoots only at IBC/RBC? Should I send you a couple dozen to distribute?

Does anybody know where I can get a 3X shooting jacket so I can display MY patches?

Should the patch posts get it's own thread?

Thanks,

Zot

Question.

How big was the 1000 yard gong?

I never looked.

I just remember watching Zot and others throwing jovian thunderbolts up the valley.

XEyed,

From my understanding, it was 30". Just 3 MOA, no big deal.  ;) I'm sure you shoot tighter groups than that often enough.
