Title: Banning the American Flag in School?
Post by: bob 210 on July 02, 2010, 03:23:27 PM
Fox News is running a poll about whether the flag should be banned in schools. If you agree with me that the flag should be taken down for no one, go vote.

I could raise a hand to say this is yet another distracting iceberg. Do we really accomplish anything by 'winning' this vote?

In fact, let me play devil's advocate here. If we let the 'other side' win - and the poll shows Americans want to ban the flag in public schools, would this tend to reassure Americans - or wake'em up to get off the couch?

Which is the greater 'wake up' to our fellow Americans?

Let's see: we all labor to make sure the vote goes the 'right way', and Fox viewers, seeing the vote/poll turn out the right way, go back to sleep.

Or, we get back to Appleseeding, the other side wins, and Mr. and Mrs. America turns on the nightly news and hears (and sees) a poll shows most Americans want to ban the flag in public schools.

I don't know how they will react - but I believe it will motivate a few to wake up.

A few more, who otherwise wouldn't wake up.

In my book, that would be a plus...

And we don't have to do anything, to make it happen...

IMO I am disgusted that this is even a topic of discussion. Seeing that we have gotten to this point in our lives that we would even consider banning the American Flag from schools motivates me even more to help wake up my fellow Americans. I hope there are people out there who feel the same way I do.

Interesting...55% say no, 35% said yes.

Along the same lines

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/02/fox-news-poll-founding-fathers-happy/?test=latestnews

78% of pollees think our founding fathers would not be happy with the state of the nation today.  Time to get them to a 'seed!

Absolutely, Trish.  Truly a sad commentary on today's America.
Why are we even discussing this?
Ah, but, one more motivator.  Bail, baby, Bail.

I agree with FRED. I ask people where they first heard about Appleseed and follow up with "What got you to come out to this event?" Some say to learn to shoot, and I got this a lotat my first 3 AS's. Lately, at my last two events, I have noticed more are now saying they are fearful of the direction the Nation is taking. Some are already TeaParty and/or Oath Keeper members, but feel they can and should do more to help.  Three months ago, when passing out flyers at different businesses, the employees did not know anything about the program. Now when I walk in, I'm greated with,"Hey! Your with Appleseed! Man ya'll are doing a great job! We are selling lots of 22 rifles, mags and 22 ammo to people who are practicing for the next shoot!" This is just the beginning for my area.

I'm also with Fred the helpful on this piint, as I always use that concept when I reply to people's daily bombardment with talk of icebergs. For some reason, people I know seem to think of me as "political"?????

It goes like this: "Hey Trey, did you see xyz in the news? Don't you think that it's just terrible? How can they / it / he do that!??"  I reply: "I hope it happens - that would be great, especially if they / it / he goes even further with it".

To which I receive looks of utter astonishment. "What! How can that be good?".

I say: "Well, maybe that will get Americans motivated to stop whining and actually do something about it. You see, xyz is a gift from God to Liberty. It's the best thing that has happened in my lifetime, at least in terms of awakening Americans and getting them involved in the system handed down to us. For too long we have been apathetic and lazy, thinking Liberty was someone else's problem. Talk is useless - only actions matter - only deeds count. Our elected employees love when we whine, but fail to vote to replace them with better people".

Most folks just figure I am crazy and maybe they are right, but I know it gits some of them thinking - maybe there is a bright side to all of this and maybe Trey is right - maybe I should attend that rally and write my reps and get involved. Maybe I should attend an Appleseed event as he is always buggin to do.  ^-^

Humans are an odd bunch. We must visit the presipce before we will act to save ourselves. Like the large man who's doctor and friends have begged for years to eat better and excersize. Until he has his second heart attack - he will not make a change, but when he stares Mr. Death right in the eye - then he works furiuosly to save himself.

It's not logical nor is it reasonable, but it is human nature, so when you hear of some cockamamie news story floating about - just smile and move on, secure in the knowledge that it is a gift to Liberty. Americans, at least the vast majority of them, need these things in order to motivate them to action.

This weekend is a perfect time to accept this truth. Remember what the Framers said in the DOI. "all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed"

It's a sad reality that we humans must suffer first - only then will we take the effort to make a change. I hope they ban the American flag from all public places. Do it now - right away. Watch what happens. It is only the slow erosion of Liberty that is successful. Turn up the heat, just a little too fast, and the frog gets wise. Then, there is hell to pay.  :cool2:

Now I don't expect everyone to pray for "rain" as I do, but I do hope that you give it some thought. You see, I descend from a long line of radicals - crazy outspoken and abrasive men who we so arrogant as to believe the the "great unwashed" could make their own destiny and create a form of government that would allow the people to govern themselves, unfettered by the hereditary rule of kings and tyrants. Crazy huh?

...whether the flag should be banned in schools.

Huh???  Was there another Revolution?  Or is Fox News trying to start one?

To Fred's devil's advocate question, if the 'majority' succeeds in banning the American Flag, I fear we may be lost.  I think that the thread I asked you about has a better defined reason to start.

Another take on these sorts of issues:

Remember the movie, where a young man was very upset about a tragic loss and his mentor told him to "Turn it into something else - just let it turn".

There is nothing we can do about these issues. They are icebergs - some are mythical monsters and some are very real, but all share one thing in common. They are beyond our direct control. To rail agin that over which we have no control is futile and also most fatiguing. Tilting at windmills may seem very noble and the Lord knows, I have tilted at more than a few in my time -what decent man hasn't?

But tilting at windmills will not save our country - Appleseeds just might. Sure, it's a long shot, with little hope of success and no guarantees. To take on a Goliath like apathy and lethargy in the hearts and minds of our fellow Americans is the "Mount Everest" of undertakings for sure, but at least it is definable and measurable. It at least affords our weary souls a positive outlet for our well founded angst.

To each their own. Who am I to say which is right for another? All I can be certain of is what works for me. I have found over time that railing agin things I cannot control wears me down and makes me very unhappy. Appleseeding soothes my soul, offering me a sense of accomplishment and actually does something for my country.  ^:)^

I chose to let it turn into something else - Appleseeds.

Amen!

I was just curious about what started the flag controversy, and why.  Mostly my concern was that there had been some kind of revolution while I was sleeping one night.  I hate it when that happens :) ;) :D ;D

It was initially about a couple kids who wore American flag Tshirts to school to protest Cinco De Mayo and there was some fighting. So, of course the answer offered was to ban American flag symbols on Cinco De Mayo.

PC will be the death of Liberty, unless of course, it reaches such an extreme as to cause ordinarily silent and passive Americans to wake up and get involved in great numbers.  ^-^

Now, I must git back to bailing!

I think we need to ban public schools.  Give me my tax $$ back and I'll put it to better use.
