All,
www.bvac-ammo.com.
I was emailed about the soon to be up and running BVAC ammunition company in Florence MT. (Bitterroot Valley Ammo and Components) The man in the topic heading is the individual of interest. He is starting this new ammo company. He has worked for the Hunt Shack in MT for 20 years and is starting his own business. The reason I am posting this is I've already contacted him asking for prices on 7.62 ball and 5.56 ball prices and he responded with the following about prices for New 7.62.
"Eric, we both have the same thoughts, I am set up and running the 7.62 and the 5.56 ball now. Will have both ready to sell the first of the year. We should get a group buy going shortly afterwards. Price is going to be around $450.00 per 1000 on the 7.62 New and $280.00 per 1000 on the 5.56 reload and $330.00 for the new.
Thanks Darren"
With the current rates of new 7.62, this is just below average pricing. With regards to NATO non-reloadable ball ammo this is about .15 cents below average. (when you include shipping is the cost)
I had received a email from him this: 'heads up' email I received from an individual who runs his orders.
"Hey, this is Misty, I just wanted to keep in touch with you and let you know that Darren Newsom is no longer with The Hunting Shack. After 20 years of working with them he has decided that it is time to open up his own company. Along with him came a loyal team of highly trained employees. Due to the high demand for ammunition and it's components, Darren felt that by opening his own company it would greatly help the industry. As of January the 2nd, Bitterroot Valley Ammunition and Components (BVAC) will officially be open, we will have a list of products and prices for you by that date. If you have any other questions contact Darren Newsom or myself at this e-mail address. We currently have a business website that is being worked on at this time, you can view it at www.bvac-ammo.com. You can also reach us at our new number, (406)273-9140 or 273-9150. Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon.

This is good pricing. American made. Reloadable. Can't beat that, unless you already reload.
Thought I would give a heads up to those who are in the market to buy, or who is in the market to bulk purchase or group buy.

response from Darren about more offerings.
The 5.56 will be in both a 55gr. and the 62gr. (M855) bullet, cost for the 62gr. is about $40.00 per 1000 more. I will also do the 75 gr. tactical and the 77gr. match both in the 5.56. The 7.62 will have two version 147gr. ball and 168gr. HPBT Match. thanks Darren
Eric, along with me came my crew of 21 personal, all trained and very loyal and knowledgeable about loading. HSM will have to train all new loaders and they will have a learning curve for the new employees. I will be going strong from the start and have the same loaders as I have had at HSM for the last 15 years. I can send samples out to a few members to test for free also. Thanks Darren
This goes into the good news file.
Very nice. Will the 5.56 be available in 62, or maybe even 77grain?
I have asked the same questions myself. I have emailed him back asking for a spec sheet containing grain and bullet offerings for both 7.62 and 5.56. I would rather have the 62 grain myself. As soon as he responds, I will post.
Ax
I might suggest,,,occasional runs of mil-spec 30/06 would endear Mr. Newsome to many.
bumped this thread to show updated first post in thread.
Thanks Ax. Will have to check this out next year.
just to be straight on this, I'm getting the following
-Darren worked for Hunt Shak for 20 years (apparently even had some management position)
-he loved it so much he took 21 of thier employees and started his own company in direct competition with them
-because of this "loyalty" his former employer who trusted him with all the information to run thier business now is in dire straits
-former Hunt Shak customers magically get emails from this new company with whom they have never done business before.
questions:
-where did they get this customer information?
-where do they get thier load information and industry contacts?
-Does taking any of that information to the detriment of the former employer, constitute a criminal or civilly liable act (or both)
-even if this is not a criminal act, what does this say about the business practices and morality of those running that show?
-do you want to do business with this type of company just to save 3 cents a round?
GEE, where do i sign up for this buy??

