We could not have asked for better weather this weekend.
Cool with a slight breeze, Cloudy in the mornings, sunny in the afternoon.
We had just over 20 shooters on the line. Most were new shooters with a few who had just purchased new rifles.
In fact one of these was Ann. She shot a 202 and had only been shooting twice before. Way to go Ann!
We had several people sooting 180-200 range.
We saw dramatic improvement from redcoat to redcoat.
Shooters, when you come out with a teachable attitude, you make my job easy. Thank you, all of you.
OG and Rhonda came up from Ok to spend the day Saturday with us. What a suprise! This was good for me as I was able to get on the line with the students alot more that I have been lately. Thanks OG. Once again you inspire us.
We had several young shooters come out. I almost ran out of Patches for them. They all did great. Toby was impressive as he was shooting a single shot, bolt action. He would shoot standing/sitting and hold the rounds in his teeth and was getting his shots in under time.
I need to mention Randy (who was down on the east end). Randy brought several family members, most of them youth. This is not the first time he has done this. A tip of the boonie cap to you sir. You are the embodiment of the spirit of the Sons of Liberty. Now if I can just convince you to shoot.
Mr Chambers was kind enough to bring out some flintlock equipment and a rifle. Gpbbiker gave a demo.
Joe Rankin, our generous benefactor, thank you so much for providing us a place to shoot and all you for us and the AS program. I hope you know how much you are appreciated.
Thanks to all the instrcutors who helped ou this weekend: OG, JollyBFD, ksuguy, Caveatimptor, Gpbbiker, DLM50Cal
And lastly to Ray, a 4yo who knew the safety rules and echoed the proper commands, thanks buddy. I hope your dad brings you out again soon.
I know several of you have pictures. Please share them and you stories by posting a reply to this thread.

Yes, Ray was a very upset little boy when it came time to leave, asleep within six miles, and still very sad that he had to go home when he woke up. Thank you all for your encouragement and help in instilling a love of marksmanship and history in a little boy.
We had a good turnout, and a lot of the students expressed positive feedback and a desire to return. No new riflemen, but we did see a lot of improvement and a few people that were very close to qualifying. I expect we will see some of them in Eureka in October.
Man, I wish I could have been up there on the line with you guys in this beautiful weather! I was at home packing -- I'm moving this week.
Lots of kids and folks who are new to shooting -- that is great. We won't be accomplishing much if we only get old gun guys out on the line. It is good to see the Kansas instructor corps expanding, too.
I'll see you all soon!
Hey all.
][rishman- when can we expect to see some pictures from the weekend? I would love to see them.
As with last year, my Dad and I had an absolute blast. Both figuratively and literally.
Looking forward to more appleseeds in the future. There is one here in Pittsburg KS in a couple of weeks. Maybe able to come and check it out.
Thanks to all there for being as kind and helpful as always. And of course a HUGE thanks goes to Joe the range owner. He is a man of noble character and an unusually kind spirit. A true patriot.
Love that beautiful Kansas weather! Wish I could have been there....whittled on my "to-do" list some this weekend, though. Sounds like you had a good bunch!
Hi everyone!
Tyler and I had a great weekend in Oxford! A huge thank you to all of the instructors (who have TONS of patience) who really helped us learn so much in such a short amount of time. More thanks if you let us borrow firearms and/or gave us ammo... it made a huge difference for us! I thought it was such a great experience, and I can't wait to get to my next shoot!
I was really impressed by the emphasis on safety. I didn't know what to expect, and I wondered how safe it was going to be. But the safety briefings each morning, before we even got our rifles out of our cars, really put me at ease. I am also grateful that we crawled first, then walked, then ran, because it gave me a chance to absorb the info. The history breaks were also great! After I got home Sunday night, I ordered a copy of Paul Revere's Ride to read between shoots. Hopefully someday I'll get to be a rifleman, and I want to be well-rounded!
Hope you come out again. You were both shooting pretty well, and I'll bet you can earn that rifleman patch with some more practice. Most of us had to go to a few events before we did well enough to qualify. You will enjoy the book, it goes into a lot more detail than we had time to cover in the history breaks. The author also has another one called Washington's Crossing about other parts of the revolutionary war, but I haven't had the opportunity to read that one yet. I've heard it is good.
:~ We had a great time. Attached are a few photo's

Thanks guys I really learned alot. I have been around High power rife matches for years but never heard of the chicken wing. It made a big difference for my standing score. Also holding the trigger back is hard to get used to. Want to thank Joe for letting us camp at the range it was pretty cold in the morning(didn't want to get out of the sleeping bag) but that night before the wind came up it was really nice.
We're going to boot camp in Missouri in Oct. looking forward to using what I learned last weekend. Barb
Great! Thanks for sharing pics.....looks like everyone had a good time....
