This event surely is one to remember. As I remember in our Saturday night discussion the enthusiasm level was RIDONKULOUS! Special thanks to Athena and Alex (8 & 9 brother and sister) for keeping our shooters highly motivated despite our weird seasonal changes throughout the day. We did get a few spectators Saturday afternoon but they quickly dispersed. Grats to CSHR and asminuteman on their red hats. No orange hats this round but I have a feeling that 1 may come back to the next AS and look for an orange hat. The skill increase could be seen easily as we progressed on Sunday. Amazing! Two riflemen on day 1, one of which (Joel) it was only his second time with a firearm! That's what AS is all about.

Thanks to ALL THE INSTRUCTORS & SUPPORT STAFF !!!  One of the best Appleseeds I've been to (my fourth).  I finally got out of the kitchen and made Rifleman on Saturday (my target says 214, not 213, but I would have taken a 210).  But I cheated!!!  Before you try to turn me in to the authorities,  I finally used a SCOPE, not even mounted in the proper position because it was last minute, but it worked.  PERSISTENCE,  PERSISTENCE,  STUBBORNESS,  PERSISTENCE.
More great news, my home range, Escondido Fish & Game, will be hosting its second Appleseed on August 14-15.  If you can get to northern San Diego County, we'd love to have you.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,steve

What a wonderful weekend!  West End is my home gun club, and to have the honor of an Appleseed shoot there is a blessing.  Club president Bruce Strang was there both days, helped out a lot and was an important part of the shoot.

The shooters were wonderful and family was the name of the game.  They had great attitudes and persistence, and it was FUN!  Even the hail storms were a delight.

Congrats to the new Riflemen and Red Hats AS Minuteman and CSHR.

Each time I attend a Project Appleseed shoot, I feel better about America and where she's headed.

I'll see the girls at West End next month for the all female shoot!

OMG asminuteman a red hat!?!?!!?! congrats dude... You look good in red. and I agree CSHR does do a great "Samuel Whittimore".   I've seen him once and missed that lat time, i was disappointed i had to use the port-a-potty when he did his story. Congrats to the both of you.
I had a great time on sunday i learned alot about being an IIT, I showed 22calgal most of the day. on sunday i had found my twin that was 5 years younger then me...i know fell bad for the instructors that had to put up with me for 6 AS always asking if we could shoot more  :) All the kids were a blast they were just so fun to be around... cant wait for the ALL Female AS  ^:)^

Three shoots ago I was 'standing in the wings' waiting for Rocket Man to finish his HWyman. I was running my SWhittemore through my head one last time.......when it hit me ..I was sunburned, water didn't quench my thirst, I was tired of getting up and down on the line in the sun, I had dust all over me, I was still excited at the persistence of so many shooters and it was just about time that I tell them about me?????Samuel??????too many hours of reading about his life and memorizing all those facts.........heck, weren't we nearly the same??????a couple of crusty old men, not used to being pushed around, family oriented, close friends, honor, integrity, strong work ethic, knew 'right from wrong' no matter how they dressed it up??????????I had the bayonet and lead ball props in my hands........ how do I relay history and heritage and life changing choices any better than by.........."Hello, I'm Samuel Whittemore and I'm 76 years old........." Ahhhh well if LLP doesn't like it I know he'll tell me about it later ..............................I am happy to hear that it has been well received, several times now, and I will continue to present it that way.

I was the only car in sight as I drove into the shoot site Sunday morning amidst the deluge of cold rain mixed with pounding hail, dark gray-black skies, fresh running water in the depressions and the ominous feelings that I was probably the only one doing so. No obvious fresh tire tracks. Oh well. Turn the car heater up, miss the larger rocks and deeper depressions, watch the wind blowing clouds, be really surprised that the the smaller parking lot was almost full already.......I was late!!!!! The doughnuts were under the shed roof that covered the concrete and several shooting mats were already laid out ....Really late!!!  ..:..

The harried scramble to put up targets and backers that weren't soaked mixed well with LayLo's opening words. The 3 gun match next to us was canceled so we didn't have to compete with the noise for a second day. The concrete space was still not deep enough to keep from having to step over feet as we moved among the shooters. The clouds parted and the sun shown down lending warmth to aid their attentiveness and concentration. Listening to the IIT's teachings and encouragements showed latter that day with 'rifleman' scores and 'redcoat' riddled targets.

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaad, daaaaaaaad, come here!!!!!!!!!! Hurry!!!!!!!!!!!"   I hoped I wasn't the only one with an ear to ear grin from Alex's excitement. I wasn't. Sibling rivalry is still alive and practiced. Athena/Annie is as competent a shooter for her age as I've had the privilege to assist. Both of them, shooting 'designated sniper' had highs of 197  ^:)^
Wesley showed his composure keeping the first safety rule in tact as he picked up hot brass burns on his neck.  O0
Luke said very few words all day while shooting a 223 score, great job  ^:)^

Steve?yes? Thanks for the pictures.

You saw the listing above of IIT's, none better to work with.

AS Minuteman.........how apropos a moniker. Thank you for teaching me. Congratulations too. Green one next  **)

My apologies to those of you who aren't in the same pensive moment as I.

And yes....Pollywogs do stare.

Hey gang,

I'm finally back in town...

Great to see everyone again.  Ken, it's going to be a while before I'm used to that red hat, but you've sure earned it.  Mike, yours looks more "natural" for some reason.  Wear them in patriotic spirits!

Did we have some great shooters, or what?  Our youth were absolutely outstanding!  Alex and Athena printed consistently excellent groups, and if they keep up that sibling rivalry, there's no limit.  Wes, what can I say?  Have you ever seen a more squared-away young man?  Ever??  He might one day be our youngest Orange Hat!

And then there's Luke.  Full-blown Rifleman.  'Nuff said.

All of our shooters were great.  Even with new rifles, loaned rifles, the occasional malf, and (my favorite) the .30 caliber hailstorm!!, I didn't hear any whining at all.  Lots of improvement everywhere I looked.  Our group would have put a real hurting on those Regular officers, that's for darn sure.   :---

Also big congratulations to Steve and Jerry -- I knew you guys would make it.  There's no shame in going to optics, by the way.  Optics requires a whole new skill set, or else they cause as many problems as they solve!!  Good job hanging in there and persisting.

So...  When's the next one?   ..:..
