Another successful Appleseed in El Paso this weekend, this time with Riflemen!! :---
We started off the day with 10 shooters and a variety of equipment from 10/22s, tube fed Marlins, an AR .22 variant, and even a bolt action!
I started the day off with the safety briefing and the First Strike. During the morning, DoubleLL line bossed and kept us firmly on schedule, getting through all the prone shooting, ball and dummy and carding the sights on a start target. RainmanJS led us through most of the instruction for the day.
After a particularly moving 2nd Strike by RainmanJS, we got through sitting and prone transitions, mag changes and NPOA shifts. Some shooters were perserving in true Rifleman spirit through equipment malfunctions and some less than ideal equipment, but the instructors were all able to jury rig slings, fix jams and malfunctions and get the shooters ready for their first AQT.
We shot two AQTs and produced TWO Riflemen on Saturday. Greg (who was in town visiting friends/family!) and David who decided to check out Appleseed on Saturday. Congratulations and huzzahs to our new Riflemen! ..:.. :---
Sunday saw 5 dedicated shooters return to the line, and everyone improved and we had two people knocking on the door with scores in the low 200s (from 170s earlier in the day!). A third Rifleman is definitely to be had but the ugly head of equipment malfunction temporarily prevented her taking those sub-4 MOA groups on squares onto the AQT.
Many thanks to Grizzled One and Jerry Hall for continuing to do a great job of promoting Appleseed in El Paso. Two back to back events with decent turnouts and dedicated shooters is giving us some good momentum in the area. You guys are the best! ^:)^
Some shout outs:
Eric/Margorie - You both will make Rifleman soon! Dry fire! Dry fire! Dry Fire! And hats off to Margorie for persevering through all those equipment issues. Never forget you were shooting some of the best groups on Sunday! Looks like DoubleLL may not be the only Texas Lady to show her husband how it's done! ;)
Jorge/Mariah - You two are inspiring! It is great to see two dedicated people so young working so hard and persevering! You both are a big reason we instructors are devoted to Appleseed. Hope to see you again!
Jody - The Rifleman patch will be yours!
Thanks to RainmanJS for driving all the way from San Angelo to once again help us pull off a great Appleseed.
Everyone stay tuned for the new schedule for El Paso shoots! We are working the schedule and are lining possible shoots for later this year and definitely more in 2011!!!
Andrew,
Looks like you had a great shoot O0 O0 I'm looking forward to working with you and doubleLL at the DFW shoot in October!
Huzzah!
Chuck
We had another great shoot in El Paso last weekend. We filled the line with 10 shooters and produced 2 riflemen by the end of the day on Saturday. We had two shooters whose last score was 205 on Sunday, with just a little bit of dry firing and another Appleseed the patch will be theirs.
I would like to thank the shooters for coming out and listening to our story and instruction. Everyone showed improvement, and I hope to see you again.
My fellow instructors- THANKS for doing such a great job promoting Appleseed. You guys are fantastic!! I love instructing with you all and look forward to another Appleseed in El Paso.
More photos!
Howdy folks,
Jerry Hall here. Wishing to sincerely thank Lauren, Andrew and Jesse for coming out to El Paso to "revive" Appleseed here! John
(Grizzled One) and myself are diligently working toward finding other ranges and more shooters, with potentials already in sight.
This was a good weekend of IIT'n, learned bunches, wants more! Lot's of great shootin and too many rifle malfunctions. Sort of wished we had changed Margie to a loaner for Sunday. Live and learn.
I'm continuing on the Appleseed Trail and I'm sure John and I will continue promoting AS around this area.
Here's hoping to see Y'all again soon and to meeting more Appleseeders along the trail!
Jerry
