What a fantastic Appleseed Weekend! Direct Action Resource Center once again hosted the Appleseed Project providing a nicely A/C'd Q-Hut (did I hear some people say it was too cold?) and we had the range to ourselves!
Someone forgot to tell the shooters that it was going to be hot. Or they just didn't care :D Pop-ups and tarps went up quickly, and we got down to business on the shaded firing line quickly after the safety briefing. With heat indexes pushing 105-115°F all weekend, the most common patter was:
'Prep mags! If you ain't prep'in you best be drinkin''
Did I mention that 100% of our Saturday Shooters came back on Sunday? And it was going to be hotter than the previous day? These guys came prepared to persist! QuinnCannon returned with his son, and QC backed up his Rifleman score AND took an Orange Hat! O0
Could it get any better? SMLE ran the 25m line for the shooters who wanted to work on AQTs while Ben1775 takes three shooters to the KD range.
I pop back over to the 25m range about 1/2 way through the full distance AQT and find that Arn W had shot a Rifleman score at his first Appleseed! O0
Wow, One new IIT and one new Rifleman. That's pretty cool! I'm pretty satisfied, but wait...
Neil (Dirty on the forums) turns around and shoots his Rifleman score at this, his second Appleseed. AND he takes an Orange Hat!
Holy Moly! A total of two new Rifleman, two new IITs, several 'darn nears' (who took a huge stacks of national flyers to pass out), and just flat out one of the most persist groups I've ever seen.
Arkansas just doubled it's instructor Corp and we've got several more very capable BOTG to help us strike the match in that state!
Way to go!
Details added! Post up your experience and photos!
I'm glad to have been able to participate again....I had a great time with my fifteen year old son, who almost scored Rifleman with a 204. He is even more determined to earn the "patch" next time.
I earned the Rifleman Patch at my first Appleseed in April, with a semi-automatic rifle with iron sights. Since then, I couldn't get Appleseed off of my mind, and decided on the next one, I would use a bolt action CZ 452 Ultra Lux with iron sights. I was very pleased with scoring Rifleman again on the first AQT on Sunday.
When asked if I would consider taking the "Orange Hat", I was very pleased indeed, and gladly accepted. I was also glad that SMLE, and Mr. Anderson presented it to me. I wil strive to become worthy of this new responsibility.
I was very impressed with the dedication and determination I saw in the faces of all of the fine gentlemen that attended and trained in the severe heat and humidity to become Riflemen....men like these, are the salt of the earth!
I am disapointed that I could not make this shoot (deployed). I am very happy that we now have more instructors. I knew Dirty had it in him to make it. If all goes well this will be the last one this year that I will miss. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Just want you to know, Dirty spoke very highly of you!
I was only able to make the Saturday shoot but I had a blast and learned a lot. Erik, Ben and SMLE did an excellent job teaching the skills needed to become a rifleman and also really did a good job of sharing the history of our country with us while we were there. I was very impressed with the entire operation and the way everyone handled themselves. I'm exited to hit the range this weekend and work on the things I was taught.

When I gave Jason(jds667911) his Rifleman patch last year, I was very honored to give my first patch to some one on active duty. I was just as honored to give Dirty his patch. And may I add, Dirty is also active duty.
Fine group of shooters, its was inspiring to see the persistence.

What a great weekend! Like usual I meet a great bunch of people, who all braved the weather to show what they are about. It was quite warm (borderline hot) both days but those who came witnesses great renditions of the first, second, and third strikes. Mister Anderson also did such a good job at explaining IMC that no one even had a question about it.
I was extremely exhausted after all the instruction and shooting on Saturday. The instructor core preached proper shooting positions, proper sling usage, finding NPOA, the 6 steps to taking a shot, and last but defiantly not least safety. When I awoke to thunderstorms on Sunday morning I really just wanted to lay in bed all day long and catch up on sleep. I figured the great Minute Men of the Lexington and Concord Militias would not approved, so I got myself out of bed and went to the DARC.
Sunday started out fast and after a quick review of the information covered the day before, we were off to shoot some redcoats and a couple AQTs. After lunch it was back into shooting AQTs for the most of us, while some went to shoot long range. I was consistently scoring in the 205 range just wishing for 6 more points (No way did I want just 5, I know what happens then!). I finally pulled of a acceptable 218 and new Jason would be pleased with me. When Mister Anderson asked me if I would take the orange had I knew I must since I dragged Jason into Appleseed in the first place so I happily obliged.
I had a great time seeing SMLE and Ben again and meeting Mister Anderson for the first time. Hopefully we can get another Appleseed scheduled in Arkansas soon so we can all meet again.

Did anyone get any pictures of the event that they can share?

Good pictures MisterAnderson, I brought my camera along but didn't have any extra time to take any pics.
I've only made it to the range once since this event but I've pulled my groups a lot closer and this is what they looked like by the end of the day.

It might not be the sub-4MOA that Appleseed is wanting but I'm getting there. Hopefully just a few more trips to the range.

I've still been working on it and here is my latest group with Wolf .223 FMJ 55gr from an AR15 with 16" barrel at 200 yards with iron sights.

The taped one isn't mine, and I did throw a called flier, but all in all I'm happy with it. I even reached out and plinked a steel plate at 300 yards.
