Title: AAR Glen Helen CA July 24/25
Post by: NewMOe on July 26, 2010, 10:32:31 AM
Excellent group of Shooters and We thank all of you for coming out !!
The West End Gun Club is a gem in So Cal, covered Bay, concrete slab and the best range support that I have seen ( major shout out to Bruce the President of the Club or Grand exalted Pubah as we lovingly refer to him).
Saturday was family day, and We thank you all for bringing out the whole crew to spend the day learning our heritage and to improve your Shooting skills. It is always a treat to work with family's willing to take away from the responsibility's of home to learn a new skill set and about how this great country came to be.

We also had new and returning Shooters to WEGC Appleseed on Saturday which is always fun to see folks that want to continue the road to Rifleman (Huzzah to you and thank you !!!)

Sunday was a smaller group (Numbers as soon as I get them NeM0e was on the line as a shooter this A/S so it may take a day) but more returning Shooters and Riflemen !!!!

Returning Rifleman!! good job on 210 + again !!!
Thanks to all that came out We can only hope you enjoyed Your time as much as we enjoyed having you there with us.

Photo are availabe here for now http://picasaweb.google.com/NewMoe5700/20100726# (http://picasaweb.google.com/NewMoe5700/20100726#) on the forums as time allows.

Pictures you want, pictures we got.

22CalGal presents Inches, Minutes, and Clicks to a captive audience.  You can even impress your math teachers with what you learn at Appleseed.

Reenactor par excellence and Red Hat as_minuteman does Third Strike, and answers many questions from the group.  We were all impressed with how much history our 12-year-old Appleseeders already knew, and how much interest they showed.  Definitely a great bunch of young Americans!

Freeman explains how to understand whatever language it is that targets speak.  Being multilingual is a beautiful thing.

Ball and dummy drills on the line.  In front here, first-time Appleseeders Doug and Allison were locked in a tight race all weekend.  It'll be a real treat to see which one makes Rifleman first!

IIT AQT_Monster came out on her birthday to keep her Rifleman skills current, instruct positions, call the line, and tell us all some history.  Can you beat that?

On the line for Stage 4 of the AQT.  Those itty-bitty targets don't stand a chance.

A misty moment as intrepid shoot boss LayloPro has the honor of red-hatting modest NewMOe.  Congratulations!

THANK YOU to all who came out to shoot with us, especially the families and new shooters -- that really made it special for us.  Hope to see you again.  If you had a good time, tell your friends, bring 'em along next time.

This weekend was another great Appleseed. The students, as usual, were great. Laylo often remarks that Appleseed brings out the cream of the crop. This weekend was no exception. I was particulary impressed by the tenacity of a couple students who started off having a tough time hitting the paper and ended their first day with some decent groups. Making Rifleman really isn't far away for anyone that was on the line this weekend.

Congratulations again to NewMoe and Rocket Man for getting their red hats. Both have proven to be exceptional instructors and people I am proud to count among my friends.

"Where am I?  Boy, do I hurt!  Doggone mule!   ... wait, you say the Redcoats shot me???  What???"

Takes a lot of effort to channel the spirit of a 310-year-old patriot!   :D

First off I am emotionally scared after being forced to shoot at Oreo's, thank God they were not double stuff and I had my eyes shut or I may have lost it :D.

Secondly I would like to thank all of these fine patriotic Americans for allowing me 2 days of there time to teach me marksmanship. The amount of knowledge delivered by all of you gals and guys wearing pink, orange and red hats was well worth the price of admission! Although I did not score rifleman it was not for a lack of instruction. I will be practicing what I have learned and give it another go until I shoot rifleman so your stuck with me until then. Thanks again for the great weekend.