p.s. Ther are NO EASY SOLUTIONS to the ammo problem. buy it when you can afford it and make it worthwhile when you shoot it.
Apparently there was something wrong or 21 hands wouldn't follow him.
God bless America - you don't have to work where you don't want to.
There's two sides to every story and we don't know either of them - only rumors that have been posted here.
Paul Shanks, Newbie,
thanks for you imput. It will be noted. Let us not jump to conclusions. Since we don't work, live near or know personally any of the employees or the situation-- let us not pretend we know the story. Imply what you will, I am going on the information I was given. If you were a employee of HSM, I would take your post seriously, since you just pretending to be of stellar performance in your accounts in life, well... 'nuff said.
Quotep.s. Ther are NO EASY SOLUTIONS to the ammo problem. buy it when you can afford it and make
it worthwhile when you shoot it.
What are you talking about? This is completely irrelevant to the post.
your post was not warranted. Nor is implication of something not needed.
All, I am simply just providing information about a source of ammunition with good prices. This man seems to understand the needs of the Gun Culture. .308 and .223. Take advantage of this if you will.

AX238, know it all,
first allow me to remind you that you have no idea who I am, my past or present, or what my level of expereince in this or ANY field is. while i may not post on this board often let me assure you that i am FAR from a "newbie" regardless of what some post count driven moniker may say.
I merely asked questions based upon the FACTS AS YOU HAVE PRESENTED THEM.
It seems to me that a know it all such as yourself would be well served to do a little more research on the questions I raised, as it would be your reputation and butt on the line.
I challenge you to answer my questions instead of making a feeble attempt at denigrating the person asking them.
AS to the easy answer ammo solution, let me be the first to offer you a sweet deal on ammo of the loading and caliber of your choice. I will sell you this special ammo for HALF of what darren newsome will!! just send me your money first and I'll get you the ammo in 2 weeks. I'll even throw in free shipping to the first 100 folks who send thier money!! just dont ask any questions about my business practices.
is that an easy enough answer to your ammo problem?
Paul
I don't know all the facts either, and there are two sides to all stories (or more).
That said, I've heard a thing or two from reliable sources close enough to the action to advise all to tread cautiously if going forward. Do some questioning, do some research, be able to objectively defend your positions.
Caveat Emptor
FWIW, all would be in less of a hissy fit if they'd had heeded the infamous words:
"buy it cheap, and stack it deep"
back when such was plentiful and cheap. I could triple my money on the SA surplus I bought in 2006, but I'd rather turn that money into skill, regularly and steadily.
For now, do buy what you can and when, but don't expect great deals and don't jump at ones that appear to be too good to be true (remember the horrid Indian surplus???).
Back to your regular programming.
Atlas Shrug, newbie from Project Appleseed, circa 2005
OK, ax and Paul - let's cool it down.
Both of you are on this site because you believe in Appleseed (I hope).
Let's not be trading "know-it-alls" at each other, as not productive of anything (and don't I know it!).
ax was passing on some info he received.
Paul, you've raised some questions.
When guys get frantic about ammo, snapping up everything in sight (espec if it's a penny or two less...), then a word of caution about who you may be dealing with may be in order.
atlas is right. When ammo is cheap, too few of us "bought it cheap and stacked it deep", to our current dismay.
Let's hope ammo may get cheap again (it's possible!), and be ready not to make the same mistake again...
In the meantime, let's get the focus back on Appleseed.
Save our country, and we'll have cheap ammo again! (That's my prediction, and I'm sticking by it. ;D)
well said Fred. Lesson learned. No more innocent posts about good ammo buys. I'll keep it to myself and 'stack it deep'. Plus, I really don't have time for hair pullers.
paul shanks...this is all my fault. I have responded in a way out of character for myself. You are right, I am wrong. Please forgive any implications, wording and response.
back to planting.....
Ax
I too could have framed my concerns differently i'm sure. It is only my concern that before we commit 50 people of good character to give up thier money that we proceeed with caution. personally I think the 308 at wideners is fine stuff and runs about 47cent per round with no waiting. a simple call to them might even get us a better price than that!!
I work locally with guys on shooting stuff even tho I am not a formal appleseed instructor and the question of cheap ammo comes up often. if we can work some deal out I'd be down with that.
It sounds like this group buy for ammo is not a new idea. maybe we could check with folks who have done it before and see how did that worked out.
