Title: Chickasha/Alex Oklahoma
Post by: K98Al on August 10, 2010, 08:23:08 AM
Great shoot, lots of heat! I counted over thirty rifles on the line Saturday morning, most of them were back on Sunday!
In spite of the heat, all the shooters had a good teachable attitude.
Congratulations to all who scored Rifleman, now that you've got the patch, you just need a new hat!

Special thanks to Shelly, for making the RWVA "cool ties" for us.

I hope to see y'all in Afton in September, it's bound to be cooler, and I know we have quite a few in this bunch that were scoring very well, a little more on the six steps and you'll be there.

OKIE Dokie, here are some select pics of why we do this.
I understand one shooter scored Rifleman without using a sling.

Fun in the sun!

We had 37 shooters on Saturday, and all but about 6 or 7 came back for Sunday -- it was a really great Sunday turnout, especially for such a hot weekend.

Temperatures were 102 on Saturday and 95 on Sunday.  The shooters all drank plenty of water and persisted like Riflemen.

We had 6 shooters make Rifleman... earlier reports said 5, but on Sunday afternoon we discovered that one shooter's target had been scored wrong, and he got his patch.

Only one shooter had the persistence and nerves of steel to power through the heat fatigue and made Rifleman on Saturday... congrats Rhonda!  Rhonda is Oldgrunt's lady friend, and there's no doubt she's got skills... I think the steel targets would have to agree, as well.

And yes indeed, one of our shooters shot a healthy Rifleman's score with no sling on Sunday... I'm sorry, I'm terrible with names, but it was the guy with the Walther G-22.  It balanced so nicely that he was able to achieve a pretty good NPOA with no sling.  Once he gets a sling on that thing, watch out!

full distance was lots of fun... the FD line was back to back with the 25m, so we ran them at the same time.  We had 3 steel silhouettes placed at unknown distances... a couple were at roughly 300 yards and one was at roughly 400 yards.  The shooters ranged them and were on target in no time... I think the pictures of the steel pretty much speak for themselves.

As the shooters were pinging the steel, a cry was heard from the end of the line somewhere -- "STAMPEDE!!!!!!"  (actually it may have been "Cease fire, cease fire, cease fire," but I like it better the other way).  Bless their hearts, the cows were so scared by all the noise that they fled in terror to right in the middle of our full distance range, and began to aimlessly mill around.

Another successful shoot by the Oklahoma crew!  See you all in Afton.   :)