Heh!! BHSam, (BTW, -Great- moniker!!) O0 The Rifleman patch is, as I said on Sunday, just a step in the path of becoming a Rifleman.....
Just about anyone can become a rifle owner, but it takes special folks to become Riflemen........And to be able to consistently kill OREO's with their NPOA set, and their "eyes resting"...... :~ ;)

On the AAR side, we had some truly impressive folks come out to the extremely pleasant range there @ West End Gun Club.....Saturday, we had 12 folks, and Sunday we had 13 shooters....
On the accomplishment side, we had Jackie finally overcome all her internal obstacles to presenting IMC & Talking Targets in an -extremely- coherent fashion!! Great training!! Even I understood it all!!...... O0 O0 O0
A.Q-T Monster did her first DOM presentation, & called the line.......kinda funny to hear the difference vocal pitch makes in overcoming earplugs & muffs, but she did as well as any "seasoned" hand at them!! She also turned in her IIT1 PC!! O0  O0
NewMOe has been around the trail with us for some time, and without having actually done the IBC route, has learned the whole RedHat structure the "old school way"....on the trail.......and done it very well! And he will make a stellar SB as well, in the near future...... O0 O0 O0
RocketMan is another who was added from the inferno of Corona.....he has been thru all the training, and being the person he is, has quietly absorbed all the info, and is able to put it forth to our groups in precise, concise, and powerful speaking.....he truly has the passion for the program as well as any other I've seen..... O0 O0 O0
CSHR did one of the most entertaining & unique Samuel Whittimore presentations I've seen, spur of the moment, but very effective, and well worth working on for future usage...... :cool2: O0 @)
Freeman did all his IIT3 requirements in such a calm fashion, everyone thought he had been doing them for years.....the model of "unflappable"..... 8) :) ;D @@)
Demnogis was only able to be there for Saturday, but called the line well, had some very interesting thoughts about how the COF would run better, and was able to do some demo's as well!! Stellar performance!! O0 8) O0

BTW, did I mention how blessed I am with the group that has formed up out here in SoCal?? O0  @) :))

Also, a huge shout out to a Father/Son combo who showed up on Sunday, after a shoot last month in Corona.....they have the AQT "bug" now, and are determined to overcome all manner of "issues" to hit their RM score....Stewart (Dad) has been very generous in donating a couple of 10x10 E-Z-ups for our use out here in the "sun drenched paradise" we call the Inland Empire......Thanks again, guys!! If you show up in August @ Corona, you will indeed find us "making good use of them" in regards to those EZ Ups ....... @) O0 ;)

Lessee, the weather was pure co-operation, there are two giant shade trees for our "training area", there was a gentle breeze blowing, and it was just a really great weekend for an AS.....our group truly enjoyed being able to work in a more "intimate group environment" setting than the "usual 40+ folks, and -all- the participants were able to benefit from a whole lotta personal attention & instruction......while the only RM scores were presented by previous RM, -all- saw improvement!!

We weren't rushed on this range, which makes a huge difference, and all seemed to have had a good time.....
come on & chime in when you're ready, we are looking forward to seeing you folks again soon!!

Soooo, how was your weekend??

The shoot at West End was fabulous on SO many levels: great shooters, incredible weather, a bird's nest with babies peaking out as we taught, laughter, learning, Krispy Kremes, wonderful attitudes from the shooters, cookies as targets, and on and on.  It was a personal victory for me to FINALLY get IMC and present it.  My prayers were answered.  I asked God that morning, "How's your math today?" and we did it.  I am grateful to ALL who helped me.

Seeing Rocket Man and Newmoe get their new chapeaus was fantastic.  It doesn't get much better than that.

See you Saturday...did I hear someone has 25 cans of shaving cream?????

AQT,
You know, every time I do a AAR when I'm tired (cuz it's -realllllly- late when I get done typing, I just -know- I'm forgetting something....and you are correct....I spaced on mentioning that you showed up for your birthday celebration @ our AS, just "cuz"....... @) :))

But you -did- get to shoot, too.......and instruct a bit.....and even start getting your feet wet doing some history.......and -that's- a change from last year....... :o ::) O0

BTW, did you happen to notice your Dad standing in the back a bit, just being so proud of his girl?? ^:)^ @) ..:.. ;)

Nothing wrong with -that-, either.....

You're doing great Maddy, keep up the good work, and keep reading those history books..... @) O0 8)

I know I'm a week late on this thread... I don't care!

Glen Helen's West End Gun Club continues to invite AS events.  Stellar turnout Saturday with a large group of first-time new shooters. The COF had to be modified "on the fly" to accommodate for time constraints, but luckily we had plenty of sunlight and persistent shooters who (even after a sigh) said OK to two AQTs before the last redcoat of the day. I couldn't make Sunday, but CONGRATS DAD! CONGRATS ROCKETMAN! And a big shout out to 22CalGal on her IMC presentation, which ROCKED!

Looking forward to the next AS up thar.
