Just found these and got 500 of them ...Armscorp 62 grain FMJBT .224 cal boolits ( ;D )
Anyone used these? I thought they would be a change from 55g FMJ's .
Loading with H 335 and CCI primers to mag length.
not with that brand
Please report back on groups vs. the 55 fmj bullets
I tried a few 62 grain FMJ (GI surplus) earlier in the summer and groups, compared to the 55 grn. FMJ were pretty disappointing. And a different POI as well, even at 25 yds.
First time I have seen them at my reloading outlet. I thought a 62 grain pill coulld be worth trying. He (Gunstop) was out of the 69 SMK's but I got some 68g Hornady's to try. Worth a shot...no pun intended.
He also says that primers and powder are getting easier to acquire...but now brass and bullets are tough. Go figure !
Thanks....I hope to have a report on these soon.
BTW...I find the 69 SMK's do the same for my groups. Never have gone wrong with the "Green box" O0
I have used the 62gr Armscorp bullets for reloading and they shot 3-4 MOA for me over a load of Reloader 15. I used them for plinking and CQB work and they worked fine for that. I never did try to do anything serious at distance with them though.
Correction: The bullets I used were the ones from Wideners mentioned below. I was under the impression they were the Armscorp ones. Sorry for the mistake.
If you want some good, cheap bullets, buy these in quantity. I shoot the 145 gr 308's out of my LRB M14, FALs, and M1 Garand with good results. Not sure how well they group but they're good enough to hit Rams out to 547 yards 80+% of the time shooting prone (with M1 & M14, FAL sights not so good).
I buy them 2000 at a time. Pretty sure Wideners has a custom swager making them.

I've never heard anything good about Armscorp bullets. Have heard a fair bit of bad stuff about their quality control though.

Are you talking about the Armscorp bullets? Or the wideners?
Wideners link was to 3 different styles 308 bullets, 4 different styles 223 bullets.
What does "worth going with" mean?

I was talking about the armscor 62 gr, never found a load to better than 4 - 5 moa 10 rd group out of an AR that does 2 - 2 1/2 moa with 55 gr hornady bulk bullets and cheap ramshot x-terminator powder, was looking for a reasonable $ heavier bullet reload for KD AQT but for now just use the 55 gr. When I find a load worth going with I load to the limit of the components I have, hopefully at least a thousand, usually means I run out of brass
been shooting them over Tac 26.0grs = MOA or less out of every 9 twist i own. CCI 400 primers.
Sure hope CCI 400's work. I got 2 cases of 'em awhile ago from someone getting out of reloading. Price was what he paid for 'em. O0
"been shooting them over Tac 26.0grs = MOA or less out of every 9 twist i own. CCI 400 primers."
I haven't played with those specific bullets but I have used bullets that with any given powder would not shoot, switch to a different powder and bingo, sub-moa groups.
"Sure hope CCI 400's work." My experience with CCI 400's is they will flatten at the lowest starting loads in a .223. Had to go to CCI 450's. The 400's have a .020" thick cup, the 450's have a .025". Probably not a big deal, you just can't use the primers as a pressure indication...O.L.
Edit..Here is a link that be useful someday! :)...O.L. http://www.jamescalhoon.com/primers_and_pressure.php
Lots of other things to look at for pressure signs than flattened primers. I never load max anyway...start low and work up till grooups shrink and then open up again. Back off to best group load. It never is near max anyway. Have foound this in durn near all ( in fact ALL ) my rifles.
I will probably save my mag primers for the winter, 400's will be fine.
Just gotta find time to shoot. :P
after nemohunters post I decided to revisit the box of 62gr armscorp, found out almost for sure why at least my batch is grouping poorly - the weights are strung way out -from 61.7 gr to 62.8, fairly evenly distributed at 61.9 through 62.6. With Wisconsin doing distance to 600 it is just to much to ask from the 55 gr and a 10 twist is to slow for 69 gr so after sorting I will try these again with TAC, if they do not work for me this time I will have 800 for sale
